  1. you can't compare the Mustang with the 350Z, a 20k mustang is a grocery getter at best. The weak V6 only puts out 210 horses and handles like crap while a 28k 350Z has 306 horses and handles great. to even compare you would have to consider the V8 model which starts at 26k and still handles like crap compared to the 350Z you guys really need to look at the 350Z and see what it offers for the money. 306 horses, almost 50/50 weight distribution, great handling, carbon fiber driveshaft, all providing better or close performance to much more expensive cars like the Porsche Boxster, 911, S2000 and others at the time it came out. it is disappointing to see people not appreciate a 350Z for it being a Z and continuing the Z legacy, it gives good performance and features for the price when compared to other cars out
  2. the mustang is different as they made a 19k model as well as up to 35k so you will see the 19k base model everywhere the Challenger, and the Thunderbird previously, as examples only have a 42k model which is why I say it will have a short life span as soon as the baby boomer thirst is quenched
  3. you guys live in the past too much, yes the S30 styling is classic and will always look great, I also think the 300ZX (Z32) model is a timeless design that will look good for many years to come, there is a reason I bought both, but the 350Z is also a nice looking car, it has some faint references to the older Z's but that is what you want in a new modern car, imitating the old models is lame, just look at the new Challenger, Mustang, Camaro... they are all just the old design freshened up a little. when a new model comes out you want it to appeal to the masses not just the old school owners, it is about selling cars not satisfying the nostalgia or you wont see the line survive, the drawback is that there are so many 350Z's out now that you have to modify it to have it stand out a bit which I did with mine, that is my 0.02

well I remembered the camera this time, we had a nice surprise with a Ferrari conversion S30 and also a 280Z, nice to see them come out along with Z31's and Z32's. I didn't take pictures at the show we went to afterwards though, but here are some at the initial spot http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080203.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080204.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080205.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080208.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080209.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080210.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080211.jpg http://www.sfzcc.com/events/2008/meet0802/meet080212.jpg
  5. It has been a while since I read "Z-Car - Revival of a Legend" in which a lot of it is in Mr K's words, but I don't recall him taking credit for the design of the Z, my impression was that he was responsible for the dealership networking and marketing of Datsun and the Z in the US. And he takes more credit in picking the right people to help him rather than taking credit for doing it himself. I am going to have to read it again, it is a short read. Front cover Back cover

I like the wheels I will probably go with those but not sure about the width/offset it just seems that the edge is about .5 inch or so too far out, if the inside doesn't allow a more conservative offset maybe a narrower wheel then. looking forward to seeing it lowered and see how that looks
  7. it is so funny to me when people do that or warn others about it, it is not like we drive around with our tags covered, you are more likely to encounter unsavory characters out on the street than in the forum, and on the street they can just walk up to the car and get the VIN even
  8. looks awesome Ron, can't wait to see her in person
  9. that is funny george, cute kid congrats
  10. the one in Daytona convention was more of a scavenge hunt picking up items or clues at different stops and to avoid speeders they included a time factor where you got points for being closer to the predetermined time run by organizers
  11. well then black
  12. depends on what you are going for, red is classic color for brakes, I did my 300ZX and 350Z in red but I am not sure how a red drum will look in the back black will look nice but wont stand out as much as red but I think it is a better choice for the drum Silver I think is a nice compromise between the two, they will stick out some and the drum wont look too obvious as it would with red I did the 300Z and 350Z with powdercoating, it looks great and it is tougher than paint

am I that predictable? well there are a few people in the SW FL area, we mainly have meets on the SE FL to which we have a hard time getting classic Z's to come out, but we did have a 280Z come here last weekend from Naples for our Karting meet and we had a meet in Estero last month.
  14. ah can't help there mine came out fine

yes, reading the FSM there is an interference fit between the seat and the head

Interesting, good to see no contact with the piston is that part pressed in and just fell off or something broke letting it lose?
  22. westpak replied to westpak's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Thanks, I guess I will start by removing the intake manifold first and see if anything is obvious and then proceed with removing the head but I am leaving it for later I am going to finish the brakes and clutch first before tackling the engine.

ok, I checked the valves again and a couple were slightly off but nothing major. so I did a compression, with these results: 190 200 200 0 200 180 They seem kind of high maybe my gauge is off, but either way that one cylinder I said was not firing has 0 compression, not even a puff of air in the gauge or did it even move the needle at all. So I am guessing headgasket is not an issue, piston rings not an issue, it just seems that maybe one of the scenarios of the valves is it, either something is stuck keeping it from closing or it got bent and it is not closing. But of course I am open to suggestions

I will check the valves again, and also do a compression to see what is up

that is what I am afraid probably happened the car had been sitting for a while, but I would have expected this to have happened sooner, I have had the engine running a few times, and it was smooth and I also long enough to tune the carbs without an issue
