  1. Looking for opinion on these Fog lights. Where on a 240 bumper, but have a SAE-F-78 on lenses....1978 production? Not real familiar with what might have been offered in 77-78....ideas. USHIO on lense ...USHIO Electric INC. on the back Prize or Junk. David
  2. Billramsey2002 I'm in the same boat I go here to check out things I forget or don't know.....hmm kinda the same aren't they!:cross-eye Might help... http://zhome.com/History/DesignChanges.htm David
  3. INF, The Bolt I have is approx..86mm long at base of bolt head uses a 10mm wrench ,right? david
  4. Pusher, Wheel shaking meaning what? Bouncing or wobbling? Take that tire to the local tire store and have em spin it on a balancing machine or just spin the tire manually to determine if the wheel is bent. If it's not bent, and your seeing a wobble while driving, yoou may have bent or broken stub axle...Dangerous......Hopefully not david
  5. Erique, How ironic, I spent the last hour of light yesterday in a local JY looking for a early hcp heater control panel with chrome trim intact....Wasn't completely satisfied with my find, so I may seriously consider using the later HCP if for no other reason, availability. I respectfully make a motion to move relevent posts to and rename thread to,as Car Collection Terminology, description standards, or something similar.... david
  6. Raising rear wheels off the ground and while grasping outer tire, try to rock both top to bottom and side to side...rule out bearing/stub axle being bad Stock bushings shouldn't move a whole lot . Good idea for all cars occasionally. Check out the condition and positioning of rubber bushings retained at the inner pickup points of control arm should be able to measure center of spindle pin to center of inner large bolt head:D and compare right and left side for both front and rear of control arm,if more then a 1/8" difference look at bent control arm........ Comparing right and left wheel base measurements may inlighten as well if bent you then need to decide if the blame spindle pin will come out.......replacing the whole corner is quicker/easier if spindle pin refuses to come out, swapping strut inserts is a breeze with spring compressor vs trip to the machine shop. Of course the hammer approach may "straighten",but risks seperating the spot welds. If your lucky the PO has installed eccentric bushings. Adjust as needed. or replace with aftermarket poly....although stock rubber will feel better for the street. PICS would be nice. david
  7. Enrique, Describing the varying degrees of condition of a product is subjective. Condition is a relative term, The condition of a product will be descibed by 10 people in 10 different ways...if in enough detail and there is unmandated terminology available. This is the case in most advertisements. Buyer beware......Yes,we agree. I think. Varying degrees of "original" exist as well and to most somewhat subjective. ....... Edit..... Edit.... Edit..... Edit.... Editing post offered while in discomfort wanting that dead horse to quit kicking....... seriously Actual name, david spillman.... PS ebay ID: volgolf153q...for those sellers that believe I'm an unreasonable customer
  8. I have a used hose removed from my race car "73" if you're still looking..... David
  9. I mentioned the brake booster,I wasted 2 weekends racing while chasing imaginary gremlins...when all the time it was the booster going bad"leaking"...only affected engine above 5500 RPMs.... Good luck.
