Which engine for a 77’ 280z
For me, a turbo was just something ELSE to break down..... Never have been a fan of them.

Which engine for a 77’ 280z
Good idea Cliff - as we know, even the newest L28's (other than those slated for other use, i.e. forklift, marine use) are now over 35 years - I know I've changed a bunch in my engine - it certainly isn't what came out of the factory, so who knows who did what to an engine that is sitting in the junkyard... especially if it is wrecked - at least you know it "ran when parked" John - I assume they will pull the engine for you? Whatever, if you need an open bed truck to transport it to the barn, let me know. Wayne

Love the z
Well, THAT didn't take too long to go in the gutter.... Cliff, ya know, I love ya like a brother from another mother, but there are SOME things you should keep private, or, only share with you doctor, therapist, rent-a-wife.....

How do you wire up New ign Relay?
@Familyz - a side note about the "@" usage - you actually have to select the user name that pops up... sometimes just typing in a few letters will narrow down your choices... As far as the location map goes - it appears I'm living in a ditch right close to a runway on Oceana Master Jet Base.... I mean, I love the sound of freedom and all, but sheesh.

These pop in every other week or so on one of my searches.... https://row52.com/Vehicle/Index/RNDgnHZiE16jEbJn8HR50jcCU Great grandfather to the D21.... Just looked at the picture of the truck - do we call that one a conehead?

How do you wire up New ign Relay?
@Familyz - your location - wouldn't it have been easier to say "Miami FL" instead of directing to an actual address? This is the internet, and, these pages are public.... As far as your relay, all I can offer is that if you do get a replacement, make sure it is grounded when you turn the key. Don't be holding that sucker in your hand. Don't ask how I know..... Wayne

Datsun 240-260-280z - shipping to Poland or Germany
Yep, also, for those who don't know or tend to forget (like me), anything posted prior to the last server migration (2015????) lost all notifications if they were subscribed to the thread. Just an observation.

That's old car smell..... Otherwise, rip out all of the odor retaining fabrics, wash or replace as needed. Note - fabrics can include but are not limited to: carpet, jute (carpet backing and sound insulation), seat foam...... Personally, I think it add character.... I mean, I've showered for all these years and still can't get rid of the funk that follows me... Wayne- 1976 280Z Restoration Project

