History on this Z?
The black bonnet and red body paint scheme is synonymous to the race bred 240Z's that were being built in England in the late 1970's by Samuri Conversions Ltd. The most famous of the cars being "Big Sam". Maybe this is what you were thinking off?? Big Sam (Top) compared to Gav240Z's Z Pic (Bottom) Actaully big typo...oops... the paint scheme is more synonymous with the works rally cars Much better info, then I can ever provide on these cars, is located at Z home

High VOLtage!
I think the 78 Z's had an internal voltage regulator inside the alternator. The 240Z's had an external one. I am pretty sure this is what needs replacing.. If its overcharging it will ruin your battery as it will be boiling all the fluids inside it. Check to see if there is any white powedery residue on your battery and even more importantly on the body work. This is ACID and if its not neutralised and wiped off the bodywork it will cause rusting.

280zx
Alfa Dog what is a far better divers car?? It all depends on how you intend to use the car. The 280ZX is a luxury GT car and the 240Z is a no nonsense sportscar. I own both and when comparing the two I find the 280ZX 2+2 is a far more practical car and in my case a far better drivers car. As for the mechanics, they have virtually the same engine as a 240Z (L28 rathern then the L24). The Bosch fuel injection system requires very little attention unlike carbs do. I don't agree with the Ugly comment as I think the 280ZX shares a few of the 240Z lines, which I like, unlike the 350Z. I agree that the price of a 240Z will always appreciate more then a 280ZX but then again don't expect to be making a huge amount of money unless you already pay a huge amount for an early 1970 low mileage prestine example and expect to keep it for a very long time maintaing its prestine condition by driving it limitedly and wrapping it in cotton wool. Something also to bear in mind is that a good 280Zx can be purchased for much less then a rot box 240Z. Rogue Squirrel, if you do manage to pursuade your mum to get you a 240Z then congratulations but if not don't be too despondent as I am sure you will have just as much fun in a 280ZX which will definitely become a future classic.

280zx
Really sorry to hear about the bushfire, hope you and your family are ok and that insurance will pay for a new house. Now to the question of getting a 240Z or a 280ZX. If its going to be your only mode of transport and I'm guessing you are a young driver, i'd lean more towards the 280ZX 2+2 as I think it would be a more practicle car for you. It has plenty of room for all your friends to jump in (well not all of them). You can also all go on long road trips with a greater amount of comfort then you would do in a 240Z. Just a couple of thoughts.....

Is it possible to weld up the sunroof professionally and then smooth it all out and paint it, so the welds do not show??

Bushing Kits..
Does anyone have any recommendations as to who to buy from?? Looking for a good deal. I have seen the ones offered at www.strictlyz.com and this looks to be the best deal I have found so far. Opinions please.. Does this forum support group buys? If Mike approves, and enough of us are interested maybe we can get a discount on a group purchase??? Thanks, George.

Question for Revell 240Z builders
Has anyone made the Fujimi 240Z MC 72 1/20?? I came across one and thought it a bit pricey. Is it as rare and as hard to get hold of as I've been told?

starting the 240
Hey Burt, Does it only do this when cold? When you turn the key to the on position, so that the dash lights come on, can you hear the fuel pump make any noise? Wait around 6 secs and then turn the key all the way to fire her up. Just wondering if its fuel pump related??????

Gear Shift Lever Boot
Guys thank you so much for the detailed info. Daniel, I agree about changing everything in one hit, I have already ordered my outer leather nice thing and now have to order all the other bits. It is so damn cold here that it wont be until another few months before I can bring myself to enter the garage and do the work. At present I could probably hang meat inside my Z and it would stay fresh. My suspension is another job on the list. I have already purchased outer tie rod ends and next I have to order a bushing kit, cheapest i have found is for $170.00. Yet again another job for when the weather improves I'd also like to apply POR15 to must of my suspension bits..... = alot of work this SUMMER!! Oh did I mention I'd like to fit new weather stripping too?

That's cheap... Datsun
I am not sure if any of you guys are familiar with how dim the headlights are on a Z32? A member of my club used ALCAN all around the inside area of the light and it has helped night time driving considerably. Others in the group have tried his technique and swear it works. This could be used instead of the white Hobby paint. Care obviously must be taken with your wiring as Alcan being aluminium based could cause a short and maybe a fire... I suppose I have put everyone off now!
