The floor jack finally gave up so time to shop. I'm thinking a 1.5 ton would do it since the Z32 is the heaviest of the bunch. Also lots of variation in price between brands of the same capacity. Any advice on which ones to stay away from and would a 1.5 ton be enough in anyones experience?

The financial breaking point in purchasing most cars is the price you paid. The best thing you can do is enjoy the Z and not look at the parts receipts or add them to what you paid. To justify my Z to myself financially I just read Will's post and I'm driving a bargain.
  3. 47 and shaky at best. The dog and I are turning grey at the same time.
  4. I should be able to bring myZ32 and hope to meet you there. The S30 is back under construction.

Thanks DR ,I just got the Eastwood catalog yesterday and will look into it. Unfortunately Tabco sent the Rt instead of LT side patch so I had to order another but I will do both now.

I belive thats called the sight shield. I left the gap after removing and welding to repair rust so no moisture collects where it meets the body.

    Thanks Will.

The door and fender patch panels arrived the other day and I have a couple of questions. Should I overlap them using the flange or cut flush and butt weld. My concern with the flange is rust forming between the inside of the flange on the new metal and the old sheet metal of the door. I don't see how to treat this area after welding other than seam sealer applied to the joint afterward. Thanks
  10. The area in the attachment where I have the dogleg cut out. I did have some other problems back there where the rocker continues back behind the dogleg. Also check the lower part of wheel well at the back of the dogleg where the line points to. Sorry I didn't have a better picture of that area .Hope this helps.
  11. Fixing the dogleg isin't too bad .I would be more concerned about what lurks behind it at the back end of the rocker that could give you trouble. Good luck

My neighbor and another friend work 3rd shift there. I'll probably pass you going the other way on 110 in the morning when I go to our Stratford office. Congrtulations on your new career!
  13. I have a 77 280 but things should be pretty close as far as replacement of strut inserts. I did remove the entire assembly when replacing mine and it wasn't too bad being a novice.Hit all the bolts with a rust penatrant and let it soak in first. You may also see what else you may want to replace before you start and wait for those parts and do it all at once. You can do a search on thrush bearings and insulators on the 240 to give you an idea of what should need replacing. Fighting "while I'm at it " will be the toughest part.

I have started looking for a set of wheels from a 1982-83 ZX turbo if anyone knows of any for sale. I missed out on a set from ebay recently and don't see them around too often. Thanks Jim
  16. Please tell me the ad is written by a 20 something female (no offense). If it is a guy and named the Z scarlett and can't learn stick he needs to look at the big picture. The unfortunate side is someone may purchase an unsafe Z due to guessing in the description of what might be wrong.

I keep my 77Z in one of those portable garages . Worth the investment and cost was about the same as the cover for the Z32 which must brave the elements. When I want to do some work I fire up the kerosene heater outside and point it at the opening which allows me to accomplish something during winter.

Couldn't find one so if anyone has a picture of the rear brake shoes for a 77installed please post it for me. The new shoes don't match the old and the old don't seem to match the FSM picture. Thanks

There are some previous threads on this exact topic which were very helpful .A few posts mention the reverse threads on the tie rod ends also. Just search ball joint and it's all there .

I ordered the wide view white ones BA9s-w . They have a slight blue tint compared to the regular bulbs and looks better in my opinion. I just have to find a way to connect them so it dosn't look like a P.O. bastardized job.

I took a spare clock and drilled another LED socket opposite to the other bulb socket mounted in the factory location. I also had taken out the green lens so they match. The attachment does not do it justice but you can see the difference in the amount of light emitted. I don't have a spare speedo/tach to experiment on but I may try it when I have the dash out.

Thanks, I'll try finding the felt and cut my own as you suggested.I don't want to chance having the pivots dry out. I routed the drains as done in Escalon's post down behind the inner fender exiting behind the wheel. You can't see them unless you really look ,and no more debris on top of the new rockers. The mice came up the drain tube and built the nest right on top where the cowl drains out.Resourceful little guys I must say. Add blocking those to my winterize list.

Today when I was checking the Z I found mice under the cowl. I forgot to block the drain tubes I installed so they climbed up and set up house. So while in there why not remove the wiper linkage and clean it up.Now I know why they didn't work so well.Job went well except the only part I can't find is a nylon washer to replace the felt ones under the pivots.Would those battery synthetic washers work for that?

Dave I ordered them this morning. Thanks for sharing your research.
