  1. Ok, I'm driving an hour to see a 240Z. Wondering if I should take some tools to check it out... Like a compression gage? or something like that? he said it burns a little oil, so i thought it would be good to check the compression. anything else I should take with me?! I know to look for rust in the Frame Rails, Floors, Hatch, Battery Tray, and Rockers, any other ideas? here is a link to pictures of the carhttp://12-215-46-46.client.mchsi.com:8080/240z/ Engine looks a little burnt. but who knows... thanks for your time! ~Matt EDIT: don't think it matters but I'm told it's a '73 and has round tops. (plus for me!) EDIT2: OH! one more thing, he said he wasn't sure how good the breaks were, wondering what lines I should check. THANKS!
  2. things are looknig up... (not for my neon though) if the car ends up being totalled I'm going to just (try) and get the Z, if I have a chance, going tomorrow to check it out. I'm putting a new thread in HELP ME for tool ideas..
  3. So I've been waiting 2 years to get a 240z ever since I was an Idiot and sold the 280z... I finally located one about an hour away from me in Iowa. The Body was solid and *mostly* rust free and the engine just burned a little oil. Needed some work, but thats ok! its only 1k and I could do some work on it over the next month and get it working... (Here is Murphy's Law), I get my loan for it...yay! but on my way home from work... my car DIES! like, engine fuses and won't move....great, now I probably have to replace the engine and 'darn', so much for the 240....

Ok, I used the search function and didn't quite find what I was looking for, and I also looked on Zhome.com which answered most of my questions. But... What exactly is the difference between the '72 Dash, and the '73 dash? just the lighter and hazard switch? On zhome, it said in the time line, that the '73 had a modified dash, so I looked around more and found info about dash differences, and it compared the 70-71 and the 72, but wasn't sure if there was a big difference between the 72 and 73 other than the hazzard toggle being changed to a push/pull type. (also someone mentioned something about the lights on the lighters?) Thanks for your time.
  7. Thanks for the tip, but I am looking for a 240z, Non-Series I, I wouldn't want to ruin a Series I since im not too good at body work yet... (Taking some classes now though, really want to restore a Z) I used to Own a '76 280z but i was a moron and sold it....it was in damn good condition too, baby blue *sigh* I really like the 240z's overall style better than the 260z and 280z, they are extremely close but the bumpers and the tail lights really set off the 240zs to me... the fact that they are lighter is a true plus though. I've been doing a lot of reading, buying a few books, and trying to decide exactly what i want to do to the car... (going to make many years and lots of money, ) Thanks for your time everyone. EDIT: Also, thank you lee for the website info. That 77 looks good but I have my heart set on a 240z, THANKS THOUGH!
  8. I don't mean to insult anyone, but if there is a 240z out there that is in less than perfect condition but runs decent, that someone is willing to part with, I would love to take it off your hands. I love the Datsun 240 series and I have been trying to get my hands on one but I am a college student and too poor. Thanks for your time. EDIT: I live in Iowa, and I'm willing to drive/fly anywhere in the US to get the car is there is one.

Im trying to convince the money maker to buy the car but i have a few questions. How many miles are on the car? Do you think It would make it in good health (driving) back to Iowa? are you sure the smoking is just the oil you put in and not the gaskets or such? ..oh, and where and how bad is the rust?

Honestly I really want to purchase the car, but being a poor starving college student with only a weekend job i can't afford it unless you want to trade for a '95 Neon :-) Car does look nice and I would buy it if i could afford the loan payments. Good luck!
  12. crap, as soon as I blow my savings for my 21st, a good deal like this rolls along....guess thats what i get.....grrr :stupid:
  13. I'm In shock! I know I haven't been here long, but I've been doing a lot of reading and ZmeFly was one of the few names I can always remember, He always seemed to be able to help anyone. My condolences to you and your family. I wish I would have only been able to meet him in person.
  14. hrm, the way i see it, there shouldn't be any '69 model years. if you look at current (granted things aren't exactly the same) model of how cars are sold. they usually come out for purchase the september before the year starts (i.e., 2005 cars come out in sept 04), not jan 1 of that year. so the cars would obviously have to be built in earlier 04 to be delievered on time. sorry if im being obvious and off the point, no offense to anyone. just my 2 cents. but the car was designed to be in full use during the 2005 year, hense the 2005 model year. then the design for the next car starts in 05, and changes are made so the 06 will be fully phased in by jan 1 06, and in full use all year. so dispite the fact the the cars have a 69 build date, they were INTEDED to be in full use during 70, hense they are all 70 model years. even if the car was purchased in 69.
  15. is it buzzing? or does it sound like its boiling inside? boiling isn't always bad, but ussually means over charging.

Im going to have to agree with ben on that one! BEAUTIFUL! love the grain pattern! AMAZING work!
  17. Hey, to answer a previous question about L series engines with cross flow head... L series is not a cross flow head (obviously, no offense), BUT you CAN get one, (maybe everyone knows this...but i just found out) it was made by a company in Japan called O.S. Giken and its a DOHC cross flow but it will run you about $12,000 not really worth it in my opnion, but iy does look nice. and now I have a question, its been eating at me for a while. how does the weight of the RB Series (looking for RB26/25 mainly) compare to that of the L Series (L24)? Everyone talks about the great weight distrobution on the Z and I would have to agree that its pretty neutral. (this being the main reason that Id never swap a V8 into a Z, that and they are far less reliable, im not a fan of american cars,).

Hrm, Im Confused, '77 with 260z body style? I'm still a Z Noob but, I thought the only difference in the bodys was the bumbers between the 260z and 280z, (i.e. early and late 260, and didn't the 77 and 78 get a slightly modded bumber?) aside from that what would you be referring to? I know you said its complicated, (sorry) but im intrigued now! not to waste your time, but could you explain it? was it just more options available in japan?

not a bad looking car but its got one hell of an ugly arse... no offense to the owner, just not my style, like the original lights alot better.
  23. for starters, I would Read the Sticky notes in this forum... this isn't an article so this post will probably be deleted...(from this forum) next time I would put it in the help me section or the fuel injection section. but ill try and help anyway. I'm really not sure what your problem is, but I've heard of people having similar problems when running SUs, they just don't have enough fuel flow, pressure is fine at low engine speeds but at higher speeds the fuel pump just can't supply the needed volume of gas. your hard lines could be clogged.... maybe put a fule line cleaner in? just a guess... I'm sure there are more qualified people to answer this here, but no one has yet so I thought i'd give it a try...

Where did you get the remote door openers from?
  25. That is absolutly beautiful! After seeing that I'm not sure what id rather have...RB26DETT or VH45 (TT), I'll be stuck dreaming of both I guess! Would be nice to get specs and diagrams of the mounts and so forth... maybe more info on that VH41.
