Wanted! 1970 240Z in Good to Great Condition
To get the quality of car you are talking about is not going to be cheap. Plus you never really know the car until you own it. Can't always tell what you're getting. Why don't you spend the money on the car you know? Going from an 8.5 to a 10 will cost but at least you know what you have.

Would it be a crime...
Are you the same guy that wanted to know about car color? I'd say the answer would be the same, it's your car. Do what makes you feel good about the car you drive. The only thing I would say contrary to that is : If the car is a 70, 71, or 72 try to make the install without compromising the orig. look of the dash,ie,don't cut it. Some day you might want it to be all orig. again. Good luck and have fun !!!

Footrest?
Mike, Was the car you saw a car slated for the US, or was it a car made for another country and made it's way here? I've never seen the foot rest before.

Lost 5th gear
One problem these 5 speeds have is the retaining nut for 5th can loosen and back off. That would also cause the problem you're describing. I agree with kmack, it needs to be opened up before it crashes. Good luck.

FW rubber grommet for engine harness
Are you trying to be fully original? If not you can get oversized grommets, that are similar, at some hardware stores. I found what I needed at Ace Hardware. They have all kinds of hard to find stuff like that. Good luck !

Garage or Storage Gotta know
I have a two car garage which is under the same roof line as the rest of the house. I had an A/C vent installed to help with the moisture in the air. One wall has a work bench with storage under and cabnets over for some of my tools. Also have a rolling tool box for the rest.

I did it, bought the 350
Ok, truth be known, my '72' and my '90' both reside in the garage. My wife's 4Runner sits in the weather. I don't know of any smiling or winking between the cars, but I do know that I usually have an ear to ear when I'm in the 240. The 300 is my daily driver and a comfortable ride. My 240 hauls arse, makes a loud exhaust noise, and beats the wheels off the 300 in fun. They are referred to as the GOLD car and the RED car. I wouldn't trade either for a 350. Not knocking the 350's just love my cars.

What'd you get for Father's Day?
Father's Day ?!!! Hummmm!! F-- is for the FAMILY that sleeps while I cook my own breakfast. A-- is for the AGE that I feel as I look at my 10 year old with his 30 year old sister. T-- is for the TIMES I have spent with my kids, t-ball, karate, dance class, etc. H-- is for the HUNDREDS of HOURS spent putting various toys together with instruction that a five year old can follow. I'm not FIVE. E-- is for the ENERGY that is sucked out of me on the week ends trying to keep up with my 10 year old. R--is for all the other REASONS I'm where I am and have the kids I have and loving it. Put them all together they spell a place to visit after I retire. I'll eat all their food. Leave the lights on in every room in their house. Stand in front of the frig. for hours trying to decide that there's nothing in there I want. Spoil my grand kids , have two already, and then leave. Any questions?

Trumpets
I'm not sure of the power increase, but I did notice a difference in the idle and exceleration once I installed the trumpets. A buddy of mine races Z's with mikunis like mine and he is the one that suggested I get some. They affect the air flow into the carbs by making a smooth transition into the carbs. As to filters I installed the trumpets in a set of K&N filters. The intake is short enough to allow filters that will let me do that. There are some foam filters that can be stretched over the trumpets, but they get dirty fast. Good luck.

Lost Keys
Hi Greg, Using the key code is the easiest way. Just find a locksmith with the key cutter. A nissan dealer should have one also. The only other way I know of is to have a locksmith do it the old fashion way, which is to trial fit a key blank, cut, retry, cut, etc. That way takes some time and could cost alot more than having the code. Find the key code if you can. My 72 had a sticker in the glove box with the code, try there. Good luck. Barrie

Bonnet release cable
At least it sounds as if yours snapped at home or someplace where you could fix it. Mine snapped at an out of town car show. I had popped the hood, or bonnet as you call it, the night before the show to flip the kill switch for the battery. The next morning the &%$#(*%@(*& cable broke. Same scenario to open it only I used a short screw driver to trip the latch. Feel your pain brother!!!!!

can u put 280 stuff in a 240??
I don't think you will. You may find that you will need a front mount since you have an early car. But you wont know til you start to line everything up.

can u put 280 stuff in a 240??
All I replaced on my 72 was the dif. and the moustache bar. Just pay attention to how the bar is mounted on the donor car. The R200 is longer than the current dif. The bar has a different bend to accommodate the length of the R200 on your 73 Good luck..

Factory restored Z
Should there be paint on the ID plate on the door jam? Makes me wonder if the car has already been smacked and repaired. I can't picture Datsun not removing the plate for paint to avoid overspray or paint from a bad masking job.
