1973 240Z rear interior
Here's a view of the rear hatch area from the rear view mirror's point of view. I plan to replace the rear interior panel with one of the custom panels with 6 X 9 speaker cutouts & bass port.

Here's a shot of the front of the car. The clouds are reflected on the hood...got a bit of snow after a few weeks of warm weather.

color coat right rear 240Z
I painted the car in my garage. Plastic sheeting was hung from the ceiling to prevent overspray getting onto everything. I have a Craftsman 40 gallon air compressor with a 5 HP motor, and used an HVLP paint gun from Harbor Freight (cost about $50). The paint is PPG Omni AU basecoat/clearcoat.

Carpet: Is it possible?
I bought a carpet from Auto Interior and Upholstery, try this URL: http://www.auto-interior.com/datsun1.html#240Z It was $134 for a five piece set with sewn bound edges, 80/20 loop. The front sections didn't have the snaps like the original carpet, but I was able to remove the snaps from the old carpet and put them on the new set. The new carpet looks excellent and made a huge improvement in the look of my interior. I'll get photos posted in my gallery soon. Kenny P.

240Z with vinyl top
Were the Z cars offered with a vinyl top, or was it a dealer option? I came across a 280Z in a salvage yard with a white vinly top and chrome trim across the rear hatch and on the rear quarters. I was wondering if the chrome pieces would be worth picking up.

Body Panels
Hi Tom, I got a pair of rear quarter patch panels from Tabco (tabcobodyparts.com) for under $60 each. On the invoice they are listed as Rear Wheel Arch, part numbers 16751-L and 16751-R. I don't mind pounding out dents or applying body filler, but I don't know how to weld, so I took my 240Z to a local body shop to install the patch panels. They turned out really nice. See the photo for how the passenger side looked. I finished the rest of the body work and painted the car in my garage with PPG's Omni AU line of paint. A previous owner had the car painted red, and I repainted it with an orange basecoat followed by several layers of clearcoat. I'd never painted a car before, and figured that since I bought the car for $300 I wouldn't be out too much if I messed it up. Fortunately it turned out rather nice! Kenny P.