  10. Not sure of engines sold in australia, I really need to study more on datsuns outside the US..... but with the 73 240, that came with valve relief pistons...pistons had more positive deck clearance 73 model?.... maybe some influence on your piston design as well. You already no I'm sure, but there is interferance with standard bore 240 w/larger valves. david
  11. Dato, Don't forget linkage check to assure even opening of both carbs.....visual check should rule it out ....uneven airflow, linkage issue or bent valve. Long shot, but plug brake booster line at crossover to rule out leaky check valve, line or brake booster. just thoughts.:cross-eye david
  12. Ray, check your E88 head chamber size compared to PICS on Zcar.com PICS of E31....There are some Small chambered "E31 like" small valve, E88s as well. Competent machine shop can install your larger valves to early heads........with 280 no block modes needed, but w/240/260 will need to notch block for valve clearence . david
  13. Gary240z, There is a possibility that the E88 on your 71 240 is the small chamber version...The early 88s had small chamber of E31 and are very desirable in the SCCA ITS class,in that may flow better... unmodified, different casting. Easy check if you decide to pull head...31 and 88 chambers look the same. Being that engine/tranny has been swapped around....won't know for sure without looking. No exterior marking to verify....that I know of david
  14. DAJACEY: Found my loose screw.... Sifting through a box of to be discarded "junk" found half of early an early tray, there's my screw!!.....put the box back on the shelf. Box of junk turned into prize.... Man,its hard to throw old stuff away. david
  15. Tomohawk, I have this Pic of the one hanging in the basement..no numbers stamped in metel... just the nissan label w/part number etc... Any Pics of the radiator shroud? David
  16. Hi Daniel, I'm located approx 75 miles wst of Charlotte..Rutherfordton... I may try the junk yard myself. The JY is a fun place to hang out occasionally. Dave: Shoot me a Pic...I have ordered the pats CD offered on this site, but wl e awhile befor I receive. Thanks, David
  17. Hello, Looking at my early 71 1/2 ash tray lid...appears I'm missing the tiny screws that make up the lid hinge....Ideas for sources for this one or anyone have a busted up ashtray that has screws embedded. Other suggestions? david

    WHats going on back there?

2 manyZs, Noticed you had utilized many ducts for brake cooling,I used what appears similar setup in front...any secrets you care to share? I'm debating installing some kind of recirculator,or should I say alternate circuitry brake lines with mine.
  19. Yes!...that makes sense with 74 1/2 models....hmmm How did that get on those 240s?....30 year old car bound to have been owned by a Tarheel fan at one time maybe:classic: Interested in hearing others on this, I'd bet common knowledge stuff to the 260 guys. david
  20. Hi MariaAZ, Interestingly both cars I've seen had early SUs installed,I figured the 260 had the square or should I say not round carb inlet. Might still not prohibit the install of early carbs..... Can't find any 260 engine PICS without dome tops... david
  21. Nate, I to have made many trips to "not too badly rusted" cars, has many I'm sure. Shipping wasn't too terribly expensive....My quote for open carrier was $575 terminal to terminal,$675 pickup at sellers location to terminal,$775 I think seller to buyer address...I went with a enclosed trailer due to the salt and all this time of year for around a grand...course they hit you up for all kinds of insurance,I bought comp/coll from my local carrier to be covered on the way here just in case. There seem to be quite a few early zs out west...go west young man,and have a friend check it out first..... david spillman
  22. I'm feeling at home here, neck deep in Z talk and info...incredible wealth of information conversation. david
  23. HI Gary, No reason for anyone to be sorry for my actions. As far as test drives are concerned,I've driven 240s since 1983....."long time for me,but not to some original owners". My Green tan interior 72 was my first car that I owned in my name..but, I know what you mean. I'm not a confrontational guy,ask anyone. But I won't take any crap,if it matters. I didn't question the written word of a...... ya'll heard it before. Yep,I'm crazy about the 240z with a passion, both race and street cars. I'm left wishing sometimes that everyones passion was as pure. wishful thinking forsure. :surprised david spillman
  24. TT driver, As Frank13 said the head is correct for the car, with L24 stamped, its the correct "size" block for car.... I respectfully add that the numbers following the L24 should match the metal information tag screwed to the passenger side strut tower, inside engine compartment 99% of the time. The VIN # on that same tag should also match the VIN number stamped on firewall to be the original engine for that car.... I've been surprised over the past week or two, of the number of people that aren't truly aware of how to determine what engine is supposed to be sitting in their engine bay. David Spillman
  25. I've seen 2 of these cars, the 73 on ebay a while back and another car "71" again on ebay with a blue air box...same style as the 71-72 air box w/the summer winter flapper....if these did come on the 260 it would explain things, because I know nothing in relative terms about 260s......
