  1. Whoa, too many "know it alls"? I find that a strange comment from someone that many of us consider one of the "know it alls" ( and I mean that in a GOOD way) when it comes to 280's, 320 trucks and "Datsun" in general. IMO, the "know it alls" (the 'real' ones) are a fantastic resource and are what makes the other stuff that any given person dislikes worth wading through. Let's not be critcizing people with knowledge who choose to share it, whether it is related to the oil capacity of a Z engine, the discrepancies between fill capacities in the various F.S.M.'s through the years, repetitive posts about installing a J.Y. RX7 fuel pump in a Z, or any other Z subject. Let's just be sure the info posted is as accurate as can be.

dizzy = distributor msd == an aftermarket brand of ignition systems (Multiple Spark Discharge, i believe) i put a pertronix ignitor system in my car to replace a Crane XR700 which was causing me no end of problems. it was cheaper and in my car it performs 100% better. No points to bounce at high RPM, engine pulls harder and revs higher than it did with either the points or the Crane system, AND it was less expensive & easier to install. as for the benefits of Crane or Pertronix, and/or MSD system, I'd suggest checking out the websites for Crane and Pertronix for a comprehesive list of the claims made by the manufacturers and compare that to the opinions you get here and elsewhere.
  3. HeHe, I got dinged for the Mitsu's fuel cap not sealing correctly also. I had no idea they would check something like that.
  4. and your post is a case in point. If you don't like another persons Z related post, why not STFU? Sorry if some of us displease you, afterall the site is all about you. :stupid:
  5. yeah, I think you're right. The friggin link is dead again. another new bug in the system. too bad. in cases like this a list of search results can really help someone find a lot of information.
  6. Pulling the air filter may work where you are, but it may not. In CA your vehicle must be eqipped with a proper airfilter and any other equipment that came on the car. I recently had a similar experience at a "Test Only" CA Smog Test facility with an '81 Mitsubishi.
  7. YES! There are nuggets of info in many of the threads, and, IMO NONE of the threads covered ALL of the info I'd want to know about the subject.:pirate:
  8. Barnum it wasn't! It was said by poor old Mr. David Hannum who never gets proper credit for his statement. SO, with apologies to Paul Harvey, HERE'S the rest of the story.
  9. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/search.php?searchid=164607 Thanks for the heads up, Steve. I'm trying it again, and I just used the link and it worked for me "now". Of course I did the same thing when I posted the previous times, but for some reason the links seem to DIE. Anyway, all anyone needs to do is use "Honda" and "blower" as search terms and 13 threads pop up. Most (but not all) of them have nuggets of info that will help a 240Z owner.
  10. I believe that is one in the search I was trying to post. Thanks. This is what I meant to post http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/search.php?searchid=164401

  13. I agree with you Zthing, but I'll bet he finds someone who will (over)pay it.
  14. I'd be concerned with the 35 y.o. seatbelt webbing first, then the buckles. The webbing deteriorates from exposure to UV and is probably much weaker than it should be to save your life. Someone ( months ago) posted a link to a company that can recreate the webbing/stitching. From the looks of the buckles, stripping the old paint and application of a modern, durable paint would really spiff them up.
  15. the reason the 70-71 owners need to contact MSA is tha the early cars got steering knuckles that require tierod ends with a smaller diameter "post". They are not "shorter". I don't believe that the tierod ends to fit those early knuckles are available anymore. Humbles book explains the difference IIRC
  16. Hard to tell exactly, but the one on the blue background looks substantiallly the same as the one in the first pic that you posted (except for the silver accents).
  17. very late 71, 72, 73, and EARLY 74. Late 260Z & 280Z had a completely different design.
  18. not sure if we are talking 240Zs or another model, but there was NO "factory" undercoating on 240Zs sold in the USA. N O N E ! ! Zip. Nadda. Painted metal was what you got from the "factory" if you bought one in the USA. DEALERS added undercoating (of varying quality) just like they added many other things like aluminum wheels, vinyl tops, mirrors, stereos, yadda, yadda, yadda to many of the cars before they hit the sales lot. FWIW, according to the Tech Rep at my regional POR distributor; the POR15 is sensitive to UV in relation to it's appearance and will become mottled over time, but UV has no effect on it's protective capabilities. But, that's enough of a reason for me to topcoat it with POR Chassis-Coat Black.

I'm fairly sure it was the 1st gen rx7 seats that make you sit "high" (not low).

you'll sit higher in the RX7 seats from what I hear. talked to a guy at the MSA show that had them in a 240. He said that if he was any taller than 5' 10" that his head would be bouncing off the roof as he drove the car. No way he could wear a racing helmet in the car either.
  21. OK, Eric does have some new parts. However, in viewing his site, I didn't see any new diff mounts which is what Steve asked about. I've bought items from Eric for many years too. He's a good guy with lots of Z info/knowledge. JEEZ, take a Midol. You're wrapped a bit tight today. btw, so was every other person who replied trying to help Steve, including me.
  22. sure they would. Thats the deal. he's looking for EARLY cylinders, for a car made before 6/72. Those cylinders are the expensive, hard to find ones. The cylinders for cars made AFTER 6/72 are the cheaper (and more available) ones. BTW, nice hat in your avatar!
  23. $27 RWC's will end up being thew WRONG ones for an early 72. Been There, Done That.... several times I was told they had the right ones, but even though the box had the correct p/n printed on it, EVERYTIME the cylinder in the box was the post 6/72 version as xray said, $57 is a bargain. I'd bite the bullet & get it. There is only one alternative, replace the brake bridge tubes with the ones for a post 6/72 240Z so you could use the cheap RWC's. Of course only one of the two tubes is available, the other is NLA; so you'd have to custom bend that one. More trouble than it would be worth IMO
  24. He has "used" parts. Eric doesn't have "new" parts.
