Daniel, Thanks for the info. I hear what your saying about the regulator, my 240Z came with the L28 when I purchased it. I think the aternator has a built in regulator, thats if its the L28's alternator. The L24 hasn't, is that right? But it has an external one instead. All stuff I've read on other sites. So you saying that the regulator may not be functioning properly, i.e it doesn't turn off within a stipulated amount of time. Any easy ways of testing this? Thanks again for making things much more clearer.

Its a new battery as well! I was told that it could have occured due to too much power going into it. I have yet to check it out on a voltmeter but will do. The alternator may be charging to much so I'll check it doesn't go over 15V (is that right?) It was really quite a shock to find white powdery stuff on the engine bay, I really want to sort thisout asap. Has anyone got any other suggestions. Thanks

on the fuse cover on the far right to you US guys. There are 3 indentations for accessories, the first is the rear demister, the middle has not been used and is blanked off and the 3rd is a stalk switch for the aerial. Thats on a 73 UK Spec. [Edited] Finally got round to getting a pic of it

Lee, My date of registration is October 73 and it is said that the date of manufacture is normally 4 months out. So if your registration date is March 73 you may be elligible for Historic Car Classification. Check this article out its a list of HS30 numbers with production dates. It's not that comprehensive but will give you a better idea as you can see if your numbers fall before or after the dates they supply. http://zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/classicHS.htm Good luck. 7. Keith, Auxhilary has summed everything up. The most important thing to look out for is the RUST. The rest is easy (relatively) to fix. Engines can go over 200,000 miles without a rebuild. The best thing to do is buy the best example you can afford. Theres no point getting a cheap one which could cost you $$$ in the long run. (Unless you fancy restoring it yourself and have the know how). Also make sure you check out this article by Carl Beck http://www.zhome.com/Buying/1stGenWhatToWatch.html Good luck in your purchase.
  8. Hi madmike, Thanks for replying I was begining to feel lonely on this post :D Yeah that diesel crank idea does sound good. I've also found this website called the Z garage, you may know of it' if not check it out http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html Let me know when you speak to your buddy, it would be good to know how he did it, problems etc... By the way where do you get hold of a diesel crank?? What model crank please. Thanks man. George

Hi Twigz, we are basically in the same boat here. My 73 240Z is leaf green and the interior is black but the info on zhome.com states it should be tan. One reason could be is because the interior colours varied on home and export models, it could be that to meet the demand extra cars had to be imported by Nissan to meet the surge and that these cars were not specifically intended for the export market. They kept the home market interior and just had the engine and lighting changed to meet the export countries legislation. Plausible?? I can't think why else.

Nice one John, you've answered some of my questions too. Thanks.
  11. Hi all, Great site. After some time drooling on Z Car forums I have finally become a "Real" member of this community as I have recently purchased a 240Z. My baby has a late 280ZX with FI. I was wondering on any easy, cheap mods that can be done to increase HP. Any information will be most grateful as i am still a novice. Look forward to hearing your ideas and thanks in advance for your time in replying.

Wow, congrats on buying another 240. She looks in great shape. What make are the carbs you have there?? My baby has no carbs she has the 280zx FI engine. I'll put her some trible webbers soon. Regards, George.
  13. Hi guys, Please to meet you both as I am new here. Trevor - as frenchy13 said, zhome is the best start for you, loads of information which should keep you busy. I ended up going to Amazon and buying a couple of books first which really helped alot. Here is a quick time line: 1970-73 240Z 1974-75 260Z (75-280Z) 1976-78 280Z (78-280ZX) 1979-83) 280ZX The 280ZX is more refined and luxurious. The fastest Z is the 1970 240Z, newer emissions and safety legislation meant the performance started to decrease in later models due to bigger heavier bumpers as well as emmissions equipment (not including the 280ZX Turbo v.fast). As the names suggest 240Z is a 2.4l engine and so on for the other models. Good luck in choosing. George 73 240Z with 280ZX engine

On the night of November 5th, throughout Britain, bonfires are set alight, effigies are burned, and fireworks are set off. The people do this to commemorate their country's most notorious traitor: Guy Fawkes
