  1. Hmmm. I assumed it was, because Tom said it was. Maybe he asked the guy on the phone, and thats why he wrote it. It doesnt say in the advert. And I never asked when i talked to him on the phone. Tom.....
  2. From what I understand. Powder coating is this. The item you want to powdercoat is celaned off to bare metal, then heated to a hot temperature. Then the coating which is some sort of plastic powder is applied and melts on to the surface to form a paint like coating. Thats about all i know on the subject, so maybe some powdercoaters could chime in.
  3. 280Z 2 seater of the S130 variety. Ex Western Australia car (We got all sorts of dealer imported second hand cars in the mid to late 80's before the laws were tightend up.) Starting bid AU $1,200.00 Clifton Springs, Australia wherever that is <img src="http://i8.ebayimg.com/04/i/07/95/da/f4_1.JPG"> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230002557363
  4. More Salt for the wound.... I phoned the guy up today to see if he still had the car, or if it had been taken away. I was prepared to offer him double what he was asking for it. He was asking $900ono. I would have offered $1800, but he said it had alread been taken away. Then i asked how much he sold it for. I hope you are all sitting down... $650. I almost swore at him, but managed to contain myself. Then I told him he could have probably got $1500 to $2000 for it easily. He then asked what was so special about them, seeming to not believe my statment. I Told him they were an early Nissan Skyline, and there were a few Nissan enthusiasts the would love to have one. The he started on saying how the Arabs want them but didnt know why, and that the first 2 people that looked at it wanted to ship them back to the middle east. I told him that lots of Aussies want the cars too. Maybe he feels a little stupid for selling it so cheap. I hope so. The Advert reads: DATSUN 240K, 1973, 6 cyl auto, one lady owner, excel mech, FSH, drives well, lic to Nov $900 ono.
  5. Hey Tom, you want to know the really annoying part..... ....Its on the quokka online site, which means it was in the paper last week and no one bought it. The phoned in ads ony go on the website, the second week they appear in the paper.
  6. Yeah in Kuwait aparently. I dont know why, maybe someone from over there can enlighten us.
  7. Damn that sucks. Its bad enough that 240K coupes are rarer than 240zeds, but to have to compete with the middle east for our local cars. Poor thing will probably end up with a V8. Tom, you have to be ruthless. You should have asked to look at the car while the guy was still at work. Then if you liked it you could have rung him and told him to hold it for you untill he could get home, and you could inspect it better. Doesn't hurt to ask. I'd be on the phone to the guy on the weekend, and see if the sale is still going through.
  8. Why skim coat the whole panel after you think you have got it flat. Isn't that just making pointless work. You'd have to sand again, after getting it flat the first time. (bondo never goes on evenly). Fill the dents, dont skim the whole panel. Then use high build primer (spray putty it used to be called), sanding and re applying untill you have worked out all the minor ripples. Its alot easier to sand the spray putty than a bondo skim coat.
  9. It was me, not Gav that said that about the 240K. And as for what was in the rest of my post and I was talking about back in the 70's not current racing cars. Its that racing pedigree that people seem to attach to a car and its value. Which is why a 240z is never going to be worth as much as a Falcon GTHO or a Torana A9X. A 240Z never won bathust (nor even competed AFAIK). Then in the next sentance you agree with exactly what i was saying Yep that what I said. The Z is undervalued, ie: 240Z arent held in the same regard (in Australia) as they are in the USA. I'm not really sure what you are trying to say Mike. Are you disagreeing with what I wrote, or what Gav wrote in a different post. And the prices i'm talking about are for road driven 240Z's, like HS30-00131 selling for $4700. Hey, I though low VIN cars were supposed to command high prices. (Personally, I dont care about vin numbers, id rather have a good high vin car than an average low vin car). Also My Z is running its original engine too!
  10. I wouldnt wire the buzzer to come on when the ignition is off. I'd wire it to the door switch, so that it came on when the door was opened and the headlights were on. Thats how most new cars do it. I think it would drive you crazy everytime you came home at night and turned the igniton off first, before the headlights. Thats the order I always swith things off, and thats why id wire to trigger when the door opens.
