I just cant get windshield on, please advice
You may need a hook tool to finish seating the gasket as your buddy pushes down. Make sure to remove the metal trim piece at the front edge of the dash with the 6 or so screws or it may not seat at the bottom. Best to start at the bottom and pull the rope 6" on one side at a time than the other side. Be careful at the corners.

Odd...Porche 280-Z found in Florida
Could be a scam. Sounds too good to be real.

Spook mounting
Sort of related. On the air dam I installed on my 280 I bought rubber faucet washers drilled them out and installed them between where the fiberglass and metal touch.

Jacking up the car for underbody work
When I work with wheels off the ground I use 4 , 6' lengths of 4x4 lumber. I place them across the frame rails and back that up with jackstands . I don't trust just the jackstands when you are pulling the Z laterally while trying to break a bolt loose.

Paul Newman has Passed Away
Search the Connecticut Post . It's the local paper for Fairfield county and has some articles about his acting and racing.

Is your Z 'done'? Post here, if so.
Mine reached the point where I could paint the car and be happy with it where it was . Of course it could always use more but I would not take this car any further in the process . It is what it is .

Voltage Regulator
The one thing I overlooked was to clean the connector to the VR and there was alot of corrosion in there. I also cleaned the contacts in the VR and now it seems much better. Thanks, Jim

Voltage Regulator
Thanks, I'll check the battery voltage at 2500 RPM tomorrow . Jim

Voltage Regulator
When my 77 idles the voltmeter reads 13V~14V . If I am running about 2500RPM and only the radio on it jumps to 16V . If I turn on the fan or lights then it goes back to 13V~14V. I checked the grounds and cleaned the contacts in the VR . Is that normal or is the VR shot? Thanks, Jim

Gauge wanted
I like the infinity colors but I could not go too dark as the body is not perfect . I choose from a BMW book and tried to get somwhere between the sliver and graphite. As Stephen and you said a clear improvement and I am not disapointed ,I was just expecting a few shades darker . I think you hit on it with platinum being the inbetween and it will look good on your Z. On the gauges with the led's I took out the green lenses in the back of the housing also . Just test them out before you install them to make sure you like it .Jim

Gauge wanted
Yes, suprisingly I got one close to home but I thank you for the offer . When I had my gauges out I replaced the stock bulbs with LED's and like them better. And as far as the silver paint goes I can't help but think he forgot to add black to deepen the silver as it's too close to the stock color. Jim

Dashboard Removal (Help!)
From memory but this should get you there . First I usually take off the steering wheel and drop the steering colum down . Disconnect the speedo cable then clean wounds and apply bandaids .The console is next thing to go Then disconnect the harness under the glove box . (mark any connection and screws you take out). There is the panel against the windshield with about 4 screws. Take those out and you will see about 6~8 bolts holding it to the firewall. On each side in the lower corners towards the face of the dash is another bolt . Remove the vent panel in the center also so you can get to the ducts . While you are at it check the mode door and linkage for the heater/ac .. vacuum lines....light bulbs..... Jim

My civic's color is called galaxy grey and holds the dirt well in the winter months . I didn't want the Z too dark due to body flaws but a couple shades wouldn't have hurt . For the price and just the fact he would paint it was all I can ask. Jim

Zero Z that is just the stock filler like Arne said . Yes she is happy to see it being finished . She has been very supportive of my addiction to the Z car especially since I had to sell my 82 ZX when we got married . Or she knows it will get me out of the house more! I just need to get it back together for a Z show on the 19th . Jim

New 1978 280Z owner needs your advise!
As far as ebay goes..get in line . The heater problem is most probably caused by a vacuum leak in the tubing. I attached a couple of pictures of the manifold where the lines attach. Check the mode door acuator and the linkage to the lower vents also . A hand vacuum pump and an FSM helps to trouble shoot leaks . I find it easier to just pull the console and dash out to get to everything . Jim

searching the net for new projects....
I would check with the foriegn repair shops. A friend of mine used to own one years ago . Always had an inventory of older sports cars sitting out back . He said the owners had walked away from them because it cost too much to fix . Thought of it because the local and only foriegn repair shop in the area usually has many cars of various makes in a fenced in area that have been sitting for awhile . Jim
