  1. Ok well I've been flushing the system today. I now think the heater is likely working OK, based on the fact the air is pretty warm coming out of the passenger side. But definitely cold on the drivers side. And again, the inlet and outlet hoses to the heater core are both hot under the hood. Also I noticed the control cable that goes to the blower seems ok, (the corresponding control on the panel is the off-vent-heater control). But I notice I could still push the actual lever at the blower up higher than the cable would send it. It then seemed to open some sort of door, or at least the blower system seemed louder. But this had no impact on the actual heat coming out of the vents.
  2. The heater in my 71 is blowing lukewarm air. Granted, last spring I put in a 170 degree thermostat, but I recall last winter she didn't blow that warm either. I felt both the heater inlet and outlet hoses under the hood, both are hot. My cable to the temperature control (heater valve) is broken, but I manually moved the lever on the valve to the hottest position. Here's another weird clue: I'm getting moderately warm (not real hot) air from the passenger side heater or defrost outlet, but COLD out of the drivers side. I cant see any tears or disconnected heater ducts, but I'm looking today. I'm also flushing the cooling system today.
  3. Some of the last series ones actually have that "brow" over the map light. Mine does,(HLS-20390) and I have seen some other ones that did.
  4. I talked to him this morning and it sounded like it was sold, but you know how deals can fall through. I will gladly look at it for you if he doesn't sell it. When I called he remembered my name and that I had bought a microphone from him about 7 years ago! Weird co-incidence!
  5. I saw that car on our local criagslist yesterday. I could take a look at it for you guys if it's still available. Arne, it would be nice to know which club member that is! I don't know anyone here in Spokane that is on our list. Steve

  7. Wow what an awesome looking Z. BTW, I still have points in my 71. Never had any problems getting her to 6000RPM, have no inclination to go any higher though.

Hey Dave, My 79 ZX with 5 speed has a 3.90 dif as well. But I notice you say you were turning 2800RPM and averaging "about 80MPH". At 2800 in 5th my car is probably going about 60MPH. Whats with that?
  9. Blue 72, how did you get the back issues? Is there a list of the copies available?

Ive been running the 87 octane with timing set at 10 BTDC in my 71. Never had any pinging issues.
  11. You may try Whiteys in Spokane, salvage yard, they're in the phone book.

I notice more 240-Z's (like the two green/tan ones on Ebay now) that show up in incredible condition, that have been well cared for. I recall Sal at Motorsport telling me how surprised he was that over the years more older cars in great condition show up at the nationals each year, cars that no one knew about. A car like the 240-Z were and are often highly cherished possessions by their original, and ensuing owners. I believe there are lots of cars out there in storage that we have no idea exist. Their owners may be older folks who don't participate in the internet. It's not like this or Carl's website are universally known. That said, I suppose a good deal of Z's were run into the ground by the time they were handed down to some uncaring, younger owners as well. I recall an ad that Porsche used to run that said something like "95 percent of them are still on the road" or something to that effect. I wonder what the ratio is for the early Z? It's not like they were considered disposable bic lighters.

5000 240-Z's?? You really think it's that few? Man, It seems like I've seen at least that many for sale on ebay in the last couple years!

OK , so here's a dumb followup, how do you get those back on, as in how do you make em stay on? I have a series one 240Z emblem for behind the rear quarter windows, have never been able to figure out how to make it stick there, it just keeps falling out.
  15. As a kid loved the look of the Jag E type coupe, until I saw a brand new orange 1970 240-Z my seventh grade english teacher (a real fox by the way) bought.

This weekend it' supposed to finally warm up here as well. Into the low 70's!!!! We have had blizzards the last two fridays , with several inches of snow at a time. I can't freakin wait. Gonna take the ZX out of storage. I keep the z insured all year long but have driven her sparingly this winter, whenever the snow melted.

Sorry to hear that! My dog, Sheena died two years ago at age seven from cancer, much too early! My wife and i are still heartbroken. Hopefully time will pass and you'll feel better!
  18. Well I was just curious about a potential engine swap, I recalled you had a 70 Z, and know most folks would keep the original engine if given the choice. But hey it's your car!! Have fun with it!
  19. Dave Ddoes your 240Z have it's original engine, if so, just wondering what prompts you to pull it out for the L26? Are you not worried about the originality issue?

The ethanol concept is certainly a great deal if you are a corn farmer, and it is very debatable if they aren't actually using more energy in terms of gasoline and fertilizer to produce that corn. Just another subsidy for those farmers. Pretty obvious why that one got through congress! But as Red Dog said they are looking at making it out of other things like cellulose waste (wood). My problem with ethanol gas blends are that they simply reduce the mileage you get. Something fishy there for sure.

Ditto that for my 79, Im sure they were original fare, much like the 240-Z, although most S30's don't seem to have em anymore.

I know in the April 1970 edition of Road and Track premiering the 240Z they did mention a direct comparison to the Porsche 911T, the lowest priced 911. There was a reference to the horsepower rating and weight of the Porsche and Z as being very close, and performance was expected to be similar.

  24. Latest exchange rate 3 million yen equals a little over 29 thousand dollars.
  25. Here's a link to some Fairlady auctions going on now in Japan. Note some of the prices for the 240-ZG's on this page (there are a few more pages with other S30's). http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://list1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/2084022959-category-leaf.html Pretty cool looking cars! I dont know what the conversion rate is offhand, but the asking price is as high as 4 million Yen.
