    I own a 1973 240Z.
  4. $2000.00 for the car. $650.00 in parts so far. But I've only begun to scratch the surface of what will be high-dollar project.

I think that the 260Z is the most collectable Z simply because of it's rarity. (in the US)

Here's the seats I just bought for my '73 Z: I got them off eBay and they are from a 1995 Mazda Miata (AKA MX5). There is another set for sale here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1848060627
  10. This is just an idea. I haven’t tried it for this particular application, but have used it on several similar situations. Use a large C-Clamp. Place an old bushing on one side between the C-Clamp and bushing. (a socket of the same O/D as the bushing would be good substitute). Then place a deep socket with a I/D larger than the O.D of the bushing and with a smaller O/D as the control arm (in the area of the bushing) between the C-Clamp and control arm. Tighten the C-Clamp to start squeezing the bushing out. Heating the control arm will help.
  11. Here's another E31 for sale. Looks nice, and it's "garenteed." http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1846505694

P.S. How come 95% of Z pictures on the web have the hood up?

I just bought a set of 1995 Mazda Miata seats for my 240Z. Does anybody know of a good way to re-dye them? The color is dark enough that I could probably get away with then as is, but I would like to dye them jet-black. They are cloth. I guess I could search for Miata seat Upholstery kits, but I'm cheap :stupid:

The Z car pre-order page is up! http://www.speedhut.com/15orders.asp Scroll to bottom and click either the Dial Face Glows or the Font Glow links. As soon as they get 20 orders they will start tooling-up to make them. Non-Z Sample: Face Glow: Font Glow:
  15. From what I've read the #F54 (280ZX Turbo) block is the strongest because of it's simesed cylinders. But if your building a Naturally Asperated motor you'll want to replace the dished turbo pistons with flat-tops.

  19. The way to identify the block is to look on the driver side of the engine, to the right of the motor mount. That's where they cast the block number
  20. Opps.... a few more... www.zparts.com www.modern-motorsports.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html

  22. Nope. The numbers I listed are in fact Block casting numbers. Here are the head casting number: #E31 = 1970-1971 240Z #E88 = 1972-1974 240z-260Z (there are at least two varities of this head.) #N42 = 1975-1976 280Z #N47 = 1977-1983 280Z-280Zx #P79 = 1981-1983 280ZX (Round Exhaust ports) #P90 = 1981-1983 280ZX Turbo #P90a = 1981-1983 280ZX Turbo (same as above, but with hydraulic lifters)
  23. The way to identify the block is to look on the driver side of the engine, to the right of the motor mount. That's where they cast the block number. #E31 = L24 (1970 240Z) #P30 = L24 ('71-73 240Z) #P30 = L26 ('74 260Z) #N42 = L28 ('75-80 280Z) #F54 = L28 ('81-83 280ZX) Putting an L28 (280Z) motor in a 240Z and bolting on the 240Z's carbs is very popular mod. I have a L28 in my 240Z with triple webbers. I keep the fuel-injection intake & stuff in a box in my garage.

I think 300ZX (Z32) seats would be the ultimate replacement seat. (that is, if they fit). You may be able to find leather 300ZX seats in salavage for around $550.00, though I saw a pair go on eBay for $645.00 recently. (My max bid was $550.00) I just bought, but have yet to receive, 1995 Mazda Miata seats. I know they will fit (dementionally), But I will have to remove the Datsun seat rails and install the Mazda seat rails to get the proper seat height.
