Need Advice, Worth Restoring?
Al, if you can get a really good look at the underside, and it looks good, go for it. #248 is worth saving. But as already said, it will take money. If its cheap, snatch it up and get another parts car that has good body sections that you need. From the pictures you posted the rails inside the engine bay looked pretty good to me. And I've seen a lot worse repaired and driven. If its going to be a hobby car for you, I say do it. Be patient and take your time in the restoration process. But most of all have fun! Best wishes, Chris A.

Need Advice, Worth Restoring?
Hi Al, Well......yes it could be restored. For a lot of money. Is it worth it? Depends on just how low of a serial numbered car it is. Do you know the VIN number? If all the parts are there and its below #1000 VIN, I personally would do it for the right price. Much luck in your search. Chris A.

need to know production date
Hi Dan, Member rdefabri here has serial number 73667 with a build date of 3/72. So that should narrow it down a little for you. Sorry I can't be more specific. Chris A.

radiator compatability
Hi Mike, Get one from any 280Z. 75 to 78. The 240Z radiator is smaller in height and probably not a good replacement anyway due to age. Chris A.

240Z turbo question
Hi Chris, You might want to try www.hybridz.org. They have a huge amount of info on engine modifications. Turbocharging the L24E in the Maxima will take some money that might be beyond your budget. Call the local salvage yards and price a 280ZX Turbo engine. If its within your budget, a swap sounds like fun. A sleeper turbo Maxima could be fun. Good luck, Chris A.

New Headlights - Best Options?
Hi Stephen, Here's what I put on the 72 I used to have. They were extremely bright when used with the relay upgrade. http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=23781&langId=-1 I used Painless Wiring Headlight Relay kit #30816 - For 9004 and 9007 halogen bulbs. Very painless (pun intended!). Chris A.

Z Car's of Nebraska Show and Barbeque
Thanks for looking at the pics DZR, yeah it was a blast furnace today. I put sunscreen on my feet even! We normally have about 10 S30's at a ZONE (Z's of Nebraska) event so I'm not sure where they were. Holiday plans elsewhere I'll bet. Even the contingent of 280ZX's were missing today. Oh well, more burgers and brew for me!! We actually had 2 G35's today. I guess because the drivetrain is the same as a 350Z they think its a Z. Whatever!! :stupid: I'm sure the 350 and the G and fast and comfortable but I just don't care for their looks. The S30 is where it's at for me! Chris A.

? First start in a long time
Hi Eric, Sounds like you're going to have my kind of fun! If it were me, I would gently try and remove the drain plugs from the fuel tanks. Drain them out the best you can. If the one car has really sat non-running for 15 years, its fuel tank is full of crap. If you have time I would take both tanks out and have a radiator shop boil them out. If you're just looking to get them running I would run a gas line from the fuel pump into a gas can. That way you get clean fuel right off the start. Besides checking the fluids, I'd take the rubber fuel lines off the steel fuel rails above the carbs and blow some carb cleaner through there as well. There are little filters in the banjo fittings at each carb as well. They may need cleaned. Some people omit them, I wouldn't. You seem to have the basics covered. Fuel clogging due to rust and gunk in the tanks and lines are a big problem with neglected Z cars. Make sure the carb throttle shafts swing freely. Hate to see a stuck linkage cause the motor to redline upon first startup. Shoot all the linkage with carb cleaner and maybe a little penetrating fluid. There are two little pins on the undersides of the carbs. Lift them up with your finger and see if you feel resistance. This would be the carb piston lifting. You can feel and sometimes hear if they move up and down with the lift pin. You could remove the air cleaner cover and lift the pistons with your finger also. If you happen to have a model with the electric fuel pump by the tank on the right side of the car, there is a filter in the bottom of the pump's canister. It will most likely be full of crud as well. Mine was! Good luck and have fun! Chris A.

Not all Spark Plug Wires are the Same!
Courtesy Nissan if you don't mind ordering from Texas. They always seem to have it and its OEM Nissan parts. Perfect fit every time. For my Z or 240SX or Xterra. Seems like their website is down at the moment. They update it daily. FWIW, Chris A.

New book?
Hi Carl, No disrespect intended here, but since it is a "Manga" that is what I found amusing. I realize its a simplified story of the whole process. I'm sure there are bits that are completely factual and bits that have been a bit "touched up" if you will. But make no mistake, I give it far more value than you might think. Having lost my father last year, the two images I posted are rather sentimental for me as its exactly how I was introduced to the Z so many years ago. I was with my Dad. We saw a new Z on the dealer lot getting washed one summer morning when he and I were going to his job. I was hooked and the hook is still lodged. We were even in a Chevy Van like the two in the manga. FWIW, Chris A.
