Parts trade?
Thanks, I was hoping that there would be some sort of label like the Subaru puts on their Diff's. Today, I spent a few hours in a "U-Pull-It" looking for a R200 LSD without luck. Out of curiosity I looked at a couple subaru's, and both had R180's. and both had ratio labels. Nice of 'em to do that. Did Subaru's ever have R200? or better yet, LSD R200?

hmsports, First off, there are three E31 heads for sale here for about $150.00 each. Secondly, do you know how to tell the ratio of an installed R180? TOP SECRETE INFO: Early model Subaru's also had R180's.

Maybe the person you got the car from "lowered it with a torch" (Heat the springs until the car sagged), and now all the springs (having lost thier heat-treating) have sagged to the point where you have the problem you describe. Just a guess.

Spacer / Adapters made specifically for early Z's can be found here... http://www.modern-motorsports.com/products/wheel%20adaptor%20zto%20h.htm The guy who runs/owns Modern Motorspors frequents the HybridZ Forum, and I 'm sure he or the any of the others that have purchased the adapters will answer any questions you have. Note: these adapters are made from 6061 AL as well.

I do I love the smooooooothness of the straight six (3 of the last 5 cars I’ve owned had a straight six). It’s like a turbine with torque. But, there is only so much you can squeeze out of these engines before they become un-streetable. IMHO Turbo is the best option if you plan to stick with the L6. I would love to see a Twin-Turbo L-28 Z. Two smaller turbo’s will give you lots of boost, but will have less lag than a single big turbo. After that your options are either V8 or another L6 like the RB26DETT. Unfortunately the cost and shad-tree engineering of installing the RB motor is very prohibitive. If the Z you have is a good restoration candidate then sticking anything other than the original type engine is blasphemous IMHO. My ’73 is too far gone to be considered for restoration, so I’m planning a LS1/T56 swap. I figure if going the V8 direction, I might as well go “all the way†with Coil-overs, 4-wheel disc conversions, etc…

A LOT of the inforamtion that can be found there is not only usefull to engine swappers but to "Classic" lovers as well. Things like... Chassis stiffening. Brake Upgrades Suspension upgrades etc...

How fast does your Zed go???????????
My last 240Z was a '73 model with a stock drive-train (4 speed), and I have no idea what the rear-end ratio was. No Air-dam. Stock Suspension. Stock Brakes. 3X 40 Mikuni's, Header, and mild street cam (.480" / 274 I think). 240 block and a slightly shaved (.020) E88 head. It was very comfortable at around 110mph. I once ate a hamburger driving between Oakland and Medesto Ca. while going 110+MPH (Not smart, I know, but I was young). The car displayed no adverse characteristics at that speed. I once had it between 140 and 145 MPH before I chickened out. (I was also carrying a 150+lbs passenger. (He wanted to know how fast it would go )

You might also want to consider the bigger and tougher Viscous-type R230 LSD found in Twin Turbo Z32's (model years '90-'96) and the Infiniti Q45 from '90-95. Or wait for the 350Z to hit the street and find out what kind'a diff it has. This would be a good question to post over at HybridZ.

How many miles can a L24 engine last.
My last 240 had at least 280,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the engine just for the hell of it, not because I thought it needed it. The only excessively worn part I found in the engine was the timing chain tensioner shoe. (down to the metal) The main bearings / journals mic'd to with-in blue-print specs!

300ZX seats in a 240Z?
Anybody know if 300ZX seats will fit in a 240Z? I'm sure I'll have to do some seat-rail modifications, but I wondering about the dimensions. Will They Fit?

Two improved versions: (click for bigger pics) The first one I fixed the cross bar, and I made the second one sharper. The second one will be the one I'm going with unless someone comes up with something better.

Seems they prefer adobe illustrator or corel draw files, but they will accept JPG's and GIF's. So, here's the best I could come up with. (click the pics for larger versions) They're not perfect, but I figure that the SpeedHut people are better equipped to clean them up than I am. Note 1: Having just looked at the first "Z" above (The one I plan to use), I think I'll make one small change to it. (re-center the cross bar) I'll post it when I'm finished. Note 2: I think second one might look good if you choose the "RickShaw" font for your gauges.

The “Z†graphic I posted above was actually ganked from this site. I modified it with Photoshop. I don’t really like a lot, but it does illustrate what I want. I’ll do a better one later and post it when I’m done for all who want to use it. I have to go back to the site and re-check the formats they prefer and see if I can do them, but I know they’ll accept quality JPG’s. They just charge a little extra to clean them up. I was looking at that too and if you read about the Color inverters you find this: 2 color Standard Inverter Switches the Indiglo panel between green and blue color. The color change is most noticeable on the White,Blue,Silver, and Midnight Dial colors. 6 color Upgrade Inverter Switches from Green to Blue in 6 increments. Most noticeable on the White,Blue,Silver, and Midnight Dial colors. The Blue and green membrane buttons control color changes in 6 increments while the black and spoted control the brightness. The Membrane switch glows indiglo blue at night. You would want to upgrade to this inverter if you would rather have the thin membrane switch buttons to control brightness, -OR- You want more control over the color hue from green to blue AND your dial theme consists of whites or blues. I thought the “2 Color inverter†control had a switch to choose either glue or green and a potentiometer to control brightness. Am I wrong? If so, what does the switch do? And how do you mount the “6 color Upgrade Inverter†membrane switches? I'm not the least bit worried about handing over a CC number. Erroneous charges are easily contested. Unlike Paypal and other payment methods.

300ZX seats in 240Z?
Anybody know of any problems installing 300ZX seats in 240Z? I most concerned with width and seat height, and I can't find a 300ZX locally to measure.

Car Info: * 1973 Datsun 240Z * Never been wrecked. * Straight * Minor Rust (worst is lower aft section of L/H Front fender) * New-ish Floor pans * Frame Rails Rust free. * No bondo (except to blend-in rear spoiler) * Power Windows (after-market) * Remote Entry (after-market) * Stock Suspension * 280Z Motor (??? / N47) (Stock Cam) * Triple Weber 40DCOE Carbs * Recaro Seats (I'd prefer the originals) * 14" Crager Wheels * 280Z 5 Speed Tranny * Spare 4 Speed Tranny * Spare Drive shaft and two Half shafts * Spare 280Z Fuel injection intake. * Spare E88 Head (Cracked, but repairable) Milled 1/4" (12.5:1 Comp Ratio (Gee, I wonder how it got cracked )) * Crane Electron Ignition * Crane Cam in E88 Head (Don't know lift / duration) * Has run sub 12 second 1000' foot times with the E88 Head (Varified with third party) * Recent bottom-end re-build. (first rebuild on this motor) (Stock bore size) * Black Paint. * Poorly executed Custom Gray Interior. (Will be restored to almost stock) * After market Sun Roof. (I wonder what it would take to solidify the roof again.) It's a solid, straight, never been wrecked, has lots of potential, project car.
