  1. I hope Alan will respond to this, but in the meantime, google "Nissan Skyline" and have yourself some good reading. You are correct though, they are legendary. Chris A.
  2. No problem Alan. I'd like to see a JJ code sometime (on my Xterra). Beautiful wheels for a beautiful car, thanks for the pictures. Chris A.
  3. J, JJ, K, JK, B, P and D : Tyre bead profiles / rim contour designations. "No, my keyboard letters weren't stuck down when I typed this. The letter that typically sits between the rim width and diameter figures stamped on the wheel, and indicates the physical shape of the wheel where the tyre bead meets it. Like so many topics, the answer as to which letter represents which profile is a long and complicated one. Common wisdom has it that the letter represents the shape. ie. "J" means the bead profile is the shape of the letter "J". Not so, although "J" is the most common profile identifier. 4x4 vehicles often have "JJ" wheels. Jaguar vehicles (especially older ones) have "K" profile wheels. Some of the very old VW Beetles had "P" and "B" profile wheels. For example, the "J" code makes up the "Rim Contour" and specifies rim contour dimensions in a single category of rims called "Code 10 to 26 on 5deg. Drop-Centre Rims".

Holy Cow Mark, that's a pretty picture! Sorry, back to the splash pans. Chris A.

Welcome Alex, Good luck in your search for a Z. Yes, 240's and 260's are more rare than 280's. The 260 being more rare due to a short production span. If I had to guess, I'd say finding a 280Z in your area will probably be easier than the older models. Take your time, and find the car that's just right for you. Chris A.
  6. The fact that its even here is the most valuable to me.
  7. Well, surprise surprise. The owner (Mike) just called and offered to sell me the car for $6000. Claims that was his reserve. Said he had a two phone calls yesterday. One said he'd pay $5000 and the other said he'd pay $6000. Said he wanted me to have first shot at it. I declined as I have enough irons in the fire as it is. So maybe whoever offered him the $6000 will get the car. Lets hope so and maybe its a member here. FWIW, Chris A.
  8. I had planned on going to see it but had other commitments I had to take care of. I told the guy he wouldnt sell it for his reserve based on his pictures and description. But because Burt told him what it was worth, he didn't really care about the content in the auction. He said a true Z person would appreciate it. Guess I'm not a true Z person. FWIW, Chris A.

Eric, I did find another equivalent to the C828 transistor. It's NTE Electronics NTE229 transistor. But they are based in New Jersey USA so that might not help the folks down under. I buy a lot of stuff from www.mouser.com and they have a great cross reference system. Again, thanks for the article. Chris A.

Hi Eric, I am so glad you posted this. I've got one of the Citizen calendar clocks that doesnt work and its driven by the same circuit board as in your article. Thanks VERY much for this, I am off to the electronics store. Chris A.
  12. Good eye there Todd. Looks likes its hanging in the spot where the fresh air duct would be attached to the inner fender. Chris A.
  13. You can get an Amen there Tom. Chris A.
  14. Hi Bob, I told him as much on the phone. He didnt seem to care. FWIW, Chris A.
  15. I've got questions also. Blue tank looks to be a coolant recovery system...just guessing. Look at these two pictures. 1) Red cable coming out of fender. What is that? 2) Black hose appears to be plumbed right into top radiator tank.
  16. Just how rusty was it?
  17. Hi Jared, Well, I got some parts off a 1976 280Z 2+2 this afternoon. Man, I've seen some rusty Z's but this one took the prize! What a bucket. I'm a little concerned that the parts I got are not the same as yours. Here are two pictures and you decide if you want them or not. PM me your address, no P.O. Box, I use UPS. Chris A.
  18. Hi Mark, Welcome to the club officially. From what I've heard from Ron Carter and John Coffey (sp?) you've got some nice cars. Regards, Chris A.
  19. If you're asking me, I have no idea.....yet. Plan to go look at it before auction ends on Sunday I believe. Owner states is was owned by a UP railroad guy who swears its original mileage. We'll see. Chris A.
  20. Hi Jared, Salvage yard 26 miles from me called just now, said they have one 76 left. So I will go take a look tomorrow afternoon for you. Cross your fingers. Chris A.
  21. Okay, I called the guy, he just called me back. First: He knows Burt Diamond who is a member here (cardogman1). We all know about Burt's car and his views on Z cars. Burt has told this guy Mike what this car is potentially worth. (In Burt's opinion). The serial number is 6375 with a build date of 6 of 1970. The owner traded a boat and $1250 for the car a couple years ago. It has been garaged and tarped most of its life he told me. He said repeatedly in our conversation that the car is "really nice". No major body rot that he can see. Talked about the floor boards looking good and still painted yellow. Jute material still intact. Original spare tire still in back. Said when you open the hood and look down along the frame rails that there is no damage or rust and its still painted yellow. He did mention that his pictures werent really that good. Said paint is faded and oxidized but would buff out. Claims he owns two detail shops so he left the car as is to not deceive anyone. He knows the car has a few little problems. But again, overall he thinks its a really nice car. He has gotten lots of calls and questions and is sure he will sell the car. I told him I'd buy it outside of eBay and he wants NO LESS THAN $8,000 for it. This is what Burt and some other guy told him it was worth. He drove it from Fremont Nebraska into Omaha today and said it ran great. I'm trying to find time Saturday to go look at it. FWIW, Chris A.
  22. That's about 50 miles from me. I guess I'll try and go see it. Its in NEbraska not NEw England by the way. 402 area code numbers in the auction prove its Nebraska. I'm going to call the guy and get a VIN number and try and arrange a meet. I will try and get more pictures. Chris A.
  23. Hey Jared, Well, I've got bad news. My local salvage yard crushed all 4 280Z's this spring. They were still at the yard last summer. The guy in charge said they just werent making any money off them anymore and needed the room for different inventory. They had one 280ZX left and it had the updated fuel rail system. I hope Z Barn or someone else can come through for you. I've got a call in at two salvage yards in Omaha so it might still happen. Sorry. Chris A.
  24. Luke, Well, $700 for that is a pretty good deal to me. But, get under the car. Check the floorpans, the frame rails from the radiator back to the underside of the seats. Check up under the battery box. You really want to give this thing the exam of its life for rust. Because they rust like mad in the wrong environment. Any year S30 Z is a good year in my opinion as long as its not rusted beyond reasonable repair expense. Parts are available but you will have to find them new or used. Some things are no longer available new but there are plenty of sources for used stuff. Its been repainted of course and may need it again. But that's down the road for you if you get it. I'd love the chance to have it myself. Dont hesitate to ask more questions and search the archives also. Good luck, Chris A.
