Chris, Good advice. Thanks to everyone for responding. I had done a search and there were huge amount of threads but I couldn't find this particular issue. Maybe I didn't go back far enough. Greg

Mine has all the original decals and is in very good shape. The previous owner kept excellent records of every little minute detail that he did to the car and there is no mention of changing air cleaners. I just assumed it was changed due to color. So this may be a dealer replacement or it may have come that way due to parts shortage? As I am thinking of restoring to original concourse condition will this be a factor? The car is in good driver/cruise in type condition and I went to my first outing last week. I had lots of questions on the air cleaner color.

My air cleaner on the my 73 240z is blue. I am assuming it was changed out by the previous owner since I see everyone seems to have Orange. Was the blue from a specific year?

    Stephen, Thank you!! Greg
  5. Matt & Adam, Thanks for your replies. I currently have a front bumper which I think is aftermarket. It has the the earlier brackets but has no hole to mount any ruber to it. It doesn't quite fit right (little to tight to the car) and is actually scraping some paint off my fender. I don't know why the previous owner didn't try some spacers/washers or something so it wouldn't touch the fender. :stupid:I am trying to stay original so I will keep looking. Thanks, Greg

I purchased an automatic shift handle from him that about a 18 mths ago. It was supposed to be NOS. It was not the same one that he had in the Ebay photo that he keeps using every week for over a year now. It was slightly used and had a large crack in the base. He stuffed it into a box that was way to small, so part of it stuck out which he covered with tape. I paid about 5x the actual shipping cost. When I called him on it he said it was perfect when he sent it and that I had to deal with the post office and that he couldn't help me and would not take it back or refund my money. The post office of course refused to do anything when they saw the ridiculous box. He lied about it being NOS & Perfect. Charged crazy shipping charges. Refused to back up his description. Continues to use false photos. I read all the negatives about him but when you want something bad enough you make foolish decisions. I wish Ebay had an easier way to see just the negatives. If you knew that he had over a 150 neutrals and negatives since being on Ebay and could see them in a row it would certainly make a difference to alot of buyers. Unfortunatley they get hidden in his massive amount of sales. He has the shifter handle on again. I swear its at least the 50th time with the same photo. 7. Other than Ebay(no luck so far), anyone know where to find a 73 complete front bumper setup? Are there repros? If so any good? Thanks Greg

What I would really like to do is adapt the manual type knob to it. Give it a more period look without the big T handle which is really badly worn.
  9. Anyone try this automatic shift knob for sale on EBAY? I was thinking of getting it to replace the worn original knob. Just wondering if it really fit all that well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140274408157&viewitem=
  10. I have been following along and I hear a lot of positive comments on the Rebello motors. I see they offer this: The "Purist" 2.7 Z-Car This setup uses your existing 240Z engine so your numbers match. The motor has a big bore, long-rod combination and the E-31 or E-88 cylinder touring style head from your stock 240Z engine. On pump gas this motor produces 240 HP with SU carbs or 270 HP with tripple carbs (as shown). Any ball park idea what something like this would cost? Or are there to many variables with out being specific? I have no engine experience and it's time for a rebuild.
  11. Thanks for the PM . This is where it is. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19578&highlight=matching+numbers
  12. Is the Vin number stamped on the motors for a 73 240z? How about build dates? If they are, where would it be located? Sorry if this has been asked previously!:nervous:
  13. How about if I expand it to include NH and CT?
  14. Can any one recommend a body shop in Ma or RI? I am looking to have my 240z repainted this summer and would prefer a shop that has experience with Z's. Thanks, Greg

Dean, It says a lot for you removing the car from Ebay even though you new you could make a profit. I have bought sold a few cars on Ebay over the years and have found that for the most part people don't outright lie but just omit details that will hurt the price. I have found that using a local club member to inspect a car usually will get you the best description. Sounds like you still got a pretty good deal. Post some photos of your restoration progress if you get a chance. Greg

BillD is correct in regards to the insurance issue. Unless the policy specifically excludes the storage lift or working on your own car on a lift, it would be covered if you have the collision coverage . I have yet to see a policy (25 yrs in the business)with this exclusion (doesn't mean it doesn't exist with someone). Read your policy or contact your agenct to confirm. Carl brings up interesting questions regarding Eagle lifts. When I purchased mine (SS7000) it was the low end one that they carried. I paid around $2000 about 4-5 yrs ago and got them to throw in drip pans & wheels. Over the last year or so the Backyard Buddy has been advertising all those failed lifts out there, which should and is supposed to scare you. I'm not sure of BB's prices now but I would consider them if I was getting a new one. As BillD stated the lifts are easy to adjust. As far as one end catching and the lift coming down crooked it could happen if one of the safety latches catches but it would be extremely hard to miss since they have you in a position not miss it. The Eagle has a handle that you have to push down with one hand while releasing the pressure with another. When you release the safety locks you can clearly see all four release. The way the system is set up makes it very difficult not to be paying attention. The safety release lever is on the front bar that goes across post to post. The release for pressure is on the motor which is mounted to the post so my left hand reaches over and releases the safety and my right hand releases the pressure. I am basically stuck watching the car come down. Bottom line is do your homework and check them out. There was a lot of terrific info posted here. Greg

Rich, The shop was only about 15 min from me in Attleboro,Ma so I was able to go in and see how they were made and check out the demo models in the warehouse. Here is ther web site. http://eagleequip.com/page/EE/CTGY/LI-SS Greg

I have a lift from Eagle Equipment. I had it about four years and haven't had any problems. One of the features that I like (many lifts have it) are the wheels that I can attach so that when it's lowered the post raise a few inches and I can move it in my garage even with a car on it. At one time I turned it sideways and put my GTO on top, the Z underneath and could still use the bay for my other short car (BMW). I only have a 10' ceiling so it just makes it. I put an extention on the garage door rails and raised the opener up between the the joists rather than hanging down. You can see it my gallery. Greg

What years had which covers? For example; what should an original 72 cover look like? Was there a difference for auto vs 4speed transmissions? I really like the polished look but am I correct in assuming that this is not an original look? Thanks, Greg
  20. Carl, Great job on the report of that car. Just what I would hope to get from someone examining a car for me. Greg

Thanks for the info. I was hoping someone knew of a knob that I could just switch without mods. I think I will just look for a new original handle since mine is pretty beat looking.

I was wondering if anyone has used a different automatic shifter handle in a Z other than the standard "T" handle? I'm looking for something that makes it look more like the manual shifter that will interchange without modifications for my 73 Z. I did a search and saw a thread that had Tomohawk using a handle out of a dodge but it didn't give much details. Anyone use anything else? Greg

How many actually go on the car? I'm interested also. Greg

Just a thought on the height of the garage; Mine is 10 feet from the floor to the bottom of the joists and it's just enough for a storage lift. I can put my GTO on top and the Z on the botton or vice versa. (see my gallery) I didn't plan it that way but the height is just enough for my cars. The lifts are not that expensive, gives me a great work area and lets me store another car (cheaper than adding another bay). Just something to think about because you can't do anything about the height later. Greg
