  1. I Saw that car for sale on ebay. I agree with the modifying the rear pannels from the standard metallic grey colour.
  2. I Saw another Fairlady roadster wednesday in Perth. It was another red one, but not the same one as before, different rego, exhaust note and different driver. This guy was absoultley caining it down plain street from the corner near the mint and the grovsner, down plain street towards Adelaide terrace.
  3. G'day Californian Zee owners From Down Under. My Brother is up from Australia and is in California untill the 11th of April. I occured to me that he might be able to get a few bits of trim for my 240z that are nearly impossible to find in Australia. I'm after: 1 x Front hood emblem 2 x side datsun emblems 1 x choke lever handle and the 2 plactic cover things that go in the door latch lever thing (one for each door). So if you have an old parts car sitting around the garage or some old bits in a box you dont need, send me an email and i'll see if i can get my brother to pick them up for me. Preferrably cheap or free. Only have 2 weeks to arrange it before he leaves. zed240@hotmail.com Cheers Craig.
  4. 5 speeds were available on the 240z since the first zed rolled out of the factory. Only Left hand drive US zee's got 4 speeds, and since the L24 was the same for the rhd and lhd the 5 and 4 speeds are interchangable. I thnk the F boxes were used up untill the 280zx turbo, which used a different type box. i think it was a borg warner style box. I think all boxes are interchangeable. but i'm not 100% sure
  5. No, it's not that old! It was in the RS2000 skyline which was somewhere around 85 to 88 . There were no GTR skylines after the 70's model GTR's untill the R32 brought back the GTR name in 1989. 80's skylines were just GT. (without the R) Such as the GT2800.
  6. The S15 has been discontinued as it cant meet the new japanese emission standards with its current engine, and is only sold in Japan, Australia, and NZ. Rather than sell it just in Aus and NZ nissan have droped it completely. Second hand imports with sr20s will still be allowed, however the government has changed the rules to restrict the second hand import industry, and some cars cant be imported anymore. I was reading about it somewhere.
  7. Damn thats ugly. Looks like a melted lotus 7 kit front end with a cobra kit rear end. For $69000, id rather have a 350z. Speaking of 350z. A friend of mine was at speedworks to have a Mk4 supra he is buying examined by the boys down there when a 350Z turned up. Aparrently the owner has got them fitting twin turbos to it!
  8. A bit like this you mean: I'd rather the round lights be closer together without the square light inbetween them, corvette style. but i like the standard lights the best.
  9. Yep wack a stamp on it and post it to me in Australia.:classic: Nice bonsai kitten I see yours is a cube. I have one myself, it's a pyramid. I call him pointy.
  10. P.S. Is that a tea towl and electrical tape air filter?
  11. My turbo (laser tx3/mazda 323 4wd turbo) leaked oil. Engine didnt smoke though. Most of the oil ended up in the intercooler. it was leaking on the intake side, not the exhaust. If the engine is smoking constantly at idle worn piston rings is my guess. if you get a lot of smoe when you rev it after letting it idle for a while this also could mean piston rings. If you rev it and get a puff of smoke after letting off the pedal, it indicates worn valve guides, as oil is sucked down and burnt on over run (thats what it said in the book i was looking at, an interperated it to mean that. if i'm wrong let me know) ofcourse this was for non turbo cars so it could be the turbo if it smokes under acceleration. I see by the photo it has a carbie bolted straight onto the turbo looks like a suck through arrangement. Maybe you can take the airfilter tube off, lift the vacume plunger thing open and shine a torch in there to see if there is any oil in the intake side, though it would probably be in the engine intake side of the turbo i suppose, like 2manyZs says. Compression test the engine. it just involves removing the spark plugs. Easy. that will give you an indication of the condition of the engine. if you can take the carbie off the turbo, you can check the impeller shaft for play (up and downmovement, and endfloat, thats in and out). That car looks in really poor condition (look at the corrosion on the OHC cover), I hope it's really cheap. Be preapired to strip and rebuild the engine.
