Well, let me see, here is the entire Group 6 grid from Road America's site and it lists every car. All listed as DNS (did not start) due to red flag at start of race and race not restarted. I don't seem to see an AMX in this list. Do any of you? Looks to be car #86 driven by Bruce Leven which as stated is a Corvette. Sorry to rain on the AMX parade. If you look at ALL the pics of this car you'll notice the funky hood in one pic, and the curvature of the door sill is classic Corvette. Chris

That's a picture of the 1971 Safari Rally car. Not a stock Datsun. The bag is not OEM. The switches are most likely for auxillary lights but I'm just guessing. I think he said it was the Safari car in the P.S. paragraph of his post. Chris

Great job Mark. I'll bet when the temps equalize, you will have ZERO problems. And you'll have the satisfaction of knowing the bearing is seated all the way nice and square in the bore. Congrats! You just made us a Tech Article!! Chris

I've never done it on a Z but many times on other vehicles. I would suggest if your car has a receiver/drier you change it. It will be your best defense against contaminating the new R134 charge with remnants of the old R12 oil and charge. I might also recommend removing the compressor and draining as much of the R12 oil out that you can. Then put in the recommended amount of R134 compressor oil. Can you tell us what's in the Castrol kit. I'm curious. Much luck, Chris

I went through the microfiche looking at all the interior panels. I agree that they are probably the tool cubby liners. My 73 has them, they are all tucked in there nice and neat and glued to the metal. It looks like they are one piece and have been cut in a specific pattern and folded to fit in the opening and then unfolded and stuck to the sheet metal. I pried a little on one and she's stuck pretty good so I left it alone. Maybe someone has one out of their car and can shoot a pic of it. Chris

Hi Mark and Lance, The freezing method is a tried and true method. I'm a little worried about condensation forming on the bearing after its removed from the freezer. If you get it driven into the hub, maybe shoot it with some water dispersement spray of some kind, WD40 or whatever. To remove any possible water contamination. Just a thought. As hot as it is here today, it would condense instantly!! I realize the amount of water would be small, but I seem to contaminate bearings at will!! FWIW, Chris

Hi Mark, I'd have to agree with you on the bearings and the hub. Don't normally see problems with OEM parts. Do you have any valve grinding compound? The blue paste stuff? You could put some on the bearing and set it into the hub bore and the material transfer might tell you if the hub is out of round. Do you remember if the old bearing came out easy and left any scoring in the hub? I'm at a loss as to helping you get that bearing in. I think the freezing is the best bet so far. Chris

Hi Mark, hey where did you get the bearing? I once got some at Carquest and they were a little out of tolerance. You're on the right track with the sandpaper and scotchbrite. I suspected an out of round housing right off the bat. What are you using to seat the bearing? I went and paid good money for a bearing/race installer set. It really helps distribute the force evenly around the entire bearing. Much luck to you, Chris
