Possible E85 modification/conversion?
With the price of gasoline creeping upwards and my new 1973 240Z slowly coming apart for a complete refreshing/updating, I had the wild thought last night of converting my fuel and induction system to run on E85, that is, motor fuel formulated with 85% ethanol. I'd rather not debate the pros and cons of ethanol here. I know that there are a lot of opinions out there, but the fact remains that we have a pretty high number of stations here in the upper Midwest that sell this fuel, and their numbers are increasing every day. Plus it is cheap - anywhere from $.50 to $.80 cheaper than regular unleaded. Have any of you guys ever heard of doing this? It seems that an old, carb'd Z car would be an optimal one to use. The fuel and induction system is relatively simple with no computers controlling anything. It seems to me that a conversion would be a matter of changing things like carb jets, fuel piping, metering, and so on. I have done some internet research, but any opinions and/or knowledge would be great. Luke

On the trailer #1
The unfortunate outcome of a spring blizzard, more rain than snow. Just enough to turn the highways into hockey rinks. You should have seen it back in January....3 feet of the stuff with Arctic temperatures. I have 50/50 Zerex rated to -34 in my Jeep....it got so cold one night that my coolant turned to slush....in my garage! I love it here, though. Spend one late summer night in Minnesota and you'll never want to leave.

Homemade Daytona Coupe!....
Daytona Coupes are such beautiful cars. This guy is insane....I can't believe the amount of time and effort he put into building an authentic Coupe. Truly a labor of love. Factory Five Racing builds and sells a kit Daytona Coupe. You can order it however you want - with carpet, A/C, luggage space, stereos, etc. You just add a huge motor. I saw one ad in Automobile Magazine essentially saying that you can build a very drivable, "super-touring" style Daytona kit car. Check it out at www.factoryfive.com. Of course, one of these kits cars is nothing compared to what this fellow has built.

Absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to see an updated photo, though I think the old override bars are kind of cool. What mods have you done to the suspension? What are you running for wheels/tires?

In it's current state, my car drives well. However, my dad and I felt that trailering the car was the safest way to get it to his shop in South Dakota.

Replacement guages
Thanks for the advice. When you say "shop manual", do you mean the Nissan/Datsun shop manual or something like a Haynes or Chilton manual? For that matter, maybe one of you Professional Z-Car Nuts could post a suggested library for us newbies to chase down? thanks, pharmer

What a beautiful car! My '73 was originally orange but painted an awful Maaco black in the '80's. I can't wait to return it to it's former glory.

Replacement guages
Hello all, Newbie here, just purchased an unrestored 1973 240Z from a gentleman in California. While I'm still waiting for the spring warmup to takeover here in Minnesota I'm compiling a list of parts and repairs to bring my car up to driving condition. Check out this link: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/403453 I'd like to install similiar AutoMeter guages in my Z, but I have no idea where to start. Do any of you have experience replacing the guages on your Z? Any help you can give me is much appreciated. Photos of my car are attached. I'll publish my "action plan" in another forum for comment when I complete it. Thanks a lot for any help you can give, and I'm very happy to a part of this community finally! Pharmer
