Cleaning out the shed. Few spare parts.
Is the R200 an LSD type (Sorry if this is a stupid question!)? Do you know the ratio?

Instrument Panel Modification
For those of us doing a GT-R replica, it can be tiring (and expensive!) to find all the little bits that make up the differences. We have to draw a line somewhere... The cover on the instrument panel in our cars is woodgrain, but the GT-R had a brushed aluminium one (and the same for the centre console). One of the easiest ways to replicate the "look" without spending a bucketload is to get some silver/chrome spray paint and give it a lick. Good enough for some. Just recently Peter (440K) came over to pick up the parts car I had, and invited another guy who has recently been inspired - Sasha. We were talking and he mentioned that he was told that underneath our woodgrain is actually the same brushed aluminium as the GT-R's had!! Stay with me now... stranger things have happened. Seeing as I have a couple of the old woodgrain ones spare, I decided to give it a shot. Warm water didn't seem to get the faux woodgrain off, nor did a knife. It was stuck on tight and didn't look like it was going to budge. So I impetuously got out the old rusty PAINT STRIPPER can. If this didn't do the job, nothing would. Left the paint stripper on all over the woodgrain for a good couple of hours to let it do its magic. Sure enough, with the help of a little more warm water (careful now not to make it too hot, as I warped the panel doing this), it peeled right off to reveal a nice looking metal finish (ref picture 1*). A bit of gooey residue but nothing Big Kev couldn't remove with his Goo Removerâ„¢. Now, as I expected the finish isn't exactly right... It is metal yes, but not brushed aluminium. I don't know if there are any places that could replicate that finish... but would be very interested to hear if anyone knows. Anyway, the metal does look similar and could pass (ref picture 2). If you get out the metal polish and give it a bit of a go it will come up like chrome (ref picture 3). Horses for courses, up to you. What was disappointing however was the strange horizontal lines on each side of the holes (ref picture 4). Not sure what they are, perhaps something to do with the manufacturing process? Anyway, thought I would share this information as I hope it will be useful to some. If anyone could shed some light on whether there is such a place that could "brush" the metal, I'm sure a lot of people here would really appreciate it. So thanks Sasha for sharing this story, and the mystery 240K man who discovered it!! * I made the pictures quite large (~200KB) to maximise detail. Sorry to those with 56k!

C110: RB20 or L28?
May I just say thank you so much to everyone who has replied so far. It is a really interesting topic I think, for all of us to talk about. If anyone else has some alternative views or other information please don't be shy! Ben, do not regret anything. Opinions are what make this place work - sometimes the loudest are not always right. PLEASE do not keep your opinions to yourself. People can disagree with you, so what. I started this topic because I wanted to hear what people had to say, and I appreciate your comments. For what it's worth, I seem to remember seeing a 800-1000 HP L-series engine. Maybe someone could confirm that? It isn't really the point though I know. They are both very strong engines. But if you are going to talk about strength, then why not bring the Toyota 1JZ to the table? I will post a longer reply later! I'm surprised no one has said anything about a Nissan or Toyota V8 yet though... edit: My reference to the 800HP L-series engine was probably out of that same car you speak of, Ben. Do you remember the output figure?

GC10 on ebay in California!!!
Very nice indeed!! I really like these four door GC10s, they have a certain nostalgic feel about them. Though I think it is unfortunate that the rear wheel arches have been modified for the "GT-R" look. A lovely car nonetheless. I wonder what the reserve is.

