    How Old?

I'll be in the 40 crowd in a couple of weeks. Time has started to accelerate as I was warned of years back, but still making time to spend with the Zs.... david
  2. I found doors to be 8 pounds each heavier 72 -73.....and of course front bumper mounts are close to 25 pounds. David
  3. Good to see this sell at such a great price. david
  4. Alex,Must have lowered price....But now the car has a deposit holding it til Jan 22nd...from a NJ ? buyer. Anybody here? david
  5. HI Nate, I've used DAS "dependable auto shippers" twice in the last year for Zs shipped California to NC...I would recomend if still looking. Serious money to be saved if you and/or seller happen to be close to one of their "terminals"... My 2 cents, David
  6. wonder what it will go for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...6&category=6187 I have read several of the previous threads concerning Vintage Zs, and still have questions about this most recent ebay auction stated "71" w/VIN # 4090....as well as looking at several parts in interior. I have VIN 5460 to compare to,and several parts, Gauges, steering wheel, dash. are not correct. Was this type of part substitution common for these beautiful restorations? respectfully, David
  7. Still a few in the pick-n-pulls.. david
  8. HI Jason, I've heard many say that under dash heater hoses are tough, but I spent 4 hours  time a couple of years back replacing what you are contemplating. The old stiff one is tough to get out, even after all the screws are removed, the lip of tube is a beach to bend, while pushing down. I'd have to believe you have to be double jointed to a degree to replace with tank in place. david
  9. :classic: Before discarding the thoughts of seriously running the existing engine, why not run a compression test? Get a feel for what you have now. Get the SU video from Ztherapy, study, and then clean/adjust the carbs to function properly, relace the dizzy with a 79-80 280zx part, some headers,"mainly for noise on a stock engine" , get the timing set right, check for timing chain "slop"..most likely due a new one, check hard for vacumn leaks on manifold, carb shafts, brake booster lines....all these items can be used on your 280 transplant if you decide to move in that direction. 175 crank HP is easily attainable...200 possible with semi stock engine, with right setup, and proper tuning But for the same money spent on the larger blocks "280" + you will always have a more torque and HP. david
  10. Hi, Interest here in western North Carolina...Line starts here... :classic: Email me at: Volgolf@aol.com I have JDM fender mirrors, grill... clock would be great addition. David Spillman
  11. HI Jared, If considering keeping your car original.."loaded word" I know you can make 175-200hp with stock head/valves & cam with .o40 overbore, 9.5 compression. That said, fitting 280 valves in the stock head little larger cam, with standard bore and good quaility rings, should net you similar results. I like being able to turn 7400 if need be with my 240 engine. David
  12. I would be interested in when the plastic clips were changed to metal.... I believe it changed before VIN # 5000.. I have 5634...it has metal clips...Would any 3600-5600 VINs care to speak up? david
  13. dkd021, I find it hard to find much of anything NOS (early Z related) for under $50....NOS hubcaps? I find it hard to believe there is a big stash sitting around out there somewhere. May be wrong and I hope I am, cause I need 2 1/2 sets myself. Inspection door clips...Chris W, Carl B., please put me on that list for 3 sets....Keep em away from Ebay please..... :nervous: david
  14. Hi, its sold and delivered... waiting on the rest of the car to be ready... David
  15. Hi Bret, I walked into local nissan dealership, and ordered a 240z cam....it came internally oiled. Was told the 240z part #s replaced with later ones. Not a lot of difference, but I know for sure I have a cam thats not worn. David
  16. I've run with both oiling systems for 3 years now in race enviroment "ITS SCCA" No problems with stock oil pump, turbo robs HP,.....180+ crank HP.... YMMV, David Spillman
  17. Imagine my surprise early this morning to see midwest z-car bidding on a new 72 dash. May not be the same, but thought I'd stir up the rumors. 18. Hi Corganx33... Where are you located? I could use a couple of engine stands... ...Whoops, Matt, Found you info on the other webpage. I'll be in Durham this saturday at the Z car show, any chance can swing by?... David Spillman W..1-800-228-8650 Cell..1-828-289-0098
  19. You can use eccentric bushings where control mounts.....could also use other means, but eccentric are easiest. david
  20. HI Sopwith, Run as little as possible on both ends...zero in the rear...fronts just enough to make it turn in. Replace all the mushy bushings with poly or delrin...check bearings. dragging wheels around is sure way to go slower in a straight line. david
  21. Try it again Sam. Deadflow... crankcase vent hose is one with the wrong clamp ....must of been a lapse of sorts...clamp theif maybe... david
  22. Here are a couple of pics.... Line to pcv valve comes from tube off block directly under #1 exhaust....
  23. Howdy, I've tested on chassis dyno both with and without airhorns....Without you'll get higher peak HP, but loose much of the broad torque curve the Z is famous for........I had about 5 HP inrease HP w/out, not worth the sacrifice of torque IMHO....smaller air horns create higher torque numbers generally while less HP.....lot to be gained and lost with airhorn size shape, or lack of. The hose off the valve cover to the backing plate for filter creates vacumn that can pull out a lot of air borne crap out of the engine while cold....I'm sure someone here can extrapolate further YMMV david
  24. Sopwith, You need to section or shorten strut tubes.....to gain more wheel travel. May require different struts...Is there a spacer under your new struts now?.....Really sholdn't be bottoming out, bad on your equipment, speed. Sounds like you got the hang of power on over steer!! David