  12. Truth is that zed's are seen as chicks cars by blokey aussie males that wouldn't be caught dead in anyting other than a V8 ute or a 4 door sedan. (interestingly enough the first ute was conceived by a woman and built for her by ford, so i guess utes are chick cars too). If you've seen the movie Chopper (i only saw it on foxtell a couple of weeks ago), the part when he says he gets photos from all sorts of people outside bojangles niteclub, he says "photos from homosexual types" and the scene is of a guy with bleached short hair infront of a 260z 2+2. hmmm. Maybe they drive sedans to try and be blokey. Who cares. I dont. I bought a datsun 240z originally (in high school) because it was cheap and had all the features of more expensive sports cars like IRS, and they look so cool. I just bought another one because they look so cool! and i wanted a project car to have some fun with. The fact that they are only going to appriciate in value is good too. Dont get me wrong, I didnt buy it as an investment, anyone that thinks cars are an investment needs their head examined. they cant appriciate in value quick enough to offset the cost of ownership unless you stick it in a shed and never ever drive it anywhere. With cars, it's personal I like: 1600's, 1200 coupes, 240z's, (hate 2+2's), VH-VK Commodores, hk monaro's,xy falcon sedans, xb falcon coupes (xb sedans are ugly, and so is every other falcon except the newest one- wow ford finally got it right again), didn't like 240k's ny they've grown on me, i could go on and on, but i wont. No flames please.:classic: And now for something completely different. I've seen 4 350z on the road all of them were concept colours 2 lemans sunset and 2 platinum silver. What? people dont want a red, black, blue or white one?
  13. This one was invented, i believe, by a european guy called jans vinter, thats all the info i have and might not be accurate.
  14. same spoiler again i believe, but cut down and modified.
  15. then there is the aussie spoiler that was mentioned, though i believe it is a copy of a front spoiler from what i know as the californian z body kit (the one with the fg rear wide body arches). widely available in australia
  16. msa with vents (aparrently the msa are available in FG or poly)
  17. then there's the msa style air dam: without vents
  18. I'd like to see some more exciting spoilers. basically you have: Spook style spoiler (with or without vents): Dont know why its called that, i'm just following the herd.
  19. For cases of foot in mouth. quickly hit the edit button on the bottom, you can edit your post and backpedal as much as you like, or even delete the post completely, leaving no trace unless you aren't quick enough and people have started replying to what you wrote.
  20. 4 barrels for 6 cyls, the maths dont add up. Kidding aside, the is 650 probably too much carb for a 2.4 liter engine, unless it has a wild cam in it, even then it probably still is, but i'm no expert, i've just read a lot of car mags. L24 engines did come with downdraft carbies. The skyline/240K for example.
  21. goto www.divx.com com and...ah forget it, just click here and save to your computer. the latest div x. 5.0.3 (3mb) if that dont work, try older versions of divx (4 and 3).
  22. So the only place you saw a year for the car was on the rego papers? Whats the compliance plate say? I expect its just a stuff up in licencing department records by some data entry person. Notice how the '3' and the '6' are right next to each other on the number pad. The only way to get an approximate year of manufacture for an Aussie Z is to check the date on the compliance plate, which will tell you (month/year) when the car arrived in australia. Then you have to guess how long it took to get here on a boat, and how long it sat around in Japan before being loaded onto the boat. (yeah i'm guessing this. I asked this in another post about when compliance plates are fitted and what the date meant (build or compliance date) but havent had any replies, so untill anyone knows different i expect it happens like that). Hey Gee How do your's and your friends chassis numbers compare. Is yours lower than his? 2/72 HS30 10527 MPH
  23. The answer is Toyota 2JZ Well thats what it looks like. Its had the twin turbos replaced by a single turbo by the look of it, anf the intake side looks modified also. It was in the members gallery somewhere.
  24. I was on the red cat bus today near the waca stopped on wellington street, and saw a red fairlady roadster drive through the lights down plain street. 1AXA something was the licence no. Now that is something you dont see everyday in perth. (I can just imagine the replys from the americans reading this post...whats a waca? cat bus? )
