From what I've seen the metal-to-plastic movement at Nissan seems to have been during about 1970-1971? All of the badges on my car were/are plastic, except for the grille "240K" badge which was metal. The GT-R one I have now is plastic, but could well be a reproduction item from Nissan or other - I don't know. I did see some red "GT" C110 badges on Yahoo Japan Auctions described as metal though, so who knows! I probably will never see let alone own a set of real ones... I don't like the idea of using anything other than pins to put badges on the car... but I have been very tempted to remove the pins from the C210 items I have and just be done with it. The purist in me won't let me do that though!

Hi Jim, Sure do. Attached is a C210 GT badge. Note the subtle differences. Are you sure those are OEM C110 GT badges though? They seem to have a matte finish, and no pins which would be odd for badges in such good condition...

Dashboard Restorations in Brisbane (and U.S.) quoted me $330 AUD.
  5. Rest in peace, Carl. And my sincere condolences to his friends and family.

The R33 "GT" badge is similar... pretty different though. The closest in shape, style and size is the C210 badge, which is almost identical. I bought a set of C210 badges (which were not cheap, by the way) from Japan being told they were for C110. The pins - unfortunately - do not line up. The script, size and shape of the badge is slightly different too. Miles, if you ever do come across some decent C110-specific red "GT" badges (reproduction or otherwise) for a reasonable price, please let me know! It is the only exterior item I am still trying to find. P.S. Here's a picture of what an R33 "GT" badge looks like on a C110. This is Ray Ferguson's car.

Hey Tom, Still no replacement? Personally I think you should just go for it and get the Skyline badges from Japan... but I guess then if THOSE are stolen, you'll really be upset. There were at least two different kinds of rear quarter "Datsun" badges as I mentioned in a PM to you... please see the attached image. It might not bother you if they don't match (certainly, no one else would notice), but in case it does...

First time I've ever entered my car in an event... apparently it got a lot of interest but meh, I was too busy checking out the rest of the cars!!! You will find some pictures here: http://storm.elxx.net/alfadog/racq2006/index.html Good event, but I was disappointed with the lack of organisation and the serious lack of Japanese motors. Last year there were probably double. The Classic Japanese Show and Shine on Sunday 1st October in Strathpine should be much better!!!

So do I! Here's (from what I can tell) the way the badges were given out: Skyline 2000 GT : Blue (gearknob blue) Skyline 2000 GT-E : Blue (gearknob blue) Skyline 2000 GT-X : Gold (gearknob gold) Skyline 2000 GT-X-E : Gold (gearknob gold) Skyline 2000 GT-X-E-S : Green (gearknob green) Skyline 2000 GT-R : Red (gearknob red) Datsun 240K GT: Blue (4-speed gearknob black, 5-speed blue) Datsun 240K GL: Reddish Orange (4-speed blue, 5-speed blue) But here's the best part. The GTX-E-S came with a brushed aluminium guage panel and centre console inserts. A la GT-R. The above information is very fragile. It's not based on fact, just what I've seen in brochures, pictures etc. I do not intend to offer it as gospel truth!!!

Excellent information from Jim as per usual. I had forgotten about those old articles.. and you're absolutely right. I think that information is just about as good as any official documentation released by Nissan. Very interesting picture showing the lack of heater et al! I stand by my initial understanding of it though. That is, these things were an option (whether it was optional to have them, or optional to not have them I don't want to presume). The reason I believe this is that firstly, the vast majority of pictures of authentic GT-Rs (including very, very original ones) I have seen have had these things (sometimes one without the other). Secondly, the official Nissan dealer brochure for the car shows quite clearly the heater, clock, and radio. And yeah the quarter vents of course - I had put these under 'badging' but you're right, it shouldn't really be put under 'badging'. "Professor M" signing out--

Nah, not for t-shirts but good guess That's the style, great big stinkin' images, unfortunately I need the GT-R one only But thanks anyway!

I would be very careful about making statements like that! What is your source? Good point that I had forgotten, but yes some did not get a radio. I'm not sure whether this was an option or a later-model thing but I suspect the former. Are you sure? I've never seen one without? Again, I suspect this could have been an option. But yes, some do not have a clock or lighter. From what I've seen most do though... As I said in the topic, I do not believe it is the exact same finish, but it is close. I don't think this is correct... where did you see this? Yes, GTR's no panel down there. I don't see what's different about the design though? Also, different rear seats (slightly!), rear parcel tray (no lines in it), slightly different design of steel wheel, different tacho, speedo and oil pressure guage.

Thanks Miles, but nah I do not need a resampled image - I should have been more careful with my words. I don't need a larger one, I just need a higher resolution one. I know that it is floating around somewhere on the Internet as I've seen it before but did not save it... and now I'd like it for a little side project!!!
  14. Mike is right as far as I know. The reason I always thought was so that they were flat (more visible on the side). Please feel free to tell me I'm wrong! P.S. My 240 had neither, and that's the best way IMO!!

