the "datsun" emblem on the rear hatch is the one they use for the 260 and 280z's because it has smooth rounded curves. the original datsun emblem for the 240z has sharper edges

i did something like that a while ago. listen to this.. when i had my car painted about a year and a half ago, i wanted to buy brand new emblems and i did which ended up costing like 215 or something dollars. i re-painted the old quarter emblems and "280z" hatch emblem. the looked great so i sold them all on ebay and ended up getting more money than i paid for the brand new ones. the guy i sold the fender emblems to was new to ebay and everyone of his feedbacks was an item for his car. he even bought his car on ebay which i remember was his first feedback. anyways a few months later i went to a z show in rio vista and i recognized his yellow 280 from the pictures on ebay. i even asked the guy where he got the emblems from and he told me ebay. it was so crazy being re-united with my old emblems. i started thinking about the good ol days when i polished them up and sprayed them with armour-all to make them nice and shiny for their photo-shoot. oh and of course i remember supergluing the pins back on after they broke while washing them. i imagine its the same feeling that a mother has after being re-united with her long lost child.
  7. do you mean it suits the 280zx nice or both the 280 and 280zx? i agree i dont like it on 70-78 but it looks on 79+

thanks carls and everyone. by the way, is there anyone who has actually gotten their dash restored. would it be cheaper if i were to restore it today before the cracking gets really bad or does it not matter? and what about results. will it really look just as good as the original or would i end up with that feeling like its never gonna be the same?

wow carl i just read more in a couple minutes from your post then i did in all 4 years of high school. thanks for that but i dont know if your 100% correct because i have black hair and so did my uncle so.. no actually you could be very right because this car was stored in his garage for i dont know how many years in orange, ca. i dont know about the difference in temperature but it certainly was exposed to more heat since ive been driving it nearly everyday. i did consider a dash cap even before i owned the car because i wanted to prevent any cracks from emerging in the future but i ddint want to install anything permanent. can't you also tell that its a cap by looking at the gauges? at least one car i saw looked real tacky because it had uneven gaps where the gauges were. maybe he just didnt install it right i dont know.

i think this is all my fault. when this car was handed down to me by my uncle about a year and a half ago, i started using armor-all. it made the dash look so good so i never thought it could hurt it. then i took it to get the wheels aligned and the guy there warned me that using this stuff wil cause it to crack. so i quit using it and a few weeks later i noticed my first crack. i geuss i learned the hard way (or the expensive way) thanks for all the links guys. i remember thinking about a year ago how i wanted to sell this dash and get a new one before it got worse but i want to try and keep my car as original as possible so i will look into those restoration threads that ive seen pop up.

i hate old cars!! actually thats exactly what i used to do when i parked my car at school. i would put my simpsons sun shade over my windsheild and cover my dash with a white towel. thanks carl, ill look into the "heatshield" ill start emptying all my loosechange at the end of the day in a bucket for a new dash...
  16. i first noticed a tiny crack emerging from the right end of my dash about a year ago. i was histarical! but then i thought it was just a little tiny crack and maybe it had been there for a real long time and i never noticed it. but gradually the size has increased and 2 more tiny little cracks have started to show up. is there any way i could seal it or preserve it before it really starts to get bad?
  17. haha, thanks. actually some idiot found an unmolested 240z stored in a barn for god knows how long and bought it for something like 500 bucks. then he starts ripping out the PERFECT interior and tries to sell it on ebay and then talks about how hes gonna gut the motor and swap it for a v8. he posted all this somwhere in forums. anyways he didnt have any questions, he was just trying to wizz us off. so i signed on hybrid and told them i found a mint 240z with an ls1 and i was gonna chissel out the motor and replace it with an l24. i posted a picture of a real 240z with an ls1 and had a few of them going before the forum was deleted and i was banned. what can i say, summer vacation and nothing better to do yea exactly, they didnt even have proof i was lying
  18. oops, ignore this post
  19. hybridz.org sucks. they banned me from their site so i encourage all of my fellow classiczcar members to boycott it... or send them a paypal donation with a stolen credit card!

yeah i remember jumpin up and down when i saw the z in that 70's show, it was the one where they went to the drive in. and that reminds my, there was a blue z in an episode of the coolest show ever, SEINFELD! it was only for a second though. it was parked infront of a house somwhere in the suburbs when jerry, elaine and george went to a party.

  22. as long as all four of your wheels lock up when slamming on your brakes, it doesnt really matter. it would be cool though if you could install an abs system. z's could definatly use that, especially in the rain. i was only a couple feet from having to change my username to "Lassykiller280" a couple days ago
  23. yea whatever happened to him...
  24. haha, sounds like shuffling through warez sites here it is, i think the link is dead though. and i was wrong it was more like 16 months ago http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6996&highlight=blonde+joke
