are these the seat spacers? when I removed the seats one spacer was on top of the seat bracket, the other was screwed under the nut and washer. can I put both spacers above the seat bracket to raise the seat? is that what it's for?
  2. I got it in my watch list. looks like a mighty fine specimen. curious what it'll sell for. i'm guessing between 15k to 20k

here you have to have insurance to get plates also. most companies let you pay monthly. i'm thinkin after they get their slip proving they have insuance they then cancel. can the cops tell if a driver has coverage or not??

i don't know if anyone has seen this farmers insurance ad, but in it they claim 1 in 7 drivers don't have insurance.(15%) this doesn't surprise me but i'm thinking the number is higher here in canada. beginers premiums are $3000 per year and higher depending on the type of vehicle and area. glad i got my license in 1970, lot less hassel and cost was affordable. today kids have a very difficult time.

anybody see the abc world news tonite report on carfax? what a scam. it isn't worth the paper it's written on. 5th estate(a canadian investigative reporting program) exposed the scam years ago. carfax relies on insurance companies and police reports for their information. let me tell you, the police don't do any more paper work then they have to. as for insurance companies, what's in it for them? carfax actually does more harm than good. it contributes to buyer mistakes. there is also a segment on 20/20 tonite. it's good to be informed.
  8. maybe i'll try that. the rear bolt is kinda in a cubby hole and there's little room even to get the nut threaded.
  9. very frustrating getting the washer, lock washer and nut onto the rear bolt. awkward hand postion and not easy to get at. must have dropped the washers and nut 50 times. :tapemouth very difficult to manage with one hand. almost resorted to using grease to hold the washers in place but persevered and finally got the nut threaded. one down. the other one was easier, only dropped the washers and nut 40 times. next, the driver seat.
  10. are there any other sponsors besides MSA that gives a discount to members?

it's a 72 build date 10/71. straps, no springs under seat. i think it's for the emergency brake. could it be a speaker wire or does that run under the rocker?
  12. zhead240 posted a post in a topic in Interior
can anyone tell what this wire is for? it's located under the passenger seat.
  13. the rug part not a worry to me. i have a no cracked dash and a rug cover for preventative measures. for this zed you would ask for condition of the dash before hand.
  14. says original paint but the tail lite panels look to have been painted black.

les was one of the vendors i talked to. does it matter if it's a driver or passenger seat?

i'm in the process of repairing my seat from a 72 240z. i was going to replace the foam and covers but when i got them out and had a closer look i changed my mind. the basic problem was the strapping had failed. the passenger seat looks new with no rips or wear. my friend who is in the classic car restoration business has already got it repaired. the problem now is the driver seat. it's ripped on the seat cushon and torn by the leaver for the back release. i called some seat cover vendors but they won't split up a set. can't really blame them. i'm hoping a fellow member might have a spare driver cover to sell. even just the bottom will help. is there a difference between the passenger and driver covers? thanks in advance. enjoy the ride.
  18. totaly caught off guard by this news. i had no knowledge of his ill health. makes one think of your own mortality as i'm 3 years older. he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. my condolence to his family and the z community. RIP Enrique

looks like the only way to remove the sliders is to come at it from the top because of the carriage type bolts. that means removing the seat cover and foam. am i right. i was hoping to have to do this.
  20. i see there is a plastic chrome plating service on ebay. (datsun parts) it has a starting bid of $1000. now just how would this work out for an auction? how many pieces would that involve. plus shipping at that price? very odd auction.

first off i know this thread is 4 years old. i'm going to try a diy repair similar to what arne did. i would like to know what kind of rivets he used. looks like regular pop rivet with grommets and setters. is the strapping stretched tight and how do you do it, with a special tool? tia
  22. you may be right but then the front mount would not lineup. ps- i'm short legged and i still have to slide the seat back a bit.
  23. i noticed there are two holes in the rear seat mount. why is that when only the back hole is used?
  24. i just checked my 72 belts ( no retractors) . if you flip the male connector over then u can see the slot for the shoulder belt. it's on the inside of the male part.
  25. is there a slot on the male connection for the shoulder belt? i don't see one in the pics.
