  3. Hope so. I change to this "Aqua Teen Huger Force" avatar just on a lark as I was burned out from the car photo, I had before. Hate to think that I'm stuck with it!
  4. is there a way to remove the black plastic handle off of the hand brake lever? On the roadster, it was glued, and with a twist and a pull, off it came. The Z's handle seems more stubborn. I'd like to take it off to sand out the scratches then hit it on the polishing wheel for the "Oh My!" shine.

  6. Those are sweet, Ben. I got out bid on that last set. Didn't want to commit too deep on them because their offset was questionable. But the are dead on. Since I've started "Shopping", I've seen that they come up from time to time for a reasonable price. I've started to keep my eye on the club4ag.com forums as that seems to be a hot bed of wheels for sale that fit Z's, Roadsters and Bluebirds.

  8. Several different Mikuni PHH series have different throttle stop arrangements for idle speed adjustment. None are cast in the carb assembly, but fastened to the sides with screws and limits the rest point of the throttle arm. If you have none, do you have turn buckle style throttle pull rods? those "can" be used to balance the idle speed of each carb, but it's not ideal as the main rod will twists and not always comes to rest at the same point.
  9. Early 1980's Western brand mesh style? That's my guess. Nice offset on them, good deep dish. Keep them, get them polished and repaint the centers. Lug nuts at any Pepboys. Then, people will say "Nice Wheels!"

  15. Don't pay too much for ole red there mate. What is up with the fender? has the body rotted away soo much that the fender no longer has anything to bolt to on the bottom? I hope not! The goods? I like the American Racing Vectors, fine, very light wheels. Get some more info on the car before you sell yourself. Is it close enough to you where you can inspect it? If you go to see it ALWAYS give yourself the room to WALK AWAY if it's not much of a car. If it's a bargain, (under $1,000?) get it and get some Z expirence. Heck, I'd hate to see you start off with a parts car!
  16. I have them on my daily driver last three years. No worries. Allows me to make a 90 and - almost - maintain the "10 - 2" hand position.

  18. Yes, Service this immediately! The Infamous "5th gear neutral" ends in catastrophic failure as the nut completely backs off and the shaft basically comes apart!
  19. The 4 speed should not be so malaigned. The ratios are very pleasing and complimentary to the engine's powerband and rear ratio. You got to admit, Nissan knows their stuff. The worst thing about the 4 speed - no overdrive The best thing - plenty of cheap spares, as most Z nuts have at least one extra left over from a 5 speed swap! I got 2 for door stops. Yes, we Gringos were short-changed by not getting the sweet shifting FS5C71A in our early Z's like the rest of the world. But, just try to find parts for that box now and you wont feel so bad about it.
  20. This 1965 SPL310 has been beutifully restored and is currently for sale by Mike Young in the Bay Area. $34,000 may seem pricey, until you attempt to do a restoration of this caliber yourself, then, it would appear to be a deal.
  21. It's 4 hours of work. IF (big IF) you can find a lift to do it on, so much the better. Doing on your back is not as plesant. Don't forget to drian the transmission before you drop it, as a slick of 3 quarts of gear oil will make the job even harder.
  22. BTW, I noticed that your in San Diego. If you take your box to Classic Datsun Motorsports, Les will agent the work to a Nissan Transmission specialist that does work you can have complete cofidence in.
  23. Yes, fairly sure. The countershaft bearing sits in the bottom of the case and is usally the first to go. Corrections to my original post FS5W71B (W not C, indicating "Warner" style brass sycros) Nissan offers no "Kit" and building one from Nissan stock would be $$$$.00 . However, they are availible aftermarket at a very resonable price $137.87, part # MRK100600 from Drivetrain.com
  24. You're most likely losing a countershaft bearing. It's not uncommon after 60K miles. Steel in the oil is a good (or bad) indicator. $400.00 or so spent on a refresh (new bearings, seals and as-needed sycros is, in my opinion, money well spent on any transmission your going to use. Most "Real" transmission shops will have no problem navigating a FS5C71B, as there's nothing "new" or "High tech" about them. But, I suggest that, You buy the Nissan kit, and supply it to the mechanic, ensuring that he'll use the right parts.
