Hey hows it going. I have a 240z manufactured in 10/71. It has the stock l24 block with an n42 head. Its mostly stock except for dual high flow air filters and no smog equipment. Im planning on installing a centerforce 1 clutch and pressure plate, electronic ignition distributor, msa 6 into 1 header, msa 2.5 inch exhaust and an msa cam. I was considering their stage 3 cam. They say it has a rougher idle and pulls hard from 3000 to 6500. the numbers on it are Grind: 17034. Lift(In/Ex): .460/.460. Duration(In/Ex): 270/280. This seems like a good cam for my situation. Im also planning on running some smaller mods, like a euro single groove crank dampener, since ive removed my power steering... an electric fuel pump and other small power scavengers like that. Any advice or experiences with cams would be appreciated. Thanks... andy

Yep. Good relay. Bad battery. It only tested with half of the cca's it should have. Im thinking using the bad battery killed my starter solenoid. Im gonna buy an optima battery and a new starter monday. Hopefully that should bring an end to all my starting problems for a while......................

Ok then. Im gonna pull out my battery and take it down to the mansker tire center. Have them test it and see if its good. If it is ill go buy a new starter, if not ill buy a new battery and wait on the starter. Thanks for the help, oh by the way, the click was from the relay box not the solenoid..... while im outside im gonna use my voltage tester to make sure its getting power.

definetly the poor dilusional guy that looks at a rusted floor pan and says "well its not so bad". Its funny that you should say that cause ive actually done that with a vw van and a vw squareback. . The z's not that bad, though, i hope............have to wait till i pull up the carpet.....................

Thanks for the advice. Definetly the solenoid. I pop started her and she took right off. Im selling one of my vw engines today so i think im about to put a new in starrter today or tomorrow. Im thinking im gonna go ahead and order that carb sync tool with the money im getting. Yup. Should have her running like a champ in no time, right after i replace the clutch too. . To the average guy this might be a big pain. But not too bad compared to my last car. . Its so nice not to be adjusting valves every 3,000 miles...........

Hey hows it going. I had my z running great yester day. Then it wouldnt start. All i get is a click from the relay under the right side of my dash. I figured my terminals just needed cleaning so i did that. Cleaned both terminals and were the wires hook up to the terminals and the wires themselves. Problem solved. Z started right up. So i turned her off and started her a couple times and all was good. I was thinking this was too good to be true so i tried a third time. Same old click. I let her sit over night and tried her this morning. same thing. My battery isnt the best so i thought it might be that. But after trying to give it a jump i can tell it isnt the case. The last time i tried to start it it started to turn the motor then stopped and clicked. Should i check all the connections at my starter and use copper polish on the wires? Or should i just replace my solenoid. Can i replace the solenoid without buying a new starter? I dont know. Any advice would be appreciated... thanks

Hey thanks for the welcome. ive been out tinkering under the hood of the z. I backed down the slow mixture screws and got it running real nice down low. So the idle adjustment is actually controlling the idle. Not the carb adjustment screws. I noticed right off the bat that i can tell really easily by sound when one carb is set higher. the higher set carb will make a sucking sound before the other one when you blip the throttle. Im already starting to get a feel for the carbs by how the car runs so im sure ill be able to keep her running alright till i pick up a unisync. I cant wait till i get her balanced and tuned right though. Get rid of that unbalanced sound and have that nice smooth sound my buddies z has. She ran good today but im still waiting to hear my six perfecly tuned and balanced, what a beutifull sound. Im new to tuning dual carbs, but at least my baby isnt rudely spitting out black smoke now. plus she idles rock solid. Ill let you guys know how things are coming and ill work on getting some pictures....

Hey hows it going. My names andy. Ive wanted a z car for years. Every morning on my bus ride to junior high i used to see a cherry 240 z parked along the curb on my bus route. The first time I seen it knew i wanted a 240Z. Well Its many years later and now I have finally gotten a z. Its a 240 z manufactured in 10/71. It is in great shape and has very little rust. It has dual su carbs and a later model fuel injection head. It runs, but from my past experience with dual carbs i can tell that the carbs need balancing. It chugs while revving in nuetral and spits out medium amounts of black smoke. This combined with horrible gas milage is telling me it is running way too rich. Im planning on buying an air/fuel ratio gauge and a carb sync tool. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks very much
