  1. Hey Andrew, good luck with the machine work. I found one of the best tools I own is a metric thread chaser/cleaner set. I cleaned every hole on the block and the head and blew them out with compressed air. I know for sure that the bolts will go in nice and come out nice later if needed. A little anti-seize on your studs when you reassemble things will work wonders also. Much luck, Chris

    Hey Garry, Mike's right as far as I can tell. My 73 had it but not now. Found the connections under the hood taped off. My car doesnt have the electric pump anymore either and again the connections are taped off and tucked in with the rear main harness. Looks like a factory job as the tape is blue like the tape I've found in the dash wiring. Chris

    Hey Garry, is your car an automatic? My 73 manual tranny car only has the one wire sensor. I'll look at my wiring diagram and see if I can help you. I thought auto tranny cars had some kind of thermo switch to advance/retard the timing on dual point distributors. But my car has been converted back to a 1971 induction system. So most of the 73 parts have been removed. I'll check it when I get home later and let you know tomorrow morning. Chris

  7. As Ed stated, this is ultimately the best solution if you can afford it. Some machine shops will really gouge a guy, some wont. If you are skilled with a tap, mount the head plumb in a good drill press. Find the next size up stud that will fit in your already enlarged hole and drill and tap the head so you dont need a helicoil. Slow and steady when drilling aluminum. High speed is not what you want. I had access to better quality tools and did two holes this way on my E31 head. Worked good, no leaks. Much luck, Chris
  8. Yeah, I went to high school with this son of a heart surgeon, the kid drove a black 911 (no turbo). Whoopdi friggin doo!! He trashed the car simply because he coulndt drive a stick to save his A_S!! :stupid: By the end of senior year he was driving a Chevy Suburban with a lift kit and big exhaust.   13. When I was 16 I had a 310 and a 240Z. The 310 got me to work so I could make money for the Z. So I can relate to having a Z as a first car (sort of). I also had a 1979 280ZX for a short while at 18. We are all not insulting you on your car choice. Its simply a matter of personal preference. Yes the ZX has a great drivetrain but its more luxury than sport. Being heavier its not as quick nor agile but if you have wads of money to throw at it, it could be. I liked the ZX for longer distance driving because it was quieter and softer sprung. But again, its personal choice. I totalled the ZX after only 2 months so it never really "sank in" as a favorite car. DRUNK DRIVERS SUCK is about all I'll say regarding the ZX's demise. I do appreciate the car for what it is in the history of "Z's" but the original body style is what does it for me. When you go into the garage and see it sitting there and you smile and feel a nice warm calm wash over you, you know you've got what you want. I'll stop being mushy now!! Most people think I'm off my rocker but if its any Datsun/Nissan, I will appreciate it a lot more than most of the other brands out there. I had a butt ugly 200SX with a wicked little L20B in it. Ugly, but it sure was fun! Its whatever makes you happy!! Chris

    Hey Mark, if you have the new pump draw from your gas can, run a line from the pumps outlet back to your can to make sure the pump is working. If its working then hook the front carb feed on the rail to drain into your gas can. This should tell you you're getting fuel to the carb (front at least).   17. I believe the bracket should be the blue color. Both my L24 and L28 have blue brackets and I know for certain the L28 is all original as far as paint goes. The bolts and nuts on a Z car were originally zinc plated I believe. Maybe 26thZ can get in on this for sure. I thought the yellowing comes with age. I have used an Eastwood zinc plating kit and it works well. Much Luck, Chris

We all can appreciate that "special" section of our favorite road but lets be responsible and not put ourselves or others and especially our cars (which we all claim to love so much) at risk.     While using a cutting torch on a parts car one day...a hot piece of slag dropped on my foot, burned through my leather boot, my sock and right into my foot. :stupid: I have never taken off a shoe and sock faster! I now have a really ugly scar from the wicked burn. DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!! Chris

  23. Mack Truck part number 54mt314dp88 speedo cable--running right now on my 72 Z. $14.75 current price. Worked for last 4 years. Couldnt believe it mated to speedo head and drive on tranny. FWIW Chris P.S. Its 7.3 feet long but you can get shorter ones.

    Hey Hunter, you're kind of limited if you stick with a wheel with zero or almost zero offset. But, if you get a set of wheel adapter spacers from MSA or Modern Motorsports, you can run any number of wheels that fit most of the newer imports. I run a set of Konig Monsoons that are 40 offset and with the spacers they just fit under the fender lips. And 16 x 7 is much better than the stock wheel at 14 x 5. Here's a pic of the spacer. Much luck, Chris P.S. Tire Rack is a good site for wheels. They have 86 wheels that will fit a 95 Honda Del Sol. Some look pretty good.
  25. Hi Guys, when the booster on my 72 failed, you could hear vacumn leaking into the drivers compartment at the rod when you stepped on the pedal. And the pedal movement was really stiff. Made the engine stumble when you put your foot on the pedal even the slightest. I got a booster off a 76 280Z at the bone yard but the four mounting studs are set in a bigger square pattern than the 72. Since my 72 is a rusty daily driver I drilled new holes in the firewall and mounted her up. Works good so far. I was told by a local brake supplier that there are no more of the older boosters available. Except from VB and maybe Motorsport. Anyone out there try a rebuild kit in theirs? FWIW Chris
