New 240K coupe owner introduction
Hi Jesse- Nice plans, something a bit different. Black will definitely look great, it'll really show up all the chrome. Having guards flush with the bodywork is not to my tastes, but is not bad. I have attached a picture for you. In black you would hardly notice if they're bolt-on or not anyway, but the "smoothness" of the flares without pop-rivets might come out in the highlights much better.... Strangely, I dont have a picture of a black hardtop! ...Michael?

So-So 1970 Diecasts at Big Lots
The Kyosho (1:18) comes in 240Z (LHD), Fairlady Z-L, 240ZG, Fairlady Z432-R, Monte Carlo rally car and Safari rally car variations. The Fairlady Z-L has correct hubcaps (no logo), the 240ZG has correct hubcaps (Z in the centre), and the Z432-R and rally cars don't have hubcaps. You probably have the 240Z which like you said has the Fairlady Z-L hubcaps without anything in the centre. Interesting...

So-So 1970 Diecasts at Big Lots
I found Kyosho the best. Franklin Mint is way too expensive (and only 1:24!) and the others are crap. The "Road Signature" rally car has hubcaps!?!??! I have 3 Kyosho S30's, the Road Signature rally car and an AutoArt 350Z (AutoArt makes very good models also, but no S30).

Random Questions
Every now and then something odd really intrigues me. I'm sure you do the same.. Anyway here are my questions - does anyone know the answers, or willing to guess? 1. Why are the sidewalls on F1 cars and other race cars high-profiled? 2. Why do some Japanese numberplates have a big diagonal red line through them? Feel free to add your own questions if anything's been on your mind recently

Victory 50 K.Takahishi Reproduction
Fantastic, I've noticed some C10's in the racing gear have a hole in the left headlight mold, whilst others do not. Was this a change they made during the cars' racing history or something else I wonder?

Looking for pics of Japanese hexagonal grills
Alan - I think I misunderstood when you said "finer mesh"! I was thinking the actual metal was thinner, not the holes between the metal smaller. :stupid: That makes more sense... I wonder if there was ever any problems with the race cars sucking up bugs/dirt/debri when racing... were most of the other racing cars of this era the same (without filters)?

Ever Wonder How Far People Will Go To Get A Z Engine?
Refer to the title of the topic!! This guy will go so far as to risk his own life (and his wife's?) to get a new engine. Phew!

Badges
Well done Rob! Yes, the C210 badges are very similar. I think perhaps only the export market "DATSUN" badges were all upper-case? Here is the C110 "Skyline" badge for comparison. What date was your car produced Tom? I was actually thinking of your car while posting that! Maybe yours was one of the "crossover" cars (Nissan has been known to produce a few of these in the transition between models to use up all inventory).

C110 240K Service Manual Ebay Australia
This is probably THE most useful resource for your Skyline - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=418&item=2284006749&rd=1 I am in no way part of this sale, just that I have one and it's fantastic.

Badges
I was going to post a new topic about this, but here seems good enough- from pictures I've found there were (at least) 3 different rear panel "SKYLINE" badges. Pictures tell a thousand words. The first is what appears to be the most common, in white text. The second seems to only appear on GT-R's from the pictures I've seen, so either it was GT-R specific or only for very early models - I do not know. It is a bit harder to read with the black text. Later (1975 seems to pop into my head for some reason) the next style came in. This style also appeared in Australia with late-model 240K's except reading "DATSUN" instead. Does anybody have comments, additional info, or corrections?

PIC00026
This is a 610 - 180B in Australia. The successor to the 510 (1600). In Japan I think they were still called the Bluebird. Kinda like a mini C110 hey? There's a silver one in my city, I'm keeping my eye on it...

steering assist
Yeah 2 1/2 turns isn't it? Make sure your tyre pressure is correct (when the tyres are cold) - makes a huge difference.

z won't go vroom
Ben - to avoid the petrol spilling anywhere you can also just put the filter inside a plastic bag before unplugging it - all petrol will just go BLERH into the bag. Make sure you check your lines too! The hoses on my Z were CLOGGED. Also, make sure to check the filter a week or two after you change it as if there's rust in the tank/lines you'll see it.
