Carl, I am going to ask around about the water wetter stuff, as I need to flush my radiator for the season anyway. Do you know specifically what it does?
  2. I just turned 50 on new years eve. I first lusted after the Z back in Junior high. I dont have a problem with being old and into Z's. It keeps me young.

Bought my first, 79 280Zx , that I still own, at age 34 in june of 1990. I then looked off and on for a 240Z from about 1991 until 2004, when I bought my 71 Blue on Blue. It was in the classifieds on this website.Drove with my wife in the 79 down to Oregon to pick it up.What a fine day!!

Besides the debate about how good the triple set up works with a inline six, what about how the triple Su setup would work with a stock engine? we have heard here before the triple set up doesn't add much without internal tweaking. Although they would look totally cool.(They remind of me of early XKE's.)
  5. Hey Eric, Just curious if that Map light is the "hooded variety"? My car, two serial numbers later has it, but yours appears to be without the hood. The "hood" is quite subtle, and sticks out just a few millimeters, about enough so the light doesn't shine in your eyes when your sitting in the drivers seat.
  6. Ron, Most of us are familiar with Les through the restoration program. But how do you get ahold of the shop? They don't have a website do they?

Uh Well I would be really careful in disposing of asbestos. It is an extreme health hazard. People that have been exposed to it die from it years later if they accidently inhale the the asbestos fibers. Do a search on Libby Montana on google if you want to find out more.
  8. Hey Eric, i just noticed your listing for this car on ebay and realized its just two cars earlier than mine in the serial number series, mine is HLS30 20390.
  9. Can you elaborate a bit about the notch around the spark plug?
  10. My 79 does have a thermotime switch.

Arne, Thanks for making me read that again .I was in on the thread early on , but didn't see that later there was evidence that the problem was in the stock and euro springs only. So you think the ST springs, being a linear type would have the free length changed?

A quick follow up. I beleive there were some folks who had the ride height issue with Tockico struts with tockico springs. werent their springs designed for gas struts?

Good point guys, maybe I can just stick with the cheaper HP's or even the illuminas then. BUT what do folks think about the konis? I heard they gove good performace without a harsh ride...

I see that Shox.com has koni shocks available for 240 Z. But I found threads on our site that seem to indicate they may need tweaking to fit>.Who knows more? are these gas struts? Im thinking of using them with the ST springs. I would like to avoid the height issues discussed here regarding gas struts. I know the konis are pricey though. Maybe I could do better with the illuminas, despite the height issue.

I believe in my case the valve wasn't supplying any fuel to the intake. It was leaking on the top of the valve at the connection. I just disconnected it, and have never replaced it. My car will usually falter at one or two start attempts when cold, then start and run fine.

Stephen you may be right but the symptoms do remind me of my 79 when the cold start was not working. Try disconnecting the cold start injector and see if it does the same thing. If so you may need thermotime switch or the injector.

  19. Hmm, well I thought the euro springs were NLA, and I'm curious where you would find the Mulhollands. I believe thats what are in my car right now.
  20. So Arne, what do you plan to do with your two cars, leave the stock setups in? My 71 has some older performance springs,ST's maybe or Interpart, I'm not sure how long they've been in there, but I want to swap out springs and shocks together. maybe the Tockicos would be OK, but there was some discussion earlier from folks who felt non progressives were the way to go for predictable handling.
  21. Since I have found out that MSA no longer carries their own non progressive springs, Im looking for feedback from the folks here who have ST or arizona springs on their cars. I am thinking of getting Tockico HP's and I want some feedback on what folks like, or don't like about those springs. I had heard some concerns with folks about the unpredicable handling with progressives like the tockico's or eibachs. I dont mind a stiff ride, but hopefully not buckboard stiff. This is for my 71, which is NOT a daily driver. Steve
  22. There was a huge thread on this about 8 months ago. Several people explained that the springs dont nesecarily have to have unequal spaced coils to be progressive. Anyway, i think Im convinced the MSA guy was wrong and the tockicos are progressive.
  23. In our previous discussion of the shock specs a few months back, BadDog posted the spring rates of 120/140 for the Tockicos. Note that MSA is quoting 140/165. Do you think the ones they list are different than the previous progressive springs?
  24. Right, so the set is progressive. So the MSA folks are still wrong.
