  1. Well apparently the bore liners are a sprayed on plasma coating (0.15mm thin), and the 100,000km service involves removing the engine, dis-assembling it, and having the bores re-coated. This was printed in "Motor" magazine, issue May 2008. (I believe they have reprinted it in other issues). So it may or may not be entirely accurate. After a quick search on google, it seems that no one really confirms or denies it. Though there's nothing about it in the US Service and Maintenance booklet pdf. Maybe its just another case of Automotive journalists not knowing wtf they are talking about.
  2. It's a pity you have to do a complete tear down of the engine every 100,000Kms so Nissan can spray on new bore liners, at around $10,000 cost, or so I hear.
  3. Wow, he could tel that just by driving it? No electrical tests on the AFM or engine management comp? no O2 % test? I'd download the L series efi book and do the air flow meter tests before shelling out $170 on a new one based on a seat of the pants diagnosis.
  4. I think you'd have better luck with ebay, sourcing a second hand part, than trying to adapt an after market part. Maybe just try asking if any of the members here have a spare they want to part with.
  5. From that angle it looks like it has 240z inspired quarter windows, whereas the 350z's quarter windows looked more like 300zx Z32 inspired windows.
  6. Part numbers are listed below, you just have to click the right link till #33 is displayed 6b6 & 6b7 depending on your cars year.
  7. You may have found this already. http://carfiche.com/fiche009/s30/index.pl?6:b:4
  8. Though, there was a haynes manual that listed the wrong firing order, which was corrected in later manuals.
  9. Pre-internet days when I had my first 240z I tracked down a clunk to the right hand side stub axle. I just crawled around under the car feeling for any play in the joints. Started with the propshaft, to the diff, then each drive shaft to the wheels. Found the slightest movement in where the driveshaft bolted to the wheel. Not sure if it was the right thing to do, but I just tightened the big nut up and the clunk went away.
  10. Well according to the owner of Scarab #154 is was a production error. Scarab screwed up and made 2 cars with the number #153.
  11. Well, I own one, so yes they were made. Disclaimer: if by solid cast you mean the Z is flat and chrome like the numbers 2,4, & 0. I gather by hollow cast, you mean the standard recessed Z emblem. Maybe a picture will explain it better:
  12. Sounds dodgey. But I can think of a couple of theories to cover it (other than scarab making 2 #153). Theory 1. Ebay car is a fake and somehow got a scarab id plate, as red car owner claims to have original scarab paper work. Theory 2. Ebay car, is a scarab, He sells the engine after he decides it's not powerful enough. It gets put in the red car, which gets a scarab kit makeover. And since it has the original #153 engine (They had numbered intake manifolds apparently), the PO is able to get a replacement tag from scarab?? and maybe copies of paperwork? I'm wondering what details are on the paperwork. If it lists the Nissan chassis number as being the same as the red car, then thats the original one. If it list the blue cars number then thats the original one. If it doesn't list the chassis number, then nothing can really be proved by it. Oh the shenanigans that PO's will get up to. I'll bet on the red one. MEZZ. You could report the car to ebay as it's may be being misrepresented as an original scarab, when possibly it isn't, and send them a link to the other #153 on cardomain. Though whether they would actually take any action is anybodies guess.
  13. I thought we were talking about the Solid chrome Z on the rear hatch 240Z emblem, as opposed to the later white painted Z.
  14. Ah yes. I have one of these solid chrome Z emblems. All I know is that they were apparently on very early cars. Please tell us more Kats.
  15. Hi Kid K. No idea about the wheels, sorry. Got any pictures of your K's?
  16. Not much at all. Would require a complete rebuild to be worth anything. Might be able to get up to $1500 in the condition it's in. You need to update your signature. Says 1969 240Z???
  17. Here's another Scarab for your research. This ones in the UK: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C38708
  18. The plot thickens. One of them must be a fake....right? Why would Scarab produce 2 cars with the same number? Does the paper work list engine numbers and chassis numbers, and do they match whats on the car?
  19. He means capacitors. cap is geek speak for capacitor in the electronics world. Well at least thats what I think he means.
  20. Yeah, marketing gimmick sounds more like it. Well, they they did make the 140Z.
  21. We'll have to get some South Africans onto it. See if they can dig up any marketing literature. Anybody got any contacts down there?
