  1. Sounds Frustrating. Hope you get it sorted. My 72 240z indicates right most of the time, but if i move the lever too far down, it's like i've turned the indicator off. I know this is just a fault with the switch. My Solution dont push the lever all the way down. My headlight switch was worn too. No headlights. I fixed that by pulling it apart and replacing the sprung plastic dooverlackies that push the copper switch plate down onto the contacts with plastic ones i had made.
  2. No they were in a late 80's band called The Cockroaches, which were definately not heavy metal. More like light fluff.
  3. It would be quicker to make a list of American things that AREN'T annoying. ROFL
  4. Alfa, Just drive the 240k around untill its done! You still thinking about selling the 240z. Mine's originally silver, but someone painted it red.
  5. I agree. Who said Japanese market cars were inferior? Just because they had a 2 litre engine? 5 speeds are better than 4. Did aussie cars get rear sway bars? I just looked under mine, and there isn't one. So i would have to assume no.
  6. Are yours the half orange, half clear type?
  7. Yeah and the pusrods add extra weight to the valve system, which when they have to change direction (go up and come back down) every rpm, the inertia of the rod causes problems at high RPM.
  8. I'm guessing they (the mirrors) came off a small diesel truck. Fixed the headlights last night. Wasn't a wiring short like the previous owner said it was. Just a worn plastic lug in the switch, and a broken solder connection. Resoldered, and replaced the lug in the switch with a new one in i made from the end of a bic pen. Works fine. I'll replace the lug with something more permanent later. Plans. Havent decided yet. Probably mostly stock. Definately have to get a front spoiler, new mags, and strip and repaint it (Not Red)to find and remove all the hidden rust. Engine might need new rings. Suspension migh need some work too. All depends on what fund$ are available.
  9. Thanks DatsunZGuy, You're a champion.:classic:
  10. Yeah I read the resto thread, but it didn't really have much to say. The wheel is worse than it looks in the Photos, half of the clear has peeled off, so i want to strip it all off and revarnish it, but I didn't want to damage the plastic wood finish. I was thinking about using a chemical stripper as sanding might remove the wood grain detail and leave me with a plastic look. but stripper migh affect the plastic also. I just wanted t get a few responses from people that have actually resto'd their wheels and how they did it.
  11. And who can be botherd changing through 6 gears anyway. 5's enough, half the time you get to the speed limit in 3rd, and skip 4th to go straight to 5th. Sometimes i dont even get to 3rd. Damn 50Kph limit. 6 speed boxes are for cars with loads of power, and/or a little on the heavy side, so that you can have a lower 1st gear to get the car moving, and a higher overdrive gear for fast speeds that you never get to drive the car at anyway. Glad to see your trying to learn about stuff Raven. I had a friend that thought cars were something you just had to get from A to B. He thought his new Hyundai excell was a nice car, untill he bought a '90 Twin Turbo Supra. Now he's really into cars and is always asking me whats OHC mean?, how's a turbo work, etc etc etc.
  12. On the '72 240z I just bought the steering wheel spokes are silver, looks like its paint (Someones gone crazy with silver paint under the bonnet also, airfilter cover, front grill, oil cap, brake fluid caps). They are supposed to be matt black aren't they. Also the clear coat varnish on the "wood" is peeling off. Anyone got any tips on fixing up the steering wheel. And the Datsun 240z badge on the glovebox, is the lettering supposed to be painted white?
  13. Single Bulb from a 2/72 240z. Heres a pic of the busted one.
  14. Ha. I just stuck a SST automotive sticker on the back of my zed. I had it left over from the auto salon. I was going to stick it on the commodore, but then people might want to race me. I need a Front left indicator lense (clear type). Choke lever handle, air vent handle. Umm thats all i can remember at the moment. Oh yeah a 240z gearbox. Mine has a 240K box. And new rings by the look of the smoke thats coming out the exhaust.
  15. Ah Houston, We have a problem. Man, looks like mission controll in there. What's with all the switches, lights and keypad. Is that a maglight torch you've got stuck to your Dash?
  16. I've uploaded some photos so click on the My Photo Gallery Link <----------------- Click there
  17. I Still think my Photoshopped 350Z looks better than the real 350Z.
  18. Here's a Tamiya Model of a 350ZG 350Z with a G nose! Looks like something they invented, or some modeller has modified a standard 350Z model, but it's all in Japanese so I dont know the story. 350ZG Link
  19. C-Red. Post some pictures please, I'd like to know what it looks like. It it the 240K looking type. A friend of mine had a C210? series Skyline 2000GT (Turbo L20 6 cyl) coupe about 10 yeas ago in Perth. Pretty nice car, electric everything, just a little strange looking. Looked exactly like this picture
  20. I just bought a 240z today in Perth WA. Needs a bit of work, but I'm up for it. Should be fun. It's my second 240z, the first was a 72 and in very poor condition. I Sold it years ago. The new 240z is also a 72, but in a lot better condition (not much rust at all). What's the deal with the speedo being in MPH? both of them were, but Australia uses KPH, and has done since about 1960something. Anyone in Australia with a speedo in KPH? if so what year car is it? I've borrowed a Digital camera from a friend and will have a few pictures up soon.
  21. Yep we call it a handbrake in Australia, and as its a RHD, its nice and handy. I think since the 240z has such a tall transmission tunnel, and the seats are pretty low, they didn't want to mount it on top, centrally, as i might make it a bit arkward to use. My old celica on the other hand had a lower trans tunnel, and the handbrake was right in the middle of it between the seats.
  22. The 73 has other advantages over the 70 in other areas. Something about the diff being repositioned so the drive shafts are on less of an angle, some other stuff i cant remember at the moment also.
  23. Wrong. A wing at the back provides down force onto the rear tires increasing grip through hi-speed turns and making the car more stable, no matter whether the car is front or rear wheel drive. Take a front wheel drive with a rear wing, thrash it around a race track, then take the wing off, and do the same and you'll notice the car is a lot looser in the back end. Then play demo derbys with it, and smash it up, cause rear wheel drive rocks, and front wheel drive sucks.
