  1. More rust then anticipated under battery tray…
  2. The reason I brought this up was to allow Gav240z to possibly leave a additional response to the classiczcar thread on engine casting dates, that on his last post there, and I believe in the thread …… left his question/puzzle …. On the BAT thread from 2013 or so he came back and made statement on that comment section that for the most part said that it is very possible there is nothing wrong about how 2039 was stamped. Gav240z, Please don’t take my “tone” as agitated, or angry, we own separated twins…..well, sorta. I googled 240z vin 51 and HS30 51 popped up…. Incredibly interesting to me that 2 same vin cars know of each other, and are identical from the factory. Zedhead, Owning a 1969 z has been a quest of sorts for many years, good timing and fortune found one for me. I’m turning over rocks and shaking trees hoping to find more answers and history for this car….. Sorry for being so scattered about progress with car…. It’s my personality….
  3. I assume that it was the uniformity of the numbers stamped “level”. On the first one.
  4. Hoping the body panels would surprise me with no “hard” body work… not to be. Driver side over quarter window where roof joint is cut out and repair will be needed. Good news is no evidence of previous repairs here…. At least no filler is present. Passenger side shows better…. But with a couple of bubbles , we all know better. My early disassembly had me leaning towards not blasting, or dipping, but now this difficult to repair are I think requires to dig a couple layers deeper to expose….stuff. Layers of untreated , un painted metal from the factory can only result in rust
  5. Quick Sunday post to hopefully legitimize and state with pictures of “matching numbers” or as I would say “all original 240z”…… Vin..00051 October 69 car Block L-24 2239 Engine casting # 9828B Deciphered as block born on date of August 28th 1969. Which is in line with what to be expected. I mention this because of some discussion over the years, on BAT, and on this site about this car being a legit matching numbers car. I can understand the concern and the reasons for the discussion. Posting this combination of pictures to hopefully dispel any conflicting thoughts…zz I do welcome any thoughts about this car in anyway shape or form.
  6. This thread has been revived numerous times over the past 20 years…. I’ve read it myself on several occasions over the past 2 decades as more information has been added, Noticed on the last post ”previous post” concerning something out of place, with a picture of vin 51s engine block number…. Maybe looking too uniform, and yes it is straight, unlike most other engine block numbers. Sloppyness, or just difficult to hand strike, or done at end of of hard day while enjoying a stiff drink? I”ve attached the block code from other side, that is in line with production date of this car to hopefully dispel the question of why block “assigned” number is stamped in a straight line. Please don’t take this post with any animosity towards anyone, it is just to hopefully clear, or dispel thoughts of any bad deeds done before concerning this car.
  7. Gotta get busy……. Carbs are waiting on the Fairlady!
  8. Proper, legit tow hook…..
  9. Loaded and heading home
  10. Purchased last year, and resting… Has zg nose, and other factory items that point towards being a ZG….. but glove box says ZL
  11. Yes, it does appear to have been a “buy now”….on bring a trailer…. I havnt seen that before…. But may have been 10 years ago…. But mentions in later in comments it had been on eBay for 3 years at $10,000 and no takers….
  12. 130 comments over 3 years for a auction/buy now…that lasted 2days…..…
  13. Here ya go…. https://bringatrailer.com/2013/11/21/bat-exclusive-the-18th-earliest-surviving-datsun-240z/
  14. Early hand throttle cable attachment under cowl spot weld pulled out. Drivers floor has a couple of rust areas, under seat as well…… more inspection needed from underneath to determine if new floors, or replacement of rotten areas. Firewall looks perfect Neat inscription/stamp “Speedo change” over passenger visor area on edge of headliner and proof that headliner had been dyed to black…. Originally a green/ tan car
  15. IMG_7311.MOV My Helper…… we moved away as soon as finished making smoke!!
  16. Right rear inner quarter looks clean. plastic fuel vent T broke off, was very brittle. Hoping there is a reproduction for that part. Spare tire space has some surface rust, after a quick wire wheel, the light under the car trick showed no stars ⭐️showing through from below….. border line to replace, have evaluate further for course of action.
  17. There is a proper name for the decipher……looking at the “white dot”, over or under letters of appropriate name…
  18. Roof/door frame of body at top of quarter window showing some decay on drivers side, will need some repair.
  19. Removing glass today documenting quarter windows … both dated 9/69 rear hatch…..dated 9/69 passenger window…dated 9/69 front window was aftermarket that literally crumbled in my hands while removing Drivers door window 9/70….”door and glass appear to have been replaced to that approx year.
