Fog/driving lights- Rectangular or Circular?
Alfadog, thanks for the opinion.. I am leaning towards the rectangular ones too, as I think they look more aesthetically pleasing then the huge circular ones.. I was originally hoping the big old round ones would look ok as I found a real nice classic chromed pair of those real cheap. Well, the rectangular ones it is and I will try to get yellow if possible. Thanks guys and a special thanks to SFMRZ, for sharing his sweet looking ride with us.

Siezed Tie Rod end
Hi Carl, Keith, thank you very much for the information.. I am relieved to hear that its ok to have my struts dangling like that... . I will give the pitman a good go and with a bit of luck I should have it free. Keith, don't worry about finding out which sides of the tie rod end have reverse thread, as Carl quite rightly said, the haynes manual will have that info. I haven't checked yet, but i will. With everyones help I am slowly becoming "competent" :classic: (I will not use the word expert as I am far from it) on the Z front suspension. I couldn't have got this far without the good will and helpfullness of everyone on this site. Thanks a million guys. I'm getting there!

Q. 1.) Removing lower control arm...
Hi all, I just wanted everyone to know that was following this post that I eventually, today, removed the lower control arm. If anyone else has the bolt end not the nut end of the control arm facing towards the front, it can easily be removed even if it looks as if the steering rack is in the way. Turn the steering wheel to full lock (either left or right, depending on which control arm you are working on) and you will see that it clears the bolt! N oneed to remove or loosen the steering rack, phew!

Fog/driving lights- Rectangular or Circular?
I went in to your gallery and found the picture. They look great, in fact your whole car looks great. I hadnt thought of yellow lenses, but the compliemnt your car very well. The mods are nice too. Thank you, I think the rectangular lights might look more tasteful then big round ones under there.. Must find some big round ones on a Z to be sure.

Siezed Tie Rod end
Carl, thank you for the reply, by the way I was shocked about the damage bambi caused to your car, glad insurance paid out. Going back to my tie rod end, I have also realised that I have gone a bit wrong on the order I have done things and now that I need more leverage, a tie rod end dangling from the steering rack with a steering knucle attached on the other end isnt helping, I will be putting the control arm back on and the steering knucle back onto that. I don't have a pickle fork, i was using something that resembles a pitman arm puller. I never turned the screw all the way, i will try to go a bit further with that and if not I will have to get the pickle fork. I was relieved to hear the knucle is supposed to have a slight bend in it By the way, at the moment the control arm is off and my shocks are jsut hanging with the hub still attached, i have placed bricks underneath the shock to take the weight. Should be ok?? Another question please: Can someone tell me which sides of the tie rod drivers or passenger side, have the reverse thread. Also, does it matter that i have turned the tie round full circle a couple of tiems, is it just a ball joint on the steering rack that is turning round and around?? I am not loosening anything am I? Sorry for the :stupid: questions.. This a real learning curve for me. Thanks everyone.

Siezed Tie Rod end
Hi, I can't get the steering knucle off the tie rod end... Is this a common problem? I have removed the bolt and tried hammering and it still will not come off. I've been trying for the last hour or so. Any ideas? Also, should the steering knucle be flat as mine has a small bend towards towards the length going to the tie rod. Keith do you happen to have a picture of what a good one looks like? Thanks..

Accident Photos
Sorry to see this. Glad you are ok. What happened? I must have missed a previous thread. Make sure the garage you use has a jig, to insure the accident hasn't caused any structural damage.

Fog/driving lights- Rectangular or Circular?
Thanks to Alan T, I discovered that our 240Z bumpers have two pre-drilled hole underneath them for the mounting of fog lights. See picture below, courtesy of Alan, of position of holes for the optional fiog lamps. Now my question is, can anyone else share any pictures of their own driving/fog light set up. I am unsure whether to go for the rectangular lights as above or to go for the circular variety. Thanks.

Suspension - What's that bit called?
Hi Dino, I know the part you mean, and if you describe it as you did (the metal washer cap that goes over the bushing on the end link) you'll be able to get one.. If you are unsure as to whome to get one from give Mike Feeney (MJP Autos) a call, he definately will know what you are talking about. I imagine that part to be very cheap and probably in stock. His number is 01277374201

The dual horns are at the front above the lower spoiler, check to see if the wires have come away from it..

Shall I install a 4.11 diff??
Hi Alan, Hi Keith, Thank you for the information. Alan, I had no idea there were different 5 speeds.. The information I used was from the 240Z (English Edition) Haynes manual (revised 1987). Which does not mention a B type 5 speed gearbox. However, I appreciate your Z knowledge to be superior to an under-researched English Haynes Manual, so I take your word for it. I am not sure abot the S12 or S13, just that its a ZX silvia Turbo 1984, i think.. Anyway, you and Keith have both put me off the idea and by the looks of it saved me alot of hassle as the diff will be the original and thus a 3.9. Thanks GUYS for shinning your torches and enlightening my Z knowledge

what is this???
Hi Ben G'day mate You are right .... I have no hand throttle, no vents at the rear either but I dont have proper reclining seat belts but I do have the indicators on the bumpers. Oh well its a 73, I guess ..... I am not too sure if late 72's had vents at the rear? did they?

Moving overseas. Selling my baby.
I wish you the best of luck in Hong Kong, a very interesting metropolitan city, I hope it all works out. Keep in touch with the club, we are international afterall and you can easily access all of us from anywhere in the world! Hope your Z goes to a good home. All the best.

Oil pressure
G'day Gee, I have a similar situation going and after reading up on various sites and posting q's I was also told how unreliable the sender units are. Here are 3 simple steps so as to know for sure if it's your sender or not. 1.) With the ignition off, take the wire off the end of the sender. 2.) Ground the wire to a clean metal surface in the engine compartment. 3.) Turn the ignition to the "On" position, but don't start the car. The needle on your oil pressure gauge should rise slowly but steadily, to the top. If it does, then the sending unit is bad, and needs to be replaced. BTW- before anyone starts thinking that I am some sort of amazing Z mechanic (I wish!) I paraphrased that from a Tech Tip I found in an old MSA Z catalogue. Good luck in your testing and I hope it's just a bad sender. Cheap to replace.

Remove old underseal first?
Jeff, Keith, Carl, Your experience in these matters are so very much appreciated, especially to someone who has had very little, if any, experience in restoration/preservation. I think I will go for the Heat method, now I dont have one of those fancy work lamps but I know a sister of mine with a fancy hairdrier.. :classic: (I give her 5 minutes before she notices it's missing...) Thanks guys

driving the Zed
Hi Steve, thats sounds like one hell of a good drive. I havent done anything like that as yet. The factors against me are not the Z (well maybe now as the suspension is in bits) but: 1.) The British weather and its ability to turn a z into an alka seltser when water is added. Now the weather is really good I had better get this suspenion fixed.

Shall I install a 4.11 diff??
Hi Keith, As far as I know it has a standard UK 240z 5 speed gearbox (type FS5C71A). I am not too sure of the advantage of this diff. to the stock one? Can anyone give me any pros and cons? Thanks.