  11. Which link were you using? the first one (post #1) isnt working at the moment. Try the links from post #10 & #11 (its the same article, split up) right click and save as, then after they have downloaded, open one at a time. If they dont work either let me know.
  12. try ebay australia. they come up on there too. email this ebay username He's probably got one : motorden
  13. I was looking at getting an electronic auto darkening welding mask, as I want to have a go at fixing the rust on my Z. I have a cheap mig welder, which isnt particularly suited to the job, but thats another story. It came with a cheap mask, the kind you hold with your hand. The shop I went to (an auto store) had solar powered ones. Has anyone any advice whether to get a solar powered one or a battery powered one. I didnt get the solar powered one, as most of my welding would be done at night time in a shed. but once I got home I started thinking that mig welding would produce UV radiation, which might power the mask? Anyone know if this is how they are designed to work? or would it be no good to me.
  14. This project wouldn't involve t-shirts would it? Any of theres any good to you (not GT-R unfortunaltly) http://www.nissannews.com/multimedia/nd_50_anni/bw/production_1972_skyline_hard-top.jpg http://www.nissannews.com/multimedia/nd_50_anni/color/production_1972_skyline_hard-top.jpg http://www.nissannews.com/multimedia/nd_50_anni/800/production_1972_skyline_hard-top.jpg
  15. here was the other one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-240Z-1973-Rare-Classic-Sports-car_W0QQitemZ4649798484QQihZ002QQcategoryZ102220QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  16. Heres one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1970-Datsun-240Z-Rare-Series-1_W0QQitemZ4653731044QQcategoryZ102336QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Early Z Car number HS30-00131 AU $4,100.00 no reserve. You'd probably have to deal with a car importer in Hong Kong, and have them arrange the shipping (If this seller is willing to do that). The other must have ended.
  17. I doubt that the price of 240z's is going to rise much in Australia in the next 5 years. 240Z arent held in the same regard as they are in the USA, except to the people that actually own one. Theres no racing history here in Australia for the 240z, apart from a few rally wins, unlike in the USA. Most Australians still prefer their 5 litre V8 70's classics like the Falcon, and Monaro, followed by Toranas and Chargers. Cars that actually raced in the national racing circuit. 240z's are way down the pecking order and are regarded in the same league as celicas, and mazdas. Lucky there are still us aussie Zed heads to keep the cars on the road, or they may have ended up most of the 240K's that were delivered to australia - crushed and shipped to asia to be melted down and recycled into hyundais. Now a 240K coupe on the road. That's a rare sight. I remember seeing one about 7 years ago, last time I ever saw one. I do still see 240z's and 260z's driving around though.
  18. Weren't the rear quarter panels different in the GT-R? I seem to remember reading on here years ago that the rear quarters were different? Something about the line and the wheel arch, more clearance for tyres? Is was so long ago.....
  19. 2 240z's on ebay australia at the moment www.ebay.com.au.
  20. I guess i'll have to take it off my watch list......
  21. I guess he should do his research. Someone told him that these car were worth heaps in Japan, and he believed them. Probably referring to GTR C110's not your garden variety 240K. 240K's are worth very little in Australia.
  22. If you knew the controversy this simple question caused in the first place you would realise whe he didnt want to answer it here. The short answer is that the ebrake is supposed to be on the drivers side and they coulndn't be bothered moving it to the drivers side for the USA market cars, so that why its over on the passenger side. further discussion of this controvesial subject should be continued here http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14798
  23. 2 door or coupe??? a 2 door is a coupe. Maybe 4 door or coupe. You wont find a LHD one here. Maybe you can explain to us why 240K's are so popular in Kuwait.
  24. I dont think its that unusual for a car manufacturer to sell a bare shell. The drift monaro gto that competes in the aussie drift circuit was bought as a bare shell, not a complete car, and purposly built/modified for drifting. Same with all the Touring cars. They are bought as a shell and built from there, not bought as a complete car, stripped and rebuilt. They also need spare shells for when cars get destroyed beyond repair. I think he's dreaming about the price though.
  25. how's he expect to sell anything if he doesnt give postage costs, and wont answer questions about shipping.
