  4. Thanks for the help, how about a late 260?
  5. Hi guys, havent posted in awhile, been busy workin on my Z and school etc etc. Anyways I finally got her painted! Turned out quite well except for the doors. The doors looked great in primer, but once the paint got on them it told the tale, it looks like they were warped when sandblasted. Anyways I did a search and I know 240 doors on a 280 will not work without alot of mod. Anyways my friend has a set of doors off of an early 260, would these work on my 280z, production date is 7/76 for my 280. He said his 260 doors were very heavy, heavier than his 240's doors. Any help would be appreciated.

  7. "Dude, your face would blow off. Plus aeroplanes haven't come with targa tops in years. Vicky" Vicky, when he said the targa top was out, he meant in the Ferrari, not in the airplane. Read it again

Walter, yes you can get a 240 windshield replaced professionally! It cost my friend $100 to get a new windshield and have it put in by a local place.

spend $20 and pay someone to remove it, most businesses that do it are cheap just to pull a windshiled, cost me $40 to get hatch, windshield and quarters pulled.

His story goes like "I bought the car from a friend whose friend's dad's brother's sister's mother in law used to own it. She was real honest and told me she got it from her sister's cousin's aunt's grandma. And they all said the mileage was correct, I promise."

  21. Hey AWC, it went really good actually. I started off with a 150 in my garage and my girl friend actually helped out! Anyways I went over the car in sections, fenders, hood, roof, etc. I eventually worked up to a 300 grit and the body was super smooth. I actually found a local hardware store that sold OSPHO so I bought some there and applied it. For spraying the primer, I used some poles and fabbed up a "spray booth" in my garage with a tarp and some rolls of clear plasitc. I got my uncle to come over and spray the primer because he has messed with cars a little bit, but all and all it went pretty well and I supposed I saved myself atleast a couple hundred bucks.
  22. Thanks 26th, I am going to start tonight. I think I will do it by hand like you suggested and start with a 180 and work my way up to a 400. You are right, the body man told me the sanding was just to smooth the car up. So you suggest applying a vacuum cleaner brush directly about the body and vacuum the dust off? I was thinking about pulling it outside for a sec and blowing it off with an air compressor. Maybe I will try a combo of the 2. Thanks for all the help.
  23. Thanks 26th, I went to the hardward store today to see if they carry OSPHO. They did not carry it but they did have a phosporic acid metal primer, same color as OSPHO, called Jasco I beleive. I think it should do the same thing??? Anyways I am planing on using my 6 inch oribital sander to tackle the sanding, with a 120 grit paper. Before I apply the metal primer acid stuff will I need to clean the car off and remove the dust, etc, caused by sanding? Thanks
  24. Do I sand first, apply OPSHO, then exopy primer OR Do I apply OPSHO, sand, then epoxy?
  25. Me again, before anyone yells at me I will have you know I have searched the forum and found some answers but not all. As you know my car has been sand blasted. I took it to a body shop and the man told me i needed to: 1.Apply an acid etcher, something like the OSPHO product 2.Sand the car with a 120-150 grit paper to remove embedded sand in metal to smooth it out 3.Then apply epoxy primer to seal car Does this seam accurate to you? I may have mixed these steps up so clarification would be nice. And yes the bodyman i spoke with is very good. He demonstrated the sanding on a 1968 Shelby KR500, so he knows his stuff. Thanks! PS-Any suggestions would be nice, and how long would sanding by hand take?
