I do have another question, however it may constitute a different forum...but anyway. The ignition switch on the 240Z, is it possible to recondition this unit, or do we have to rely on second hand parts?. This unit attaches itself to the steering column, and is essentially the device that the key ultimately turns. It is not the ignition "lock" but rather the unit that is affected by turning the key. It appears to be a "sealed" unit. I have sourced a decent second hand part, however when turning the ignition. occassionally the key gets stuck and becomes stiff, resulting in a fair amount of jiggling in order to start the car.

The 1970 - 1972 240Z had 2 levers on the console, throttle lever and Choke lever. Whereas the 1973 240Z simply had the choke lever. My question relates to the choke lever. Did the 1973 240Z choke lever have a different insignia on the lever compared to the earlier models?

Of course each case is different, but as someone mentioned, use a garden hose.. get inside the car, and have someone apply the hose while your in it to determine where the leak is. Before I purchased new seals, I too had leaks in the hatch, these were primarily coming from a poor hatch seal. I purchased a kind of "Seal tape" which is generally used to seal doors and windows in houses from breeze, and make it softer when you close the door. This stuff simply looks like tape that I stuck onto the old hatch seal, and it increased the height of the old rubber so that it provided a tighter fit with the hatch closed down. Of course when you open the hatch you can see the tape on top of the old rubber, so from an aesthetic viewpoint.. it aint prettty, but it works. Nothing worse than havin wet carpet... or havin to head for cover when the heavens open up!

The rubber part you are referring to.... Is that attached to a chrome strip that clips onto the outside door frame? Stops water running into door? If so, I have a 240Z and mine were rock hard, and were scratching the window. It may be possible to replace just the rubber strip, but I ordered a new part from Nissan. Unfortunately you had to purchase the chrome strip as well (came as one piece). From memory it was not cheap, but looks great, and rubber is softer than before.

Axelr8.... Regarding Seats Have a look at my Gallery. I have installed SPARCO seats in my 240Z. They fit with a few mm's to spare, and do not rub or touch the trim of the car. You can use the factory seat runners, but you will have to make up some brackets to attach the seat to the runner. These seats were not cheap... the price is not for the faint hearted.

Plastic trim can be difficult to source.... Dont worry about the colour or if it has cracks in it... these can be fixed. I used Vinyl Dye to colour the plastic trim pieces, it has been on for 6 years and has never scratched off. You will have to use glue or resin to repair and patch up the plastic pieces.
