You could shape them with bog, untill they are perfect, then make molds once they are right.

240K Different gill?
I believe that one is off the 4 cylinder C110, but I could be wrong. That grill wasn't fitted to Aussie delivered 240's. Definitely a Factory JDM grill off some model of C110.

ebay FG race grill and front 1/4's
The guy says he's going to make the massive flares as seen on the image cars. Pity he's not making the same front mask as the image cars. Although he's a bit confused, as he's called them GTR flares which we all know they aint.

Sorry Alan. I edited that out of my original post, before you submitted the reply for the following reasons: I don't know the history of Big Sam all too well, and at a cursory glance of the article, it appeared to me that this Big Sam, was a re-boded version of the original. After posting, I read the article a little more, and then was under the impression that the original Big Sam was built from this chassis. Not knowing which one was the case I decided to edit my post and remove the comment, in case it was incorrect. Thanks for the Big Sam background info that the article seems to be (purposely?) ambiguous about. I might have to find the article I have and re-read of it.

Until recently I always wondered why the car was painted a such a horrible paint scheme, until I read in a magazine article that a photographer was coming to to take some photos of the car and the owner wanted to get it painted in a hurry, and so took it to a nearby painters, but the only colour they had enough of was the metallic brown.

I expect the date on the back was added by whoever the press kit was sent to. There is nothing written on the back of the photos of the ones I have. I expect the date was added by some newspaper staff, as part of an internal printing process. Possibly they received their kit, and decided to publish an article on a subsequent Wednesday on page 32, at 82% reduction, but since there is no month or year..... that too is just speculation. Maybe Mal Stevenson would know more

Further to my previous post, some more info in the Australian Press Release Kit. It came in a card folder with a picture of HS30 00004 on the front. It (well the one I have) contained 4 photographs:2 reversed HLS30 images, one photographic paper print of the front and rear diagram suspension, and a photograph of HS30 00004. Photos had printed description detailing features in the photograph. It contained 3, documents. The first one was a 3 page description of the car and its features. Second one was a 4 page listing of technical specifications. The third one was a 3 page list of quotes from US magazine reviews from Car & Driver and Road & Track. Documents are dated September 21 1970 and marked not for release before A.M September 27, 1970. The 240Z went on sale in Australia during October 1970.

Hi Mike. That date (Wednesday Oct 22, 1969) is far too early for the Australian market. That is a photo from the Australian Press Release kit announcing the "new" 240Z, Dated Not for release before A.M. September 27, 1970. Yes they just reversed the photos of the LHD cars for the 2 "Studio" type photographs include in the media release, the photo above and another rear photo with the hatch open (They did a better job of editing the license plate on that photo). Also included in the release kit is one photograph of a RHD 240Z (HS30 00004) on location in Australia (Victoria I believe). All photos are black and white, but HS30 #4 was also red.

Taillight swap?
Yes it has been done. "Toecutter" has done it to his 260Z: http://www.viczcar.com/member-rides/sulios-1974-datsun-260z He said: "the 240 rears are pretty easy to install and the electrical plugs where the same for the 260 74 model. There is some cutting and welding involved though. Once you remove the 260 tail lights you will see what needs to be done it's pretty straight forward. You have to do some cutting and weld a piece in where the 260 reverse light goes"

Missing part help!
No they had an extension on them that allowed them to be torqued up then snap off by design. They are designed to snap off. Its part of the anti theft steering lock mechanism. The steering lock wouldn't be much good if you could just unscrew them with a socket set.
