  1. I am am STILL trying to decide on springs for the 71. Today I found out MSA no longer stocks their own lowering springs. I am intent on getting Non-progressive springs. OK so we had all agreed here last year that the Tockicos are progressive, even though they dont look like they are. Now the MSA rep on the phone today insisted the tockicos they have are NOT progressive. He says there are RED. He says the set is # 4PS5020 He quoted the fronts at 140 pounds, the rears at 165. What do yall think? I want decent handling, not bone jarring stiffness, but stiff is ok for my needs. I intend to get tockico HP shocks, probably from the shocks guy on ebay.

Lets not let our site deteriorate into the flaming of the "kiddie" z car sites. Please try to refrain from dissing someone here for whatever reason.

When I first got my 79 ZX , I took her camping a couple of times. This was me and my wife. We could fit a tent, bags, food, cooking equipment and fold up chairs. I was bummed at the time cause I could not fit my telescope to look at the stars. Later I got a VW bus for camping. I know the S30 has a smaller hatch area but I'm sure you could do some camping, especially if it's just one person. I always phantasized about taking a big 2 plus 2 ZX and cutting off the back hatch and extending it out another foot or two to make a sleeping area, then put a big roof rack on it. The camping Z(X)!

Welcome Danny, I am an eastsider from the Spokane area...
  7. Has any low vin number owner noticed this one? I once met a fellow with a 700 serial number car, manufacture date 1/70. In the very back of the hatch compartment, there were no "access doors" to the tailights. My series one car, and every other 240 z Ive seen has those little doors you can remove by taking the screws out. BTW, my car is serial number 20390, manufactured 1/71, it has all the series one attributes listed on Carls site. Except it has two "stops" on the drivers side door, the passenger side has just one stop position. I know the 69 Z's are the most rare, but has anyone considered how many series ones were built in January of 1971?

The ZX is an excellant car. I have one, a 79, as well as a series one 240Z . I hope I never have to get rid of either of them. I just posted some pics of both my Z's. Deadflo

You are doing a good job of giving us just enough info to keep our appetite whetted, and in much suspense.

This is already starting out as a cool story! Creepy crawlers were super popular in the 1960's, every kid I knew had one of those creepy crawler making kits! OK, so we are waiting for more, but I like the idea of installments so we have some stories to look forward to.

When I replaced my original throttle body with a 60 mm aftermarket unit, I had to remove the BCDD from the original and there was no provision to fit it to the new one. I left it connected to the wiring but just left it under the hood where it couldnt fall out. I never noticed any difference in how the car ran. What kind of idle problems are you encountering?
  13. Brian, The europeans are certainly on board with environmental concerns nowadays, but back in the early 1970's it was the USA that led the world in trying to reduce emmissions from cars.
  14. I know when I replaced my stock throttle body on my fuel injected Z, the linkage that connects to the body kept getting "hung up" on the intake manifold. Kind of difficult to describe, but I had to file some of the plastic off one of the ends of the linkage to get it to get past the manifold without sticking. Again I would check the throttle and linkage where it connects to the throttle all the way back to gas pedal. Even check that the pedal isnt getting hung up on the carpet.
  15. Kevin, Sorry I cant be of more help, I am just across the border in the Spokane area. I do know how to set the floats in the dome top carbs, but not the flat tops. Maybe do a search here for flat top floats or something similar? I think the Haynes or Chiltons manual has the proceeedure.

Does anyone know more about the history of these Bob Sharp cars? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bob-Sharp-Racing-GT-33-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-RARE-SURVIVOR_W0QQitemZ250035161602QQihZ015QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Certainly an interesting vehicle, but get a load of those performance claims! I wonder how much HP this car really puts down? It looks like the stock Fuel Injection system! Also look at the absurd claim of how fast this car has gone: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-DATSUN-240-Z-PACE-CAR-Restoration-Project_W0QQitemZ130035812628QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I think the coolest car on ebay at this moment is our own members: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Datsun-240Z-Restored-w-Rebello-Motor-Stunning_W0QQitemZ190039511796QQihZ009QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Talk about a cool ride, I would think this is the fastest of the three cars for sure.

Those fiberglass models were heavily advertised in road and track and other car mags back in the early 70's. They had another body style as well. I never saw one on the street though. But I did see alot of those Bradley GT's in the day. They were all VW powered as I recall.

I know when I put the 60 MM throttle body on my 280Zx , I pulled the BCDD off the old TB and wondered what the hell to do with it. I finally just left it under the hood still hooked up but unattached to the TB. I forgot it was still there till I saw this thread. its been there about 12 years now! I think you can just disconnect it without a problem.
  19. The white one is REAL nice, but note seats have been recovered and the steering wheel is not a series one (has the holes). So what the hell is that blue tank under the hood?

I didnt realize ATF was such light oil. My carbs had it in them when I bought the car and I have always used ATF, but I have never had any signs of hesitation or stumbling. However I will switch over th 20W eventually.

  22. Thats pretty cool how a few Z and ZX are still daily drivers! How many other 70's cars can handle this job with such reliability? My 79 ZX fills the commuter role for much of the year (except winter) as it has for me for the last 16 years. I now have added a 94 Toyota Previa van AWD for other commuting, and use it for my hauling band equipment and camping. As opposed to the truck preference I have utilized vans for my home needs. I now have a 7 acre spread , and am using the Previa for my tasks. If it's hauling something like garbage I use tarps to cover the interior. Previously an 82 Dodge one-ton filled this role. It is a camper van with high top roof. Excellent for camping, and carrying enormous loads. This is the extended legnth Dodge van. The biggest freakin' van they made. HUGE GAS HOG ( for sale!). I like it because it has a bed ,stove and table, but not alot of other creature comforts to fill the interior so you can haul of tons of stuff. But at 12 miles per gallon on the highway, the golden era of this van have come to an eventual close, at least for me. Before that, I used a 72 Volkswagen Bus for my alternate daily driver along with the ZX.

Fuel injected Z's can have high idle issues when large rubber boots connecteing the air flow meter to the intake get cracks, because unmetered air is entering the system. I would look for small cracks in the boot.
