blue interior
Kats you have done a marvelous job on my favorite interior color! I didnt know you had the hand throttle in addition to the choke. Was your car stock that way , or did you add it during your restoration? Do you use the hand throttle? If so for what exactly?

Great deal on 240 & early 260Z Tokico illuminas with springs Brand new! (Ebay)
So I'm curious what other spring combos people may be using with the Illuminas? Tockico claims the spring rates and struts are a matched set, which seems beleivable. I wonder if matching the illuminas with another spring would be a good idea. Also, any guesses on what price to install spings/ shocks would be? I have a real old set of lowering springs (yellow, I think they may be interpart/mulholland, anyone familiar with those) on my 71 right now. Im pretty sure they're sagging, they make noise somtimes and the shocks are shot, bottoming, etc. I am used to the harsh ride of this setup and would like to have a "performance" set up. Am I getting the impression some feel the progressive tockicos may not be the best performance? On the other hand this car is for road only, no track.

Great deal on 240 & early 260Z Tokico illuminas with springs Brand new! (Ebay)
Well I'm checking to see if anyone else has taken advantage of this deal in the last few weeks, and if you've installed them yet. I'm getting real close to picking up the set. He also has great deal on the standard tockicos(non illuminas) withj or without the springs. Any opinions on those ? Are we sure these tockico springs are "progressive" rate?? Any ideas what a tire shop would charge for installation of shocks or springs with shocks?

73 rear bumper on a 71?
How will a 73 rear bumper fit on my 71? I recall the front 73 bumper seems to stick out quite a bit further but what about the rear? I'd like it to look reasonably close to the original 71 style. Would it be easy to mount? Also what is everyones opion about those after market chrome bumper guards?

help with setting timing
I just got an advance timing light, and while I located the notches on the crank pulley, Im not sure which notch corresponds to which timing setting. Can someone help me out? Also what is everyone stting their timing at? I know their is different information for emmissions and non emmsions cars. This is a USA vehicle (a 71) all stock, save exhaust and removal of air pump.

B-J auction Z
I've been watching the Barrett jackson auction tonight (thurs) on Speed vision. It appears they skipped showing the 72 Z on the show. it was lot #408, and it looks like it hit the block during a commercial break, judging by the other numbers that came up on the air.

Crankcase breather?
Are there any downsides to the little filters, as opposed to venting the gas back into the air filter, if you have that option? Also, Tomahawk, you are probably aware that if you pull the hose to the valve cover on an F. I. engine, the engine will die.

Starter issue?
Well, she was tuned up about 3500 miles ago and is running very good. Also the battery is about six months old. I will check the ground, that seems like a logical problem area. Again the problem only reared its head once outdoor temperatures reached 30 degrees or below. If the car has been warmed up though, it starts right away when the key is turned. if its cold there is a delay of 2 or 3 seconds before the starter cranks.

Starter issue?
When my 71 Z and outside temp is cold, I can turn the key and get nothing for a few seconds, before the starter will kick over. When it is warm outside or the car is warm the starter engages normally. Does it sound like my starter/solenoid is going? Battery charge is OK.

wierd seepage from gas tank
"Sweating" sounds like a good description. I couldnt really determine the source other than along the side of the tank. Is there a seam on the left side of the tank? What exactly is the Undercoating anyway? Do you think it could be mixing with gas inside the tank? I have a clear gas filter and don't notice any discoloration.

High idle on Fuel Injection conversion
I think if you have any air leaks after the air flow meter, it will affect your idle. As your car warms up, and leaks in the rubber boot from the air flow meter to the intake manifold may seal up and your idle may go back to normal. I know those boots tend to crack when they get old, it may be a good idea to replace them.

Couple questions related to storage
I have put my 71 away for a couple months while the snow is here. I know there is alot of debate about running the car while in storage. I've always started my 79 every couple weeks and let it run till warm. With my 71 I decided to run it as well, to keep the battery good, and I guess to make it start easier when I pull it out in March. Today I thought I would run the 71 for awhile at 2000RPM to charge the battery. Anyway I set the high idle screw on the carbs and let it run about ten minutes. Then I happened to notice my temp guage was at the high end. I brought the idle down and felt the radiator, which did not feel hot. I flipped up the lever on the rad cap and some steam did come out, then it seemed the rad got hot. Is my thermostat bad? When iIlowered the idle she cooled down a bit. I recall the original rads were pretty marginal, maybe the cars dont like to run at high rPM without going down the road, and thus get some cool airflow. Other question, when the car and outside temp is cold, I can turn the key and get nothing for a few seconds, then the starter will kick over. When it is warm outside or the car is warm the starter engages normally. Does it sound like my starter/solenoid is going? Battery charge is OK.

wierd seepage from gas tank
My car is in temporary winter storage. I filled the tank before I put her away, and today noticed some black gunk on the garage floor I thought at first was from leaking diff. But actually it appears to have seeped from the left side of the gas tank. Very sludgy gasoline stuff. Not a whole lot, but it may be coming from the seam on the far left side of the tank??? I cant tell. I wiped it off the tank. Or possibly some of it is coming from the little hose on the left rear of the tank. We have this crappy alcohol blended gas here in the winter I had to put in a few weeks back. Anybody ever seen anything like this before? InMmarch Ill drive it to run the gas out and maybe pull the tank.

Barret Jackson BS
Has anyone been following the auction on Speed channel this weekend? There were comments from Brock Yates and company discussing why japanese cars were not in the event. The general concensus was there were just too many of these cars mass produced. They did refer to the 240-Z and the Toyota 2000 as possible eventual collectibles, but pretty much said it would unlikely to see many Japanese cars ever in the auction. Later in the show they mentioned they were getting some feedback about their comments via the web in supprt of japanese cars, and then they made some fairly derogatory statements about the cars, again stating the sheer number of cars produced would preclude collectability. The comments were made over a backgrouind of dozens of Mustangs, Corvettes and other mass produced Cheveys and Fords selling for prices over 100 thousand dollars, while some ferraris sold for not much more than that. I wonder if any argument could be made regarding rare Datsuns, Like ZG's, 432's or early Silvias? Anyway, feel free to vist the barret jackson website and give them an earful!
