  1. I don't know either, but it sure is piling up fast, that's for sure. I could lay it all out and have a yard sale. How much does it all weigh? Don't know, but it would be interesting to see what it all adds up to. Kinda like going to the grocery store and totaling up all the junk food you bought. Yeah, side moldings might help, but you'll still get dings. Besides, I think they're tacky IMO and also I don't plan on making this car a daily grind grocery getter. Yes, your presumption that the dash is cracked is correct. Honestly, I haven't thought much about repairing the dashboard at this point, but I did see some good posts on the forum on this subject. Wait...Oh yeah, I did remove the dashboard cover, didn't I. Way back, a guy at Datsun Sports named Mike Young once told me that the dash cracks show character. I would call it patina, but it could be that or he was just trying to sell me a car. Haha. Just kidding Mike if your reading this. Yep sure, adding more hp always helps, but didn't Colin Chapman say something like...?
  2. hmmm...maybe on a bicycle?
  3. Ok, got the rest of AC and the plumbing out. Ahhh...more legroom. The parts in the corner of my garage are starting to pile up. More removal to follow...
  4. Yep still have 'em. They escaped the garbage bin the first time around, but the other stuff wasn't so lucky. . In the end, I want to put all the stuff in a pile and see what it looks like and how much it weighs.
  5. Thanks, I do feel lucky to have such a car! It's cleaning up very nicely too. Twice pipes have gotten too loud for the neighborhood, so they need to go along with the exhaust manifold...
  6. Been looking at this stuff for a while now. Waste removal begins.
  7. Nice work! I just got my 'Tennis-ball green' recently. Look forward to seeing the finished product!
  8. Removing the grease.
  9. Hello Z community, Picked up this '73 240 Z about a month ago. CA, original paint (112 Lime) low mile example. This is what is looked like when I bought it. The first things I removed were: 1. Sheepskins. 2. Aftermarket CD stereo, speakers and wiring. 3. Chrome mudflaps. 4. Side protective mouldings. 5. Chrome bumper overriders. 6. Dash cover. 7. License plate frames. Should have put in a pile, taken a picture and weigh, but didn't think about it before I trashed most of what's listed here.

Ok, that explains it then. So, I guess I might as well go with a new MSA header in this case, unless somebody has a good stock early exhaust manifold that I can get locally. Thanks for the info!
  11. Both systems are original, so they're pretty old. The nuts and bolts look crusty and corroded especially at the exhaust manifold. I don't think it's backfiring because the snapping is constant. But, I'll try to tighten and see what happens. Maybe its time to replace with a header? Thanks again

OK, sounds good. I'll go ahead and order the parts and replace and hopefully that will solve the problem. I think I'm now on the right track though since my clutch pedal isn't all that firm and the clutch doesn't slip under load. We shall see... Thanks again for the help!
  13. Hello again Z community, Ran the motor today on my recently purchased 73 and I hear loud and snapping sounds around the intake and exhaust manifolds. Sound increases when throttle is opened. The car has a history of running hot in stop and go LA traffic. Questions: 1. Does this kind of sound mean that I have an intake or exhaust leak? 2. If it is an exhaust manifold leak, does it mean that my exhaust manifold is warped and needs to be replaced? Thanks much in advance.

Ok, I did my inspections and found: 1. Clutch fluid reservoir is low. 2. Evidence of fluid leakage at master cylinder in cabin. (see photo) 3. Evidence of fluid leakage at slave cylinder when rubber boot was pulled back. (see photo) 4. Rubber sleeve at flexible line at slave cylinder decayed/broken. (see photo) Question: Given that I have not bled the system (I recently purchased the car), do the findings above require that the clutch master and slave cylinder be replaced along with the flexible line at the slave? Thanks again in advance.

Thanks for the replies. The clutch doesn't slip after the pedal is released completely. I'll check the hydraulics, adjust and report back.

Hello 240Z community, I would like to install a new MSA premium exhaust system (code:15-6302) onto my 73 with stock exhaust manifold. The MSA product description lists "70-72, 74 240Z-260Z (For Stock Manifold)". I called MSA and asked if this system will work with my 73 stock exhaust manifold and they did not know or were not sure. Question: 1. Has anybody installed this MSA system onto their 73 with stock exhaust manifold and does it fit correctly? 2. Aside from the smog fittings, is the 73 stock exhaust manifold identical to the earlier types? 3. When MSA refers to 74 240Z-260Z, does this reference also include the 73 240Z? Thanks much in advance, gtom

Hello 240z community, So I'm thinking that I need to replace my clutch on my approx. 90K mile, '73 S30 Z with stock 4-speed transmission, but I would like to inquire about the problem on the forum first. The problem with the clutch is that: 1. With clutch pedal fully depressed, there is a bit of a problem engaging gears, especially 1st gear at rest. 2. Releasing the clutch pedal, clutch engages early in low pedal position, then as power is applied, clutch begins to slip. 3. Releasing clutch pedal further as it moves to a higher position, clutch re-engages fully. Question: Do I need a new clutch kit installed to remedy this problem or is it simply a matter of adjustment? If it is adjustment, where should I start? Thanks much in advance, gtom
  18. just saw the 918 orange. where did you find this car? Awesome.
  19. I guess the wife let you collect every color? haha BTW, I just picked up a '73 112 lime last week, original paint, very minimal rust...took me a long time to find this one! Keep up the great work!
  20. I Just revisited this thread and read through it again. It's pretty funny looking back at it ! It really wasn't meant to be a serious discussion but I apologize again if anybody was offended. Moving on, I sat down with Mr. Watanabe at Rocky Auto while I was in Japan last year and I really admire the cool and interesting work coming out of his shop. -See, I told you guys that I wasn't 'anti-modification'. Haha
  21. Hey, thanks for the info. I saw your '71 restoration pictures. You guys have some very nice Z's...some of the best I've seen IMO. Your '71 is 920 gold I presume? I had a chance to buy Mike Young's (Datsun Sports) original 920 gold a few years back but I passed it up, unfortunately. Now I'm having a difficult time finding another one similar. May I ask what the exact suspension spec is on your '71? Thanks again! P.S. -So, what is the next project? 918 orange? !
  22. Hi, that is a very nice 112 lime Z. I am looking to buy one just like it. May I ask, what is the exact wheel and tire spec and do you have any rubbing issues? My guess is that you are running Panasport 16x7 offset +6 with 225/50/16 tires. is this correct? -Thanks!
  23. Please see: http://www.rockyauto.co.jp/index.php
  24. I agree, original cars are cool, and cars that are modified carefully can be even more cool. As far as your daily driver car is concerned, it just demonstrates what a great design the car is from the get go, and I would consider this quality/characteristic, a true 'value' that's difficult to quantify in terms of monetary worth. Througout this post, I never took the position that I was anti-modification, but instead wanted to identify 'm-word' modifications, that may destroy the 'value' of an early Z in quantifiable and unquantifiable terms, with hopes of providing some clarity of the subject.
  25. Thanks so much for sending the good news...rock and roll I guess.
