Vintage Mustang owner on a Vintage Z site
Welcome!! Good to see other owners of classic cars on here. I for one love classic Mustangs and it would be nice to see more pics of yours. I cant help you on your question about the wheels as I am not familiar with that name as I dont think we had them in England. I was just about to start a post on classic American cars, we have a few over here that people have privately imported. I am particularly fond of the Corvette Stingray anyone got one or had one, are they as good as they look?? Again, welcome and if your thinking about purchasing a Z, you cant really go wrong as you long as you find a structurally sound one. Z's have got the looks and the engines can go on forever.. I think you'll find alot of other Z owners in your area or around your vicinity. Great idea to meet up with them get chatting, get a feel for the car and discover what to look out for when makign a purchase. Even get an old hand to go with you to look. Good luck and I hope you find some Z owners in the Cali area, sounds sunny!

Engine detailing
Daniel and Keith, Thanks for the great info. Daniel - my fingers are aching and so too is my back from leaning over the engine bay for too many hours!! I dont want to sound like i'm throwing in the towel but I feel exhausted and I cant get that thought out of my mind, "me trying to clean a windscreen with a Q tip". I'm gonna make some enquiries this week about polishing shops. Thanks again, George.

240Z Seat bottom vinyl wanted
Hi Ken, Thanks for the info, I kinda guessed it wasnt going to be easy. It seems such a waste of £££ to buy the whole vinyl kit just for one seat bottom as the rest of the seats are perfect. Thanks, George.

240Z Seat bottom vinyl wanted
Has anyone got a spare black vinyl seat bottom in very good condition? I only want the vinyl not the whole seat and just the seat bottom not the seat back. I intend on using it to replace my ripped seat bottom. Thanks.

Engine detailing
Thanks Keith, i think that is definately the way to go. Not sure if we have eastwood products but I will look out for alloy wheel coating applications. As you said, the shine wont last unless its protected. I've never been into this engine detailing malarky but I think I am now addicted. Only 1 more hour to go and i'm off home to carry on polishing

Thanks for the input. I may go today and buy a polishing attachment for the dremmel to get a mirror like finish. Did you use some clear coat so the shine will stay and not tarnish? Thanks

Very nice work Mike. I have just registered as Datsunlova. Have you registered the site with any search engines? As none are coming up under google.com.

My new 240Z
Hi George, (great name by the way) Congratulatuions. You have purchased a very nice example, you will have alot of fun getting aquainted. As for the dash, mine is perfect too and I also heard worrying stories about products causing the vinyl to dry out etc.. So I decided to be gentle with it... All i use is some very mild detergent (Fairy Liquid in England) mixed with water and then I dabe it on with a sponge. Do a section at a time and then with another sponge of clean water dabe that on until you get rid off any detergent. Then dry it off with a clean soft cloth. The results are great and gentle to the 30 year old vinyl. Enjoy the car! She's a bute!

Engine detailing
I started polishing my rocker cover yesterday, i have only done a small section and the results are pretty amazing. All I have done is used a high quality chrome/aluminium polish ( I got this from a bike store and the Harley Davidson riders recommended it!). It has taken a lot of buffing and reapplying but the look is very impressive. I hear some people use different grades of wet paper and then polish it but I am too worried about scratching the rocker. I may use a dremmel with a polishing attachment as it does take forever. Has anyone got any tips of how they did theirs??? Do you think i should remove the rocker cover??? This would be the easiest way to go but I had better buy a torque wrench first. Also how do you preserve the shine as all this rubbing does remove the patina, someone suggested hair spray to me?? Or should I just buy a clear coat? Thanks

chrome band headlight covers
Thank you guys for showing me what they look like as well as the cons of having them. I personaly like them but dont like the idea of dirt building up behind the perspex.

chrome band headlight covers
Does anyone have a picture as I'm not quite sure what these are. If you are referring to a mesh stone cover grill I think there are some aftermarket ones, reasonably priced that are available.

Are these seats stock??
Thanks Keith, Hope you had a great Xmas. They do look very nice and blend in excellently, shame we dont know more about them.

Are these seats stock??
These seats are from a 260Z. They look like they offer far better lateral support then the original seats in my 240Z. Are these seats stock for a 260Z or an after market add on? Thanks !

Fuel Injection Upgrade Options
Thank you Steves. I have heard so many pros when it comes to going the EFI road that I am know more convinced then ever in concentrating on developing the EFI system. Steve C, you have summed it in one sentence "When I hit the ignition to start it purs when I dump the clutch and hammer it it roars". And I bet this is after the car has been left sitting for a few weeks or more too! This is going to be a long haul project as I need to firstly spend ££££ on a good re-spray, new weatherstrip. badges etc.. and then go all out on the engine and injection system. I am glad there are a few of us on here!! I will let you all know how things progress but as I said this will be a long project!

Fuel Injection Upgrade Options
Has anyone gone to town with EFI on an L28 in a 240Z?? i.e, a custom programmable ECU system, bigger injectors, aftermarket injection throttle bodies on a Weber type manifold etc.. What have you done and are you happy with the results??

How to get pin striping off?
I've heard that a hair dryer can work instead of a heat gun.