There was some recent discussion in an old thread that may or may not help you... But, be-forewarned... splash pan porn. Wayne- Cleaning old parts
I'm not sure of anything like this on your side of the coast, but in the lovely resort town of Virginia Beach, we have been blessed with a DIY Garage. Here it is in February and we had to deal with a high of 70 degrees.... I better shaddup before Mother Nature sends me a jinx.... https://americandiyg.com/adiyg/ PS - The pictures don't do it justice.... This place is AWESOME. For what you are asking to do, $15 / day for use of the shop equipment - compressed air, sandblasting cabinet, parts washer, presses... BTW - NICE SCORE on the 240Z.... Talk about being at the right place at the right time.... Congrats!- restore plastic lense
@qz16 i did mine a few years ago, but took it a step further and used a razor to shave the DOT lettering off mine..... now if I can just find THAT box in my mess..... I should have wrote down the contents on the outside of the box. Never thought of adding a clear coat to it - would like to know how it looks after a year from the Arizona sun as an update. Thanks for the tip.- Barn find 73 in North Alabama
@siteunseen Cliff, look..... It's the right color AND it's in your state.... Go ahead, get another one...- Re keying door locks
+1 here. I got a matching lock set without the door locks (doors were missing in the junkyard donor) and would like to have a full matching lock set as a spare.- history of ownership and service records
@psdenno - Classic Airplane reference... Love it... I gotta agree with you on this - computerized information was used but just not shared (publicly) at the time of the manufacture of our beloved Z's. As an observer. and ONLY an observer, I would like to bring the following up as perhaps a continuing discussion... First, a random snip from the Z Car Microfiche... A few notes of OBSERVANCE... It appears as though the microfiche was produced on a TEMPLATE. An observer may note that the left side has been 'pre-printed', and the drawing, was inserted into a 'field' after the computer generated part numbers / descriptions were generated.. That being said, it appears as though the 'drawing field' was left blank after the microfiche was printed (on paper, prior to scanning/archiving to microfilm) and the parts drawing was drawn by hand by the artists of the day. Reason I say that, is that there doesn't appear to be any evidence of 'mylar sticky back', which would show a 'shadow' in any photocopy. Note that on the left side, the 'master index' BLURRING' vs. the part index CLARITY. Clarity and Blurring are used not as a definite, but more as a relative reference.- wtb 81 82 or 83 maxima diesel
Didn't you just narrow down WHERE to search? Note: the wiring diagrams are more of a schematic, they don't actually show dimensions on WHERE connections are. That said, look at the wiring diagram and compare to what the jumper wire is BYPASSING in order to complete the circuit in order for it to WORK. Good luck.- wtb 81 82 or 83 maxima diesel
Not to be rude, but have you tried public transit? I hope that you carry a fire extinguisher in this car if you really like the car. Maybe I have misunderstood, but 'jumper wires' are a recipe for disaster. Sorry, I have nothing else to add. Perhaps someone else will chime in.- wtb 81 82 or 83 maxima diesel
I'm not a rocket scientist, but if you only shorted an electrical connection, I'm PRETTY sure you don't need a different ENGINE. Maybe you need to search the web for an electrical diagram for your car.- wtb 81 82 or 83 maxima diesel
Well, a few questions come to mind.. Do you search craigslist or similar? How far are you willing to travel to obtain what you want? What is your top dollar limit (to include shipping)? There is a website called searchtempest, https://www.searchtempest.com/ that searches the parameters you specify (generally a xxx mile radius from your zip code - your limit to obtain items) It also has the option to not set a radius, as in nationwide. To be clear, I don't have what you are looking for, but, I hope you are aware, you aren't the ONLY person looking for this engine... Are you fixed on the LD28D or perhaps a 4 cyl diesel/trans may be suitable. I'm just asking - don't read any discouragement - the more information you provide and what you want to accomplish may lead to other members wishing to help.- wtb 81 82 or 83 maxima diesel
Good luck with this search. Other than posting here, do you have any other searches that you preform? I quickly searched http://www.car-part.com/ (their search engine is quirky - Maxima is segregated from Pre-1981 and Post-1982. Strange.) No results for a diesel engine search. Doesn't mean that there isn't one sitting lonely in a yard, somewhere.... https://row52.com/home Row52 can be your friend..... sign up and save a search for 1981-1983 Datsun Maxima..... Make sure you know the correct VIN code for the diesel engine WHEN you get a notification... Five years ago, I would get a (local) alert for a Datsun every 6 months or so.... Now, I expanded it nationwide and it has become SLIM PICKINGS..... Again, good luck with you search.- New batch of Koni Sports

Charles,. It appears to be a 'dealer installed' aftermarket type evap. TO ALL: The evaporator assembly has been gifted.- Pay it forward!!!
I have now learned from others and reviewing my past posts that "A S S ' Y" (without the spaces) gets converted to "arse'y" Thank you forum software for keeping this place 'safe'. I guess it hasn't looked in the 'boobs' thread... My next offering for the "Pay It Forward" thread is shown in the following pictures. In addition to the above offering, I also have a dealer add-on AC unit. What I have in my possession, is pictured below. GIFTED. GONE. NOTHING TO SEE HERE. I have (what appears to me) is a complete evaporator unit from a dealer installed AC unit. The supply and return hoses have been cut, so those would have to be replaced. GIFTED. GONE. NOTHING TO SEE HERE. I also have a center vent distribution piece if you need that. However, after talking to @Captain Obvious, it appears I may have gifted him some parts that he did not want. (Fan unit for 240Z and AC control knob for dealer installed AC unit) Please allow him to respond and perhaps I can get together with him to make a package deal. All items are available separately, however I cannot guarantee that ALL of them will fit in a flat rate box. Shipping will be from 23462, unless CO will ship from his location. As always, first to respond has dibs. Downloads.lnk- 240Z Z Registries (Where To Find) And Post Your Vin As Title
I searched back in the "How Close Are Our VIN's" thread, and found that @rdefabri posted a spreadsheet file on page 7, although I always thought @MikeW created and/or maintained said spreadsheet. My how time flies.... Dang, should have locked in my $0.03/day life insurance back then..... MY spreadsheet file is dated 2/8/2006, so I am guessing that it was from what was posted.... The spreadsheet I have is only 116 entries.. It was actually sad for me to re-visit that thread, so many members I recall that were active back in the day that haven't been heard from since... @Zrush - Barn find 73 in North Alabama
