  1. Yep. but I wouldn't pay $17,000 for one.
  2. I though i saw an ad for GTR front cuts for around AUD$7-8000?
  3. Well actually its US dollars so double the price to get AU dollars ($17200) and still tell me its a good price for a write off.
  4. I guess brembo brakes and 4WD didn't help the driver avoid the sidways slide into the pole. Wouldn't want to have been in the passenger seat when it hit.
  5. A company in NSW, Australia is re-manufacturing MX-5 Miatas. These are called the Bullet Roadster and they have a toyota V8 lexus motor. http://www.fastlane.com.au/Custom_Shed/AEC_Bullet.htm P.S.I've seen a few 240z with supra engines. One in Zoom magazine had a 1 or 2JZ twin turbo, and i've seen one with a 5me turbo.
  6. Its a strip of flat-ish solid rubber about an inch wide that runs along a seam and is clipped to the seam with s shaped metal clips.
  7. You usually end up with water in your oil if you've got head problems, and it goes brown like coffee with milk. The water in the radiator gets an oily sheen on it, but doesn't really go sludgey or milky like the oil, unless its a big failure of the gasket. Just sound like a dirty cooling system. Has it ever been properly flushed? But it you coolant is being forced out the radiator, it sounds like you might have gasket problems. I had a car which kept forcing the coolant out or the radiator into the collecter tank, oil and water were fine, no contamination. But the head gasket had failed between the cylinder and the water jacket, letting compression into the cooling system.
  8. Turn the engine over a few times by hand with a socket on the pulley. I've read a few posts about engines that haven't been run for a long time getting valves stuck and bent by the pistons when they tried to start it. Aparrently its pretty common.
  9. Dont go comparig 240z to 2+2 260z's. A 240z is a beautiful car, the 2+2, on the other hand, looks like a deformed hunchback. Ford owns Jag do they? mazda 323 = Ford laser Holden commodore = toyota lexan toyota camry = Holden Apollo nissan pulsar = holden astra mitsubishi = (no one wanted to team up wih them) blame the government at the time for thier idea to make the car market more competative by forcing car manufacturers to share models.
  10. Funny that, since they were realy just ford lasers with different pannels, and they seem to have a good reputation. apart form weak gearboxes, especially the 4WD turbo laser. I completely destroyed my gearbox and center Differential. I always thought the 90's crappy were (still are) ugly.
  11. Just looking at what options are available. If I go for more horsepower, i'll store the original engine so I can return the car to stock. I plan on frightening the paint off with a can of paint stripper and a brush.
  12. Ok. I know we didn't get 280Z turbos in Australia. What about 280ZX turbos? Did we get any of them? Were they even made? If they were available in Japan, I guess there may be a 3 or 4 somewhere in Perth due to the secondhand imports we got. How different are the engines or are they the same? Could I use a turbo diesel block from a patrol and a petrol head? Did they make turbo diesel patrols? Or should I just put a RB series motor in?
  13. A friend of mine (who's currently working in Japan, has been for a few years now) owns a capri. I looked them up on a capri website recently and something i didn't know was that they were built in australia as well. Only the 3 liter V6 though. Not sure exactly what they meant by built. Probably just assembled. Did the UK get the V6 in the 1st gen capri. I Guess Ford Australia wanted a bit more horsepower to compete with other early 70's 6 cyl cars such as the 240z, torana and charger. For the uninitiated: LJ GTR Torana, Triple Carbies, 3.3 litre (202ci) straight 6. bad points: OHV pushrod valve train, live axle, 4 speed. A 240z would have a hard time keeping up with a GTR torana in the straights.
  14. Nice Avatar Rviper! I used to own a RA28 celica myself. I knew someone with a sss 200b and that was a four door i believe.
  15. Yeah as long as the car was sold with them (or without them, the seat belts in the morris), you can pretty much get away with it. Thats why you can stuff 327 chevs in monaros. But the 240z wasn't sold with fender mirrors, the mirror was on the door, so they can ping you for it.
  16. About the same as you. I've been pulling out the interior so i can take a look at the floor, inside the doors, and inside the back pannels. and fixing little things, like headlight switch, indicator switch. I put a battery hold down strap on it. I plan to strip the paint completely off, and see what lies underneath, but the garage is full of furniture, so I guess it will have to wait. Engine needs new rings.
  17. What year was stamped on the compliance plate? When it comes to non-us cars zhome aint got a clue.
  18. Your wing/guard/fender mounted rear view mirrors aren't legal in WA. Got something to do with being a danger to pedestrians if you run them over. All the second hand jap imports that came over in the 80's had fender mounted mirrors, and they all had to be removed and mounted futher back on the doors before they could be registered.
  19. I posted a direct link to the run promo quicktime movie file so it can be downloaded and saved to you pc. Do a search for "Prague" to find the previous thread, "350Z on car and driver" and you'll find the link. Its about 40meg file i believe. Ah what the hell. I did it myself, heres the link to the file. Use a download manager. http://a400.g.akamai.net/7/400/8182/3de3f3cf/nissannort1.download.akamai.com/8182/nissan/m/v/zdvd/HR_QT.mov
  20. WA Zed. When are you gonna post some pictures of your car? It that it in your avatar? If it is i've some bad news for you.
  21. I heard the aussie 350Z is rated at 217Kw instead of 206Kw.
  22. Old Datsun Advertisments printed on T-shirts. http://search.stores.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&sid=3644782&store=West+Coast+Vintage&colorid=12&fp=0&query=datsun&srchdesc=y
  23. I think the Australian 260z didnt have all the pollution controll gear that the american cars did, as our emission laws weren't as tough. Can anyone with a aussie 260z confirm this. Up to 1972 to only emission requirements were that the engine not be too noisy and not smoke.
