Hey Daniel, the 280ZX motor has a different flange on the exhaust manifold where the first exhaust pipe bolts on. You'll have to have an exhaust shop fix that. You could get a down pipe from VB or Motorsport and have the shop tie that in to the 240Z exhaust. Unless you're going to run headers, then you'll need exhaust all the way back. The bigger engine in the 240Z really wakes the car up. The stock motor has more torque at low RPM's but doesnt wind out as good as the 240Z motor. But it can made to run really well with mods when you can afford them! Chris

    You said "xes". Chris
  4. The inner pivots on my front control arms squeak just a little but the friggin exhaust is so loud you hardly hear it except when backing out of the garage. :stupid: Chris
  5. Ditto, sounds like the bushings didn't get lubed or not enough. You'll have to remove them to lube them. Chris

What do I do? Jack of all trades, master of none. Lately it seems fatherhood (nine month old) keeps me busy! Wouldnt trade it though. Chris

Hey Scott, I would avoid Midwest Z for the time being. They seem to be out of business at the moment. How about Victoria British? I've bought some hard lines from them. Local clutch and brake shop might be able to help you. My local shop will make anything if you have a sample. FWIW Chris

Hey Chris, if I lived by you, I'd be over in a minute. Sounds like my kind of fun. Twisted yes, but still fun. Much luck to you. Envious, Chris

Here's a shot of my 72 with the twin valves. It looks like the main line from the front goes to the valve with two ports and then over to the "tee" which feeds each rear wheel. I always assumed the two port valve was a "proportioning" but now I dont know. I also thought the one below the master cylinder was the "proportioning" valve. Chris
  10. Hey Michael, that looks interesting. Did you ask the seller about it? Should have the publisher in the front couple of pages. Chris

Now if that car had the C6 Vette rear end and weighed 2600 pounds I'd be all over it. Chris
  12. Air compressor with good size tank. Rubber nippled air gun to seal tight to the line. Or mobile air bubble but you'll have to have a compressor to refill it. Chris
  13. Hey Will, put me down for a set also. Chris

Sounds like Carl hit it on the head. Re-balance wheels. Weight fell off my car once, shook like a washing machine on spin cycle! Chris

My 72 with the L28 is notorious for showing good oil pressure(on the gauge) for about 30 minutes after startup then slowly decreasing. I'm sure its got something to do with a combination of the sending unit being not all that accurate (new Nissan part when L28 went in) and the oil changing its physical properties as it absorbs more and more heat. Could the constant voltage through the gauge cause some drop off in the reading over time? The windings in the gauge itself have to be degraded on a 32 year old car. FWIW Chris

Hey Eric, this a bad way to check things. With the engine idling, take the oil fill cap off and look in with a flash light, you should see oil squirting out lubing the rocker arm cam contact area. I have a secondary mechanical oil pressure gauge plumbed in at the electric pressure sender on my 73. It sounds to me like your sending unit is going bad. Much luck, Chris
  19. Sorry to hear about your troubles, but how does it sound? I have a version of twice pipes on my 73 and its loud and resonates badly around 2700 RPM. It does get lots of compliments on the sound though. Ferrari-like. Chris
  20. Very good info Carl, that problem had never crossed my mind. Chris
  21. Hey Michael, when you push the throttle down, the engine increases speed but the car doesnt go faster. You are actually slipping the flywheel against the friction disc of the clutch pack. They are not mated and cant transfer the rotation of the engine to the transmission. The tach needle will climb in a non proportionate amount compared to the speedo. Anyone else have anything else? Chris

Thank you all very much, I now have another project on the to-do list!! The tips are great!! Chris
  23. I dont care what they're called, they're mine, paid for and kick arse. And when the 400 horse L28ET goes into the 72, they better look out. Chris

I don't know of any books for Z carbs, but www.ztherapy.com can get you parts and videos to show you how to fix them and tune them. Good Luck, Chris