There are heaps. Some more minor than others. Where you draw the line is up to you. But a quick list includes: - Badging (front grille, rear panel, side quarter, interior door, steering wheel centre, dash) - Quarter vent and petrol filler cover - Overfenders - Rear "ducktail" spoiler (front was not standard, and not a sports option I believe) - Front Bucket seats (not Datsun buckets, but similar) - Fender mirrors - Front grille - Rear tail lights and outer plastic chrome surround - White glass (I believe all 240K's came with white glass, but some domestic models got blue glass) - Guage panel and centre console inserts brushed aluminium - Steering wheel & gear knob - No rear demisters - Black windscreen wipers - Different sill trim - Also note that all GT-Rs were EARLY cars, and thus did not have any of the revisions (e.g. round rear reflectors, round air vents, different console etc.) And finally, - S20 ! & driveline I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them right now. I hope you appreciate this information. As you know it is not easy to find out let alone prove.

Good info, I have also been on eBay since 2001 and was just scammed a couple of weeks back, so I will re-iterate what you said. If it smells like a rat, it is a rat. I'd also like to stress the importance of when you list your items. Think about not only when it will finish, but when you are listing it. People who search regularly will search ordered from "most recent". Naturally, more people look at auctions in the evening and during weekends. So if you list on a Wednesday morning, chances are you will have less people see your listing as they may "lose interest" after looking at a page or two of the latest. One other thing I think is important - don't be rude!! Sounds obvious but the number of listings you see where the seller is short with their description and plain rude about questions is huge. Answer every question as if they are a potential buyer. Also, I don't know why people do this but don't list your item without pictures. So many people seem to think it's ok to list your car, and just add a note "I'll put some pictures on later" at the bottom. Firstly, this is a major turnoff as it shows you are not really that eagre to sell. Secondly, are you trying to hide something? Thirdly, it's very easy to scan the page, if there aren't pictures, close it. Many will not read your entire description. So, TAKE PICTURES FIRST! One more thing. If your item does not sell, it does not mean it's not worth the price you ask. So many other factors affect the final price. List it again in a month or two if you have the ability, and you may see it reach a reserve. For example I once listed something for $15 starting price, and it received no bids. I listed it two months later at $9.99 and it reached $50. 6 bidders were involved. It really is hit or miss sometimes. This also brings forward the point you brought up about low starting prices. Good to start low. But not too low. That's all I can think of now! Good write-up!

Sorry Brian but the extra pedals I had are now in the hands of one of the other newly found Kenmeri fanatics in the US, Mat Big Hat. Personally I think a V8 in a C110 would suit quite fine. The hood even has the bulges in the right places......
  18. I think some of the 2+2 prices at the moment are stupidly high. They are simply not worth the same price as a 2 seater, whether they like it or not! People seem to be experimenting a bit with their prices I think. The value rose a bit and then has remained a bit stagnent I feel. People are trying to push that value higher. I agree with Gav, 15k for that burnt orange one sounds like a good deal for the Australian market.
  19. What an obsession, though I have to admit a fun one!! The new wheels look SUPERB Victor. You have great taste!

Bit of an odd question, hopefully someone can help. I'm looking for the original, LARGE version of this (attached) picture. Anyone able to help? Thanks!
  21. Holy crap, you really are dedicated to your new 280ZX aren't you!! Oh boy, this is such a steal. What a sensational car. Love it!
  22. Whatever colour it is, I think it would have to have gunmetal grey overfenders for me, not black. The pewter 240ZG you pictured is sensational no questions asked, but after seeing Alan's brown "maroon" 240ZG I have to say, that's got to be the best colour combination. There is just something so charming about this colour - it's originality, classic appeal and the fact that it's a colour that you really wouldn't expect to look good. When I think of "240ZG", I think of GP Maroon. Nothing beats it. Some interesting other colours that I like though are GP White, dark blue, silver and black & white (police car colours!) Here are some pictures. Make sure to check out Alan's gallery for the GP Maroon. Beautiful car...

    1) 260Z/280Z came with blue air filter housing, but not 240Z. 2) Like Arne said. Interestingly, later 260Zs and 280Zs did get a pull handle on driver side, though it was a one-piece joined to the arm rest (not relevant to this car). EDIT: Sorry Ben, you just beat me!

Good luck! I'm sure it will sell, will be interesting to see how much for though. Judging by recent eBay cars, I think you will be satisfied.

Unfortunately, I believe the S30Z tooling was destroyed quite some time ago. A real pity, if it hadn't then who knows, perhaps the Factory Z Programme would have been exactly that!
