  1. Has anyone on our forum installed the rear panel replacement speaker box like the one MSA sells? If so, what do you think about it? My last set was the MTX "RoadThunder" Full range 8'' boxes. They are now owed by the stinking theives who stole the car last January :tapemouth. They sounded excellent really, well, better if I cut the base a point or two. With 8'' cones and mid range horns, they sure could take the power and still sound crisp at higher volumes. Their only draw back is they were so big, and, I never found a way to anchor them down neatly (I used the luggage straps). I toured the audio shop today, and saw a set of Sony "Exploid" 6X9's rated 400 watts peak and 100 watts rms. Can anyone tell me if these, in the MSA box, will give me the same "Led Zep at concert level" enjoyment?

Having just completed a complete dash replacement, I'll tell you if it was worth it after the skin grows back on my hands :classic: I had a half dash cap before. It was ok, if you squinted, It looked perfect. Well, the fit of my new (restored) dash pad is not perfect, you can plainly see it's not a cap. My roadster has a full cap on it's dash. After the big Z dash operation, I don't expect to tackle a dash pad replacement on the roadster any time in the forseeable future. Usually, I'm the guy who encourages other members to get out there and do the job. In this case, my advice will be "do you REALLY want to do THAT chore?". In my life I've installed 4 dash caps, and that installation has it's pitfalls. Even so, It's Way, way easier than the real deal.

Take a car from it's neglected street life, and clean the engine compartment from the outside-in. A clean engine, in a dirty compartment is a waste of time. First a jet spray wash at your local U-wash-it. Drive in, gunk the engine, simple green the firewall, inner fenders, raditor support. I have a collection of brushes, but a toilet brush has been my new best friend. scrub everything you can get to. be sure to wear tough gloves, because during the scrubbing, I often get nuckle cuts (ouch). Jet spray rinse and go home. Now, the detail. Use a liquid cleaner wax. Nothing else have I found that's better at removeing baked-on engine compartment crud. and it leaves a shine! when doing the fenders, firewall and rad support, if you can remove something, do it! take the screws out of the trouble light, Voltage reg, relays and set them aside while you polish the surfaces. then give them a wipe as you put them back on. the cleaner wax also does a bang-up job on the wire harnesses and hoses. Engine paint - Idealy, the block should be painted just befor engine assembly, but you can do a great touch up while it's in the car, fully assembled. just get yourself several cheap foam brushes at the hardware store. Spray the engine color onto a paper plate and apply it to the engine with the foam brushes. Store brought details - MSA's chrome valve cover rocks! New NGK blue ignition wires never hurt to look at.

My car is Lime, and I like it, But, If I could blink my eyes like Geinie, It would be that Original nissan Orange/Red (Persimmons ?) . I can't look deep enough into that color!
  5. I Love going to car shows. I walk from car to car and see passion, comitment drive, love. Walk down a Z car show and look and talk Z. The stories you hear of tracking down the NLA part to make his/her baby Z perfect. The owner of the 1985 300ZX in f'n showroom condition tells me his trials in finding new interior parts, as he is not as lucky as the S30 guys who can get all the parts for their cars. Drive, love. A 1982 S130, doted on, loved money poured all though, is no less a classic Z as my 1972 S30. Do any of you know, how much $$,$$$. it takes to bring a 1998 back to near factory mechanical condition? Oh, My, God! Why would anyone do it? I'll tell you why, Cause they are crazy! The very same Crazy that makes Kats reproduce every little clamp on his vapor tank (that you never see) on his re-patriated HLS30. The Same Crazy we got. Z crazy. Walk a little further down the show line and your in the 350Z section. Crazy people! commenting and every little detial and comparing notes on this install and that mod. The've bought and brand new car and spent god knows how much, making it as perfect in thier eyes as possible. These people are Crazy. What kind of crazy...? We pass beater Z's on the road, driven by people who don't give a dam what kind of car it is. We pass new 350Z's driven by people who would not know a 240Z from a toaster. And then, Some crazy nut, in a (S30, S130, Z31, Z32, Z33 your choice), chases you down to give you a thumbs up, and you can see the care they've put into their own car. Be sure to smile at your brother, He's sick just like you.

I voted for Datto's as well. But I disagree with Alfa's statement, "I thought the idea of a photoshop was to create something vaguely possible". It's the ability to go wild, without choping up a real $30,000 dollar car that makes it awesome. I liked the chopped windshield and headlight scoops. Micah's is too good, thereby eliminates it from my judging. You've got an artists hand.
  7. I like the chopped windscreen. As a matter of fact, how tough would it be to remove the windscreen and replace it with a low persplex bubble?

  11. It's a Window Media Format video, so it will not let you "Save As" the file on your machine. You can only watch it from the page. Of course, I'm no wonk, so someone here may know a way to grab the file off the web.
  12. While your there, click on the Skyline banner and watch the video on that page too.
  13. This came up on the roadster list, and I liked it enough to want to share it with you. This Japanese Co, Virtual Museum is offering a DVD on the Nissan Fairlady line. below is a bable fish translation of the page. I loved the description of the SRL/SR Roadster's racing career' "Good fight inclination with race/lace and the like from SP age, reaching up to SR it grew to a state "in the country there is no enemy which fights". To that much is fast being to be the car which it does." Couldn't have said it better myself! Be sure to play the video on the page, it's a "must watch". Hey Alan, check out the first sentence of the S30 section! Looks like some of the Japanese need re-education. Virtual Museum
  14. Don't forget, when you get your new coil, bridge (remove) the ballast resistor. If your old coil had a double spade connector on one of it's posts, steal that to connect the two sides of the ballast terminals, then tape it up.

Now you have a reason to buy a Carbon Fiber hood
  16. I got in line at 6:00 am and was parked directly in front of the stand, next to Mr. K's (Ms. Jonnies's) car. Too cool! I can't hope to EVER get as good a placement again.
  17. Another busy Datsun Weekend for me - Showing the roaster in Solvang on Saturday, Z car at MSA on Sunday.

Parts are tough. a Timing set for the U20 motor of the SRL 2000, is now going for around $1,500. NOS items are treasures. Don't want to rain on your parade, but owning a roadster is as much, if not more, of an illness as Z ownership. All that being true, I F'n love my 1970 SRL roadster! It looks "cute" but it's deadly quick and growls to scare little children.
