We have already removed the “flares….over fenders” There is corner identification, but it is more on a small white or silver tag like marked with 2 letter for corresponding corner. I’ll have to look in morning to give better idea, or picture.

Ah I see, the side grill mount bracket. I will be back with car tomorrow and check for the bracket condition. Looking at the vin, would place this car as a 1971 car or 72 ? In your opinion? Thank you!
-
Surprised the center grill mount left intact on mine and your pictures. I assume from legit NG/HH car? Not quite sure of the “snapped bracket”?
-
Thank you so much for responding, yes, those items mentioned are all on my car , but also some duct work, seemingly funneling air to the center of radiator?
-
Thank you so much for responding, yes I do enjoy the look, and as coincidence would have it, I obtained a set of proper gnose head light covers and trim with a purchase recently, that would complete the “look”. At this time, Is the demand high enough to justify the expense of restoring a DX model to high standard? Likely not sale either way, really have not sold any z to speak of since the affliction attached to me. I do have another car HLS30 could really make a hybrid out of with the gnose. Thank you again for your patience today

Thank you So much for adding to this discussion or better said "education of new HS30-10324 marked 240 DX owner". This car does appear to have a decent quality g-nose kit attached, along with riveted on fender skirts, and other details to replicate the ZG version. I'm torn in which direction to proceed, either return it to Z-L specs, or put back together as a "tribute car of sorts". I do so appreciate your patience with my questions. Part of my equation for now is determining the rarity of the HS30 DX or "L" model versus the entirety of HS30 production run from 71-73.... I do realize very few modifications were made to the HS30 body the create the ZG model, Looking at the picture Alan posted early, has 3 cars listed from top to bottom... only the ZG and ZL cars are totaled in the 2600 HS30 number correct? The 3rd option, shown 240z only had the 2000cc engine and was not considered HS30 ... I hope I'm understanding this, and if not, were does figure in the 2600#.. "discussion" number. Thank you again for your patience, I have owned 240z s in the US for many years. David

I wrongly assumed the entire chart was registered in Japan….. 2600 cars for the entire country ….. over 3 year period. Smack my head.. S30 equals not Japan…..

It does appear that the graphed areas between the green lines marked in the 71, 72, 73 columns would equal approx 2600 or so. The 1971 column green markings claiming That 175 cars were “HS30L” and “HS30ZG” of the 3900 total HS30 cars produced for 1971. Likewise 1972 was approx 1200 out of 6500 were the L24 engined cars. “L”, “ZG” Further more that up to 80% of these L24 cars were ZG/HH …. I’m hoping I’m saying this correctly from KATS post several years ago. The source of the 80% number is unknown, and would be questioned if the production numbers were as poorly documented as what I’m reading. I would actually think it closer to 90% would pay for the zg model after jumping the additional tax hurdle of that time. Quick math shows at 80/20 ratio that KATS claims there might have been 470 HS30 L versions total for those 3 years. I we use the 90/10 that I think is possible then the 3 year total drops to 235 Deluxe or “L” models. Rarity never determines desirability for sure, but the argument could be made in my opinion, that the “unknown” to most HS30-L model is the 2nd rarest model of the z/Fairlady z model run…. Behind only the R version of the 432 For the last 45 years, I’ve always been attracted to the gnose version, only recently being made aware of the existence of the L version. Yes, I have just purchased a legit L that looks like a legit zg, but the glovebox says differently. Sunday morning ramblings If discussed in the past with this direction of thought please direct me there. I agree completely with HS30-H “Such is the mystique - and joy - of the Japanese market variants”
-
Kats mention a 2600 total, that doesn’t correspond to the graph if in thousands on vertical axis. somewhat confusing

I have found the chart KATS graciously uploaded in aug of 2019 here regarding the break down of Japanese models 240z, ZL, and ZG. I'm not completely clear on the numbers represented and lines drawn showing the 3 models. Could use some help with deciphering this chart and accompanying paragraph, describing chart as well. Are there truly no "hard" numbers to go by? At first glance it appears the 240ZL group of cars is smaller then the 432 group. Surely this isn't true or is it something to discuss? Be Gentle if I'm off my rocker...... I have searched and can't truly find detailed info.

Pulled out a long stored 240z couple days ago, to look underneath, noticed the paper tag part number still intact in front side of muffler. It is painted black, so it definitely has been replaced at some time. Curious to opinions concerning saving the Paper tag or let it burn off with heat over time . Basically asking if ever in a judged show, would it hurt or help in “stock” class? David

Thank you for the response!! Excellent, as always, I have enjoyed your responses on this site for the last 20 years plus. I guess I need to discard the thought of claiming the one lefthand drive 432 that made it to the states!!😁. David

I haven’t seen a 432 in person, or a picture showing a downward view in front of the radiator to confirm or deny what actually attaches to the 2 center mounts… Was there a oil cooler mounted in front on the 432? The mount itself is constructed quite robustly. I did search for a conversation of this, but kept coming back to fog lights. David
-
I’ve never seen these mounts on the front of a 240z before. I’m thinking it is a fog light mount/bracket that also relocates the horn? Wiring for both stay in the same general area? Canadian model? Looking for input.

HI Ksbeta, Imagine my surprise, to see a car that sat in my barn for several years. An ebay find for me, that overwhelmed my available resources at the time. I drove up the driveway a few times, but never on the road. Surprise split with the wife in 2007 sent this car north. Don't think it was ever in my name, But I to marveled at the receipts that showed history in Georgia. Having remarried couple years back and preparing to sell old house and barn with 10 years of 240z stuff scattered about, let me know if you need any early z parts....I have most items. Heading to the scrap yard with many parts that may bea hassle to ebay. Seriously. Just give me a shout. Love to put these parts to good use. David

Carl, I've only had a word definition problem with Troy years ago....He's gotta be treating people decent to have stayed in business as long as he has...FWIW.... Just make sure you have a clear agreement with what he considers original...and you will likely be happy with what you purchase.... David Spillman

HELP! All Mechanical Eliminated- Wont rev past 4K
dspillman replied to Seanw987's topic in Electrical
:bulb: HI Sean, FWIW, I struggled through 3 SCCA weekends with a engine that would rev great til 5,000 RPM and then stumble badly..... Turned out to be a bad brake booster seal, allowing air to be drawn into intake manifold, screwing up mixture.... reversed check valve ran like a champ. Plugged off brake booster line, not a good fix for a street car, because pedal effort is quite high without the booster, but worth a try.....PS...would be kinda staring at you in the face as ur Dad said!!! Good luck, david spillman -
I haven't read every message on this thread, but I had similar problem with a high milage car.... Part of problem was pin and hole in top of clutch pedal was worn to being paper thin, and had a ton of free play before master cylinder moved at all. Check it out. Please excuse if this was mentioned earlier David

Having an all out engine built early on would be great.....I personally would spring for rebuilding stock bore engine yourself......rings, bearings, freshen up the head, if money is any kind of issue. Yes, you can get a decent 40 over "ITS" engine built for you any where from $3000 - $13,000......how fast$$$ can you go?.... HP ranging from 165-200 at the crank......How important is that last 10 horse power$$$$$.........But your fresh engine will be for naught if you haven't spent much time on the track....Worry about the engine last....Money spent other places will do more good now......Shop around a little for a built car, I just picked up a nice car, with trailer for under 10,000 grand........Less expensive then a all out engine from Sunbelt....which by the way are worth every dime...... David
