I recently installed a zx dist. on my 72 240. I am using the gm modual method. My tach. now only goes up to 3000 rpm. I couldnt find anything related to this problem in the archives. Has this happend to anyone else? What may be causing this problem? Thanks, Dan BTW- some of you may remember me trying to figure out why my dual webbers kept fouling out plugs, it wasnt the carbs, it was the spark-thank god, plugs were getting expencive!-

I agree with bambikiller. I replaced my rear struts without ever removing the a arm, just tilted the strut out past the fender well and presto. Did both sides in about 45 min. Don't let a mechanic scam you, its not that much work.Besides you will enjoy your ride much more if youdo it yourself imo.

yeah, i was thinking it was running too rich as well but i never thought to check the spark. i've tried running the carbs at just about every ratio possable and still no luck, makes sense that it would be a weak spark. btw its fuel thats fouling the plugs. i kind of thought that timing may be an issue as well, if the spark was not ingnited at the proper time couldn't this lead to fould plugs. just curious if its possable. anyhow, thanks for your help. onward to ingnition inspection.

Finally after many hours of suspension and engine work, I took my 72 z on its mayden voyage. Don't think I've been so happy since I beleived in Santa! Only problem is that I'm completley fouling out all my plugs after about 20 miles or so. The culprits I know to check are my vac. advance, timing, and air fuel mix. Am I missing anything? I strongly feel that the problem is in the carbs. Is there a way to tell when my air to fuel mix is set correctly without the use of a special tool such as a a colortune? If not, what tool do yall reccomend for checking the mix? I've backed out the air/fule screws 5 turns and still no cure. Maybe I'm running to lean? BTW the carbs are webber dgv's, plugs are ngk's set at .40. Any help is very appreciated, these plugs are getting a bit expencive! Dan

I'm having some problems installing my new end links. Have repalced all other poly bushings with no problem, but when i try to install the end links I can't get enough threads to start the bolt at the bottom of the link. Yes I've jacked up the control arm to line it all up but still no luck. Any advice? Thanks, Dan

Does anybody know how to find out how many z's are still on the road (by the year)? In the US the DMV should have the numbers by registration but I don't know how to go about getting this info. Thanks, Dan

Well my name is Dan; I'm 29 and have been a stonemason for 8 years. Now I have had around 6 z's in my past but never had a second car to drive while I truly devote myself to my new baby, a 1972 240. Well this time I'm doing it rite and I have to tell you it feels great! I live in the mountains, so its great driving the country roads; the only problem is that the driving season is kind of short. Those parts are making me drool! I find it hard to believe we can't get them locally. I'm sure shipping charges from overseas would be too much to justify the purchasing from them. Does anyone out there know if some of these parts are available locally (especially those beautiful coil over conversions). I've seen a tokico setup on ebay, but the ones offered at the overseas site seem like they may be better quality. And what about those headers! My z fever just jumped up a few degrees! My 72z has a later model engine and I'm not quite sure how to find out just what year the engine is. I know of the numbers stamped on the passanger side of the block just under the head and I've heard there are also numbers near the engine mount on the driver's side. Does anyone out there have a link to a site that will help me figure out what year my engine is? BTW, it has a N42 head if that narrows it down enough to ID the year. It’s finally warm enough to get some work done, but I could use some guidance first. •First, when switching from a points type distributor I was wondering what the better option is, trigger type (petronics) or late mode swap. If a swap to later model unit is the way to go, does anyone have one they would like to part with? •Second, aside from the assorted bushings and tools, what other parts should I have on hand when changing springs and struts? •Third, anyone know of a good bushing source other than MSA or VBL?
