Spanners?
I hope you guys don't frown on this post too much but I wanted to ask something pretty basic on spanners..:stupid: I have a whole box of them some are in MM like 15mm, 17mm others have fractions 11/16 etc... I normally find the best fit and use that one... How can i decipher the fraction ones and whats the difference between metric and imperial and are all the nuts on are Z's imperial or metric or a mixture?? Another question, i am trying to remove the pipe on the slave cylinder (on the right side of the gearbox). the pipe to the slave cylinder connects via a bolt, i think i need to use a flared spanner... i cant seem to find the right spanner to fit... on the case of the slave cylinder there is an inprint of 11/16, i thought this may be the size of the spanner but it doesnt fit.. what size is it??? :stupid: :stupid: Thanks.

defroster tape resistance?
There is a lot of intelligent discusion going on over this, I didn't want to lower the tone but I'm going to butt in anyway I am not sure if you guys have this product in the US, in fact i will be very surprised if you don't, it is a special paint specifically designed for the wire element on the rear demister. All you do is paint this special conductive paint over the element and hey presto... your rear demister should work! Wouldnt this eradicate the need to be getting voltegage meters and Ampmeters and other sensitive electronic gizmos out??? Or have I missed the point?

Not completely sure I understand what kinda of gloves you guys are talking about. I buy a box of rubber gloves, (maybe 30-40 in a box) they are specially designed for the auto industry and are great as the latex is thin, hence you don't lose any of your manual dexterity and you dont get your hands dirty either!! Well thats the whole point!!

i am so inlove with this!!!
Scarab?? I think thats synonymous with V8 Z's? Anyone know where i can get that front spoiler from? I really like it.

Ahhh is this a 240z? i cant tell...
Joe - As a newbie and also a first timer to the Z scene, we dont want to see you screw up, hence all the posts so far.. Do a little bit of research before you go and see this car, check out the archives on here about buying a z what to look for etc...

Ahhh is this a 240z? i cant tell...
The best advice I can give to you is go look at the car with your father, 1 hr away drive is not far at all. Check the car over thorougly, look at the front and the back and ensure the care doesnt "crab" a good indicator that an accident has caused severe warping of the chassis, since we suspect an accident from the bonnet not closing.. They many be a reasonable explanation for this - ask him. Another bit of good advice I can give is to not buy the first Z you see, ok if this one looks like a steal and everything checks out go for it, but it is a good idea to see other Z's and know what you get for that sort of money by having a good idea of whats on offer...

I agree with MikeW, those arent badges on the hood, there bonnet clips on either side to keep the bonnet down... There is definately soemthing wrong with the bonnet if he needs to use those.. As you can see from the pic, the bonnet still doesnt close properly, which makes me suspect that this car has been involved in an accident at some time or another.

Short N Tall
No disrespect to the ladies but all my eyes can see is the rather interesting decal job this white Z has. I am not a great fan of white Z's but this decal job makes a GREAT difference.

Z Space ship!
Hi Mike, No original flyer, in fact this image is linked to the Zhome page where I found it.. Pretty amazing accesory... Must have been a few Z in the 80's with the CB up there. I wonder if Keith ever fancied one, its abit like the top console some trucks have.

Oil pan..
Thats correct, the engine was on the car... It is a pretty straight forward job to do. BTW - i did clean the baked oil off, took sometime but now the inside of the pan is clean.
-
Z Space ship!
To boldy go where no other Z has gone before This was once an aftermarket extra! I think they were being sold, in limited numbers;), in the early 80's does anyone remember them or maybe you had one? Come on confess, who had one?!!
-
Oil pan..
I used a cork only gasket, the one that was on there previously was an all rubber one... anyway It's all on now.. have yet to fill it with oil ..I'm feeling tired and I'm having a bit of a break before I do that... and Mperdue thought HE needed motivation .. Thanks guys for the great help as ever..

badges or badgeless???
Yeah.. thats a good idea toecutter, I too have the rear panel sprayed a grey color, a gunmetal grey, its pretty close to the original.. Silver would look way too bright. I have also seen them color coded but it only looks right with certain colors. Enrique-- I solemnly admit to bringing disgrace to the Z brotherhood in my quest for the Blonde species

Classic Z Car Club Store
Mike, you could consider to start selling club products on ebay?? We can just have links to ebay auctions you have put up? Just an idea ..

Sorry, 1st what's it worth question..240Z
Thanks for the clarification.. We must display a plate at the front and at the rear... (no exceptions - you will be fined) all cars come with standard plates but if you want a prestige plate (we call it private plate), depending on how few letters and numbers it has the higher the cost.. We're not talking about a $50 but maybe $1000 to 10 of £1000 for a good plate. Landmizzile - it could be a plate they just stuck on their because of the 24 0z for the photo shoot???
-
Sorry, 1st what's it worth question..240Z
Looks good from the pics as what Keith anmd Victor have said, make sure everything is there and there really is no rust.. By the way do the plates/tags come with the car "24 0Z"? I'mnot too sure how the tags work in the US but if those were on a UK car, the plate would be close to or just over the $11,000 alone. I don't know if this adds any extra value to a US car???

badges or badgeless???
Thats a question I am always asked... and I often think I made the wrong decision. Unfortunately, those wheels were on the car just before I bought it..I was given the option of them or the classic Slot Mags that you see in some of the other newer shots of the car. I thought it would be harder to find/repalce a set of "classic" style Slot Mag wheels so I decided on them and to leave the ones youre admiring... Hindsight is a great thing eh..? All I know about those wheels is that they are made by a UK company called Compomotive.. If you go to compomotive.co.uk you may find them, as for the dimensions I havent got a clue :stupid: sorry.
-
Anyone ID this rim style?
oops sorry man.. you shouldnt have asked to ID them... I see the ebay title now "Very Rare Datsun Z Wheels" Starting bid $500 Don't worry at least now you can get the Ebay title correct and sell them to a Sapporo owner!

High beams
I am talking about the turn signal switch lever, on the top, well at least on my 73 240z, you will notice a button.. when you push it the lights come on and when you let go the lights go off.. used when you flash somone to get out the way or to thank them or to say hi to a fellow Z driver :)
-
High beams
Andrew, on the stork on the left of the steering wheel (the one thats also for the indicators) if you move the stork towards you will select hi beam, do it again and you'll select lo beam again. You'll notice that when hi beam is slected a blue light will come on on the rev counter, letting you know its on. Also - thre is a button on that stork press it and the headlights will flash.

badges or badgeless???
Toecutter: your Z looks tres tres sexy:love:! If you've already filled in the holes I'd leave it badgeless, then I'd tell the girls its a classic Ferrari Looks much slicker without the badges. I wouldnt do it as i'd like to keep it original but if that didnt bother me I'd go for badgeless too.
-
Possible damage?
If you turn it the right way up and wash and polish it, the reflections you get will tell you if its bent or not.
