Spouse joke
A guy walks into a bar and sits down. The bartender calls him over and says hey buddy do you want to have the best sex of your life? The guy says sure . So he goes into the back room like the bartender says and sees a dog sitting there. Puzzeled he returns to the bar and figures it must be some kind of bad joke. But the bartender persists and he finally goes back with the dog. Twenty minutes later he returns exhausted with a big smile and insists on buying the dog. When he gets home he instructs the dog to never leave the kitchen . Every day as the wife prepares the meals the dog just watches her every move. Finally after about a week she tells her husband the dog is making her nervous and wants to know why it watches her every move in the kitchen. The husband replies it's very simple , when the dog learns how to cook you're out of here.

Screen Names - Where Do They Come From?
Mine is what I do .M.R.I. tech. for a radiology group . The sad thing is most of the people I work with didn't know what a datsun is. May change the avatar but that dog never left my side during the entire time I worked on the car.

Under dash hoses
I was able to replace 1 vent hose with shop vac hose but can't find 2" hose for the ac which are either cracked or missing. Tried plummbing supply and big box. It's amazing what else you can find when all I wanted to do was see where the green and white wire went! Any ideas for hoses welcome. thanks

Testing for voltage
Hopfully not too many more by me! For some reason my old zx seemed easier than this 1977 Z. I do have the schematics , but when it looks like the bomb squad went in and cut every blue and red wire in sight I may as well have my color blind lab in there with me tracing wires.

Testing for voltage
Took the dash apart this am.( clock had to come out anyway). Car should be surrounded with yellow crime scene tape. Duct work not hooked up wires cut or spliced wtih no logic whatsoever. This is gonna take awhile......

Testing for voltage
My dome, glove box and clock do not work, I tested the switches for continuity and all were good along with the fuse. I'm not too good with the multimeter yet and I need to know the best or anyway to test for power.I'm not getting any reading on the meter. So either no power or improper testing. I also assume all are on the same circuit. Thanks

Windshield Glass -- foggy
When polishing any type of glass Heat is the thing to worry about, A windshield is 2 pieces of .125 glass laminated together. I does not take much to generate enough heat to crack it. IMHO.

leave body panels off to paint?
For what it's worth I did coat the inside of the rockers before welding, and after I filled a 20cc syringe with rust mort and shot into the holes where I drilled for the scuff plate. I hope this coats any oxidation from the welding .Time will tell if it works.

Steering coupler
Thanks everyone. I like the idea of using cord to tie the wheel in place! Nothing better than advice from those who've been there done that.

Steering coupler
My steering is a little vague (1977 coupe )so Im going to start at the coupler and go from there. Do I just un-bolt the coupler itselfe or do any other componets have to come off such as the u joint or lower rod? It's not really covered well in the manual I have. Thanks.

20+ years waiting
After seven months for a daily driver restoration I got to take the first drive.(pics in gallery) It was as great as I last remembered in my old Z. My 30 mph paint job even turned a few heads on the way to gas up! My wife gave me the o.k. to get another if I want .I would like to start one without as much hidden damage next time. But I could not have done it without the help of alot of the people on this site who took the time to answer questions so I could keep going. Thanks Jim.
- Just painted
- re-assembly

Almost finished painting
I uploaded the pics to the gallery. Just remember it's my 1st attempt at bodywork and paint. I'll post more after it's buffed out .That will be when I find insurance so I can leave the driveway.

Almost finished painting
I won't get the pictures back from being developed for a few more days. I think I'll ask for a digital this christmass! The color is close to the factory light blue metalic . It probably looks best at about 30mph . Next year I hope to get it down to about 15 mph.

Wet sanding is completed, just need to get it buffed out. Paint job is o.k. for first try but next year a repaint is in order with a color closer to the one blitzkraig has.

Almost finished painting
Thanks for the instructions Will. I plan on sanding it this weekend. You can bet I'll never do that again ! This has been quite a learning experience for the first paint job. I'll post pics when finished.

Almost finished painting
Well the scratch looks to be to the color coat . I may attempt a repair before I sand down the entire panel first. The question I have is how to prepare the cured clear coat surface for more clearcoat on top of it?
-
Almost finished painting
Well I was on the fourth(final) coat of clear and dirt or somthing got on the door. So stupidly I try to fix it. Needless to say it's back to primer. In the process I knocked the shop light into the perfect rear quarter panel but looks to only have gotten the clear. ? is can I scuff the rear quarter with ?1500 grit and re-shoot clear , or is that one going back to primer also?
