  1. I was playing with my 260z trying to get the engine running to asses its condition (its a parts car). Anyway the float overflow was jammed and it was pumping fuel out all over the place. I had disconnected the pump a while ago. So i had to reconnect it to try and get it running only i had plugged the wrong leads in and got the same noise you are describing (loud rapid ticking noise). Theres the fuel pump, and some other thing also there, that appears not to have been connected. I cant find leads for it to plug into, once the fuel pump is plugged in. Checking the haynes manual I think it might be controll relays to turn the pump off when the engine is cranking. Maybe thats what causing the noise. Never did get the engine started.
  2. Looks like those overriders were made custom. But Why? So the car can be push started by another car?
  3. My Aussie 260z 2+2 has an eletric pump, and no mechanical pump. I dont know what year it is though. I'd guess and say 76 because thats what the compliance plate says, but the chassis numbers is different to whats stampd on the car, and the datsun id tag, well thats different again!
  4. Instead of shimming the cam towers, cant you put an adjustable cam sprocket on it? I know its more expensive and you might not be able to get one for the L engine, but it would have the same effect wouldnt it.
  5. Theres some good photos of 240z fuel tanks on ebay.com
  6. Dont think you will be able to see anything without dropping the tank completely. I've pulled the tank off my 240z. Could send you a photo so you know what you are dealing with before you attempt it if you like. If you remove the rear internal trim pannel you'll be able to see the vent pipe. It goes through a grommet down to the fuel tank. Its probably perished where it goes on to the tank, if its leaking where you say it is. I had a similar problem with a commodore. It had little hoses all over the top of the tank to let pressure equalise i guess, but they had all split, so if i filled the tank too much it would just leak out. And the petrol guage didnt work, so it was a real pain. I pulled the tank, replaced the hoses, and removed the sender guage, unhooked the anti petrol theft coil that had fallen into the tank and wrapped itself areoung the float. Put it all back together, and no more leaks and the petrol guage was working again.
  7. I have a 260z 2+2 . I'm about to take the Big angle grinder and cut it up into pieces Its rusty as. Big holes in the floor. etc. I only bought it for the front guards and the gearbox. I'll keep the suspension and diif, and put the engine in my 240 untill I rebuild the L24. or find an L28. Going to cut it up into pannels, roof rear guards, sills. Noticed today that the canssis number was different to the compliance plate, and different again to the nissin id plate. Strange how the car has 3 different chassis numbers. Something fishy going on ther i think. Engine number is different too, but thats common enough. chassis numbers shoud match though. I guess thats 3 260z that we can write off as deceased, just from the one car.
  8. Dont know, but there is a member here that had put a rb20 turboe head and turbo on a rb30 bottom end. I cant remember his name, but i think he was an engineering lecturerer at tafe or uni or something similar.
  9. Ok now i'm confused. I've seen that article too, and it does indeed have the bodykit. But I have seen a Genuine numbered scarab article in a car club newsletter and his car didnt have the body kit. From what i understand there were genuine remanufactured scarabs (in factory conversions). But Scarab also sold converion kits to put V8 in 240z too, which probably get called scarabs, but arent really, if you know what I mean. and i've also seen this: its a web page in .mht format. delete everything after the .mht and open it in IE. pic-miragemotorcars.mht.delete.the.rest.of.this.zip
  10. Ok Hows this. An RB20 turbo head will bolt onto a RB30 (skyline or commodore VL) giving you a RB30 turbo. None of this single cam L series 3.1 stroker stuff. RB30DET!! That would haul arse!! Commodore VL engines are common and cheap. Something to consider.
  11. Tip . I either rub the pannels with engine oil or spay a thin coat of clear lacquer over them. Stops them from rusting, and you can see through it so you can still see minor rust spots and stuff that you havent treated yet, so you dont forget about them. It comes off easy enough when its time to prepare, prime and paint.
  12. Hey I got cousins in Toronto. Hobarts at the opposite end of the country to me though.
  13. Tough luck St Stephen. My GF of 4 years walked out on me one day too. And I Play Guitar! Hurt like hell. That was 6 years ago, and I havent trusted one since. Haven't talked to her in as long either and dont really want to. The ones I like dont like me, and the ones that like me are too young. At least I get to stay out in the garage till 3 am and dont have anyone naggin me to come in the house. I agree with the good ones finding you, but trust me, you gotta make some sort of effort. They dont find you all that often. especially if you spend all your time out in the garage.
  14. We don't have 240sx's over here. We havve 180sx's and i expect its the same, since the 240sx is a 180sx with a different engine. Theres another thread that W.A.ZED started. Hes doing the disc brake conversion. He used a maxima backing plate, and tinks the 84 skyline plate could be used also Toyota 4 spot calipers were on the Hilux.
  15. Yes you are wrong. Consider yourself duely corrected. Reasons thats not a scarab kit: Scarabs didnt have kits as such, just a front air damn and rear tail that was glassed into the metal. Definately no flared guards. I've seen that kit referred to as the "California Z" kit
  16. Modify it all you like, but be smart and keep all the original parts to return it back to stock if you want to. Dont modify anything that you cant put back to original. eg, dont cut out the guards and put Z432R flares on it. If you want a hot engine, put your original L24 in storage, and drop in a L28 that you can modify all you like. Swap the suspension, etc, just hang on to the original bits. If you enjoy looking at your Z and thinking wow what a beautiful car, put it in a glass case and never drive it. If you enjoy driving it, up grade the suspension and braking and power and have fun driving it.
  17. Is that Eastern Standard Time with, or without daylight savings, or Western Standard time?
  18. Hi Alan I bought it second hand from a guy that was going to put it on his 260z 2 seater, but his car had been in an accident and the front of the car isn't very well aligned, and he couldnt make it fit propperly. He got it from "the spoiler shop" in perth, but i think they get them from over east. They are pretty common you should be able to find one near you.
  19. Sorry kyteler I think that looks worse. The rear windows dont look like 240z items, more like 240K items, but i guess that happend subconsiously.:classic: How about splicing a '69 2000GTR front on a R34 Skyline. That'll test your photoshop skills.
  20. That will work for the 240K engine, but not for the 240Z engine. The Carbies are different. Pumping the pedal wont do anything.
  21. I dont like the look of those euro style spoilers. Think the front end looks better without them.
  22. Is this the one you mean? Its the BRE Spook style, no vents. Image Link. http://www.classiczcars.com/images/wallpaper/Orange_Z_800x600.jpg I used to have one on my old 240z. It attaches to the apron with screws.