C110: RB20 or L28?
It's quite interesting with these cars - we have one RB25DET conversion going on, a V8 monstrosity project, an SR20DET in the US and already one C110 converted to RB20 with triple webbers, among others... Quite a few different choices people have made! My engine is the original L24 still, and while it certainly sounds the part and goes alright it is getting a little tired and smokey. I'm on the verge of getting a full-time job which will change my lifestyle significantly and as such I don't really know what the future of my car is right now. What I do know is if I do get to keep it, I'll be swapping a different engine in. So I'd like to hear what you guys' opinions are on this. Obviously you've all chosen your engines for various reasons, but why? What do/did you hope to achieve? And for those without a conversion, what's your opinion? Personally, I think it's between an L28, RB20DE or RB20DET for my car and budget. L28: It's period! Pretty much the same engine as what the car came with so a lot less fiddling around with engine mounts etc. and less hassles getting it legal. Cheaper, and has that "old school" sound. Expensive to build any great deal of power out of though, and as it's already pretty old it will need a rebuild. Cheaper and easier to fix if anything goes wrong though. RB20DE:As much as some triple webbers would be fantastic on the side of an RB20 engine (perfect replica of the S20) I just don't think it's worth it for me. A fair bit of money to be spent converting from EFI to those exxy carbs and you get worse economy and reliability. So I'd stick with the EFI. Non-turbo engines are cheap nowadays and make reasonable power (155HP*). A fair bit of modifying to do though... gets expensive and then you have to ask yourself - why not just go that extra step further to RB20DET? RB20DET:Probably a grand more than an RB20DE halfcut, but with an extra 60HP* stock it is arguably worth it. But the cost does not end there as you need to fabricate intercooler, buy boost controller, etc. etc. and of course, means more things to go wrong. Turbochargers are going to be about 15 years old now... So what do you think? Any opinions on these engines, or others?? * Sourced from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_RB_engine

Anyone want a leather 240K shifter boot?
Hi guys, A while ago I had a custom boot made up for my car. They used the deteriorated one on the parts car as a template and reproduced it. Now it's not as good as a factory item, but it does the job and looks good enough. They made me two though as they took much longer than they said. One leather, one vinyl. I chose to use the vinyl one as to be more inconspicuous. So I have a leather one lying around. I thought maybe somebody would like it? I could chuck it up on ebay but I thought I'd offer here first. It cost me $60 (price of one) so I'd sell it for say half, $30. I've attached some pictures of it, as well as two showing what the vinyl boot looks like in my car. Again I stress, it's not perfect. Also if anyone's after a grille I have two now and can only really afford to hold onto one. Free to whoever wants it. Pickup only.

Over Fenders!
The Fairlady Z432 or Z432-R did not have overfenders! It was the Fairlady 240ZG that had them. You can install them without removing the fenders. Jmortensen is on the money in regards to welding up the rear fenders I believe. Though I would (and did) use pop-rivets, as this is what Nissan used. I wonder if Alan is watching? He would probably be the most helpful, being the only (??) member I know of on this board with a car with overfenders from factory.

KGC110 Skyline for sale in U.S.!
Here are some pictures of the grille. Thanks for clarifying that Tom. Interesting find... but I don't agree with him on the looks thing. The best thing about these grilles IMO is that they are "different". Speaking of grilles, anyone want a normal 240K grille? I've got two now and one will have to be thrown out as it's taking up room.

Pgc10 & Kpgc10 Dvd
Yup, for sure, rule of thumb is the less you pay for a DVD player, the easier it is to get around the region lock :nervous: . If you still can't work it out though I have a few geeky friends in the US who might be able to help. Saves sending it outside the country.

KGC110 Skyline for sale in U.S.!
So it's five then! Right Matt?? That's quite a few in my mind considering how many were there a year or two ago. :knockedou I think you're right Brian. Keep looking. Art, this one has a GT-R style grille. A different mesh all together. GC110 Cars in Japan also came with the same grille as our 240K, and the "belt-buckle" which I have never seen in person but I think it is a different mesh. I know Jim has seen one though, do you remember Jim?

Ohh! So that's what happened to the first listing. Man, that was ages ago. I wonder how many C110's are in the USA? Quite a few now... Wonder if he'd sell me his GT badges :nervous: :nervous:

Rear Bumper End Caps?
If they are the same part as I think, there was a topic here about them and their use (so that pedestrians' clothes wouldn't get caught on the bumper!). I thought they were standard equipment on Fairlady Z-L's in Japan... but can't find the original topic. edit: Still can't find that topic with pictures, but I quote Alan Thomas from THIS topic: Hopefully the same part as you are talking about.

Early 240Z wheels and hubcaps
Nah Arne, I was joking, in reference to your "I think I'll just sit on them" comment!! You can do whatever you like with them - just make sure they are definitely secured before driving anywhere, and no hard cornering!!

Early 240Z wheels and hubcaps
No!! Then you'll bloody bend them! Interesting to hear the demand too, but if I were you I would keep the original wheels too. I wouldn't start trying to repaint them as I think that would decrease the value since they are in pretty good nick now anyway. Maybe I'm weird, but I wouldn't want them to be perfect. Got to have a bit of patina!
